Transcript
00:00 We are able to manage the information about the organization, to give them a brief of
00:07 what is happening within the farm.
00:10 We have grown our trade around this farm.
00:14 So as I started off, the membership is still more, even the qualities are still more.
00:21 My name is Kealo Harsama, the principal secretary in the State Department for Crops.
00:26 We have listened very carefully to the challenges affecting this industry here.
00:34 I have personally listened and heard that one of the problems is the availability of animal feeds.
00:43 I have offered to give this milk dairy society land to farm animal feeds.
00:58 I have already told them that we have land under state corporations, we have land under ADC,
01:05 we have land under CARLA, we have land under Kenya prisons, NYS, which are lying idle.
01:14 And the government has decided to commercialize the use of this land.
01:19 The government has decided to put it to proper use so that we make the best, we get the best out of this land.
01:28 So I have offered them some land where they can grow their pastures, where they can grow their animal feeds,
01:35 so that they minimize cost and maximize profits.
01:40 What we are doing is that we are leasing out all this large mass of land to people who are able to develop.
01:50 Even if we are going to charge people some money, it should be a very minimal amount.
01:55 This is Salome Biako, Principal Secretary Correctional Services.
02:00 We have identified the gap of land.
02:04 We have a lot of land and we will explore possibility of engaging all the other state departments
02:10 so that we can lease out this land to produce hay, to produce sunflower, to produce cotton seed
02:16 for purposes of use by the dairy farmers.
02:19 And we will explore possibility of farmers and especially cooperative societies, including this one,
02:27 leasing out our land, giving us the correct certified seed.
02:32 We are working with the State Department of Crops to see if they can supply us with fertilizer.
02:38 They have already given us undertaking that they will supply us with sufficient fertilizer
02:43 so that in the short range that are coming, we will be able to multiply a lot the production of hay,
02:53 the production of sunflower, the production of cotton seed, so that our dairy farmers can benefit.
02:59 And in this regard of production, we are encouraging the youth.
03:03 We are very concerned that in this dairy society here, only 13% of the persons producing milk are youth.
03:13 We want to encourage you.
03:15 The government and especially the President of the Republic of Kenya is very keen on making production
03:22 of milk and milk-related products commercially viable and a very great income-generating affair.
03:33 So we will encourage you. Come. Come. See all our state departments.
03:37 See where you need help. We are willing to work with you.
03:41 We are willing to put money in your pocket.
03:43 We are willing to assist you in whichever way we can to ensure that you have going concerns
03:49 that last for generations such as these Gidungori dairy farms.
