00:00 They want to talk about university education and how President William Ruto has failed
00:07 Kenyans in matters of education.
00:10 The students who did their KCSE exams and are being admitted at different universities
00:17 are around 800,000 students, of which the government's intention is only to sponsor
00:25 45,000 students, which means that over 750,000 students will not be sponsored.
00:34 The lowest cost, that is the social science, is costing around 300,000 Kenya shillings
00:40 per year, which means that a mamamboga in the village, a border rider in the slums,
00:47 a Mdjengo person in any part of this country must part with 300,000 Kenya shillings per
00:55 year.
00:56 In four years, they must part with 1.2 million Kenya shillings to take their children to
01:05 school for their comrades to graduate.
01:09 This is not going to be possible.
01:12 Why?
01:13 Because a mamamboga on an average only gets around 200 shillings per day, or even 100
01:21 shillings, on a good day 200 shillings.
01:24 How long will you accumulate 200 shillings to get 1.2 million if you are doing a social
01:31 science?
01:32 Meanwhile, if you are doing a science subject, a science course like medicine, then you must
01:40 part with 600,000 per year.
01:43 This gives us a total of 3 million if it is going for five years, or 3.6 if it is six
01:50 years.
01:51 And this is not achievable, which means that in short we are killing education in our country.
01:58 William Ruto himself is a product of a university.
02:07 In fact, the other day he even did his PhD and is now called a doctor.
02:13 If you value education that much, why are you destroying the lives of other Kenyans?
02:20 Why are you destroying the education system in Kenya by only providing 45,000 chances
02:27 to the students based on neediness?
02:30 I want to tell you that of the over 800,000 students who did their exams, they are all
02:35 needy because what is the criteria that you will use to select on a needy student?
02:45 Every student who comes from the village is needy.
02:48 Every student who comes from the slums is needy.
02:51 And there are those who are coming whom their parents were able, but some have retired,
02:56 some have been sent away from jobs, some have passed on.
03:00 These are needy cases.
03:04 So this idea of only selecting 45,000 is not viable at all.
03:11 The other day we saw our students rushing to help officers to apply for this scholarship,
03:16 to apply for help, and you saw the system was down.
03:21 And that can clearly tell you that the government is sabotaging the education in our country.
03:28 During elections, you don't hear of the systems being down.
03:33 When education is involved, the systems are down.
03:36 Our students are sent back to Uduma centers.
03:38 At Uduma centers, they are also told that the systems are down, which means there's
03:43 a big problem in our nation.
03:47 And if Ruto himself was a beneficiary of BOOM, during that time there was something called
03:52 BOOM.
03:53 This BOOM was a grant.
03:56 The students were not repaying it in terms of a loan because it wasn't a loan.
04:04 There was no help during that period, but he benefited from it together with Gashagua,
04:10 and that is what has made them who they are today.
04:14 That is what made them steal elections.
04:18 And I can tell you guys clearly that you need to sober up.
04:23 You need to bring these houses in order.
04:26 You must recognize these children, and you must know that it is only education that will
04:30 salvage these students from the bondage of poverty, from the shackles of poverty.
04:36 You have to know that these students are chained by poverty, and you have to salvage them,
04:46 whether you like it or not.
04:48 Furthermore, these students, you advise them that they should join universities and nobody
04:52 should send them away for fees.
04:56 Once they report to various universities, how are they going to be accommodated?
05:02 How are they going to get transport?
05:06 Money to pay as transport from various villages, from various slums to various universities.
05:13 How are they going to buy food?
05:15 How are they going to generally survive in various universities?
05:22 I advise the president to go to the old way of application where every student who was
05:32 called by government in any university was funded by the government.
05:38 It is the role of the government to fund students because there is a day you promised that university
05:43 education will be free.
05:45 Right now education is not free.
05:48 So you are literally killing the education system in this nation and we are not going
05:52 to give you this opportunity just to run over us because we are closer to the future than
05:58 you.
06:00 You only have a few years to leave office but we are still here and we will not allow
06:06 you to destroy this nation under our watch.
