Today is a highly anticipated and significant day in the academic journey - GCSE results day. Students across the nation have been anticipating this moment for weeks. I'm here at Sutton Coldfield College, speaking to students to see whether they achieved their desired outcome today.
Transcript
00:00 It's been an exciting day here at Sutton Coalfield College and at all of the sites of Birmingham Metropolitan College
00:05 as it's GCSE results day and students are very excited to get their results and to see how they've done.
00:11 The results appear to be in for many students already who came out today in hope of catapulting themselves
00:19 to the next stage of their educational journey.
00:22 So, did they receive the results they were expecting? And what's next for the students here?
00:29 Well, I got a grade 5 in my art which I wasn't really expecting to be fair.
00:35 I honestly thought I was going to fail. I didn't really have much hope to be fair.
00:39 And to be fair it was really all thanks to my teacher really who kind of helped me get through it really
00:45 because I suffer quite a lot with quite a lot of health issues and it was really all thanks to her that I really got through
00:51 and had the confidence to even continue with my GCSE.
00:58 Well, I got a grade 2 for English, a grade 1 for Maths.
01:02 Not exactly what I wanted but at the end of the day I did what I could.
01:08 So, you know, my ambitions are to eventually leave here, become an acting teacher.
01:18 So, yeah, to be honest.
01:22 I got a 4 in English and a 5 in Maths.
01:27 I'm really proud of me because like two years ago I had like 1 and 1.
01:36 Because the GCSE is really hard to do.
01:42 Also with Covid and strikes it's really hard to study and be like focused on what you need to do.
01:50 I only retook English and I got a grade 5. It was a resit.
01:56 At first when I left school I kind of felt embarrassed to retake English but at least I'm safe now.
02:04 I got a grade 5 which is just enough to get such jobs and courses.
02:10 I want to go to college or sixth form.
02:15 I want to get in and do A levels or T levels.
02:21 And I want to do Psychology, Sociology and Law.
02:26 I want to go back to sixth form and do Law, History, English Lit.
02:34 And then it's like an essay thing. You write an essay. I don't know what it's about.
02:42 Today I got a 5.4 in Science and Energy, 4 in Business, 4 in Maths, 7 in History, 6 in English Language, 7 in English Literature and then a 7 in Religious Studies.
02:56 I'm happy with the results I got today and I'm hoping it will bring me closer to being able to do Sports Therapy.
