00:02 - Hello and welcome to Latest TV News.
00:13 My name is Jacob Pannins,
00:14 I'm a reporter for Sussex World,
00:16 and I'm gonna be speaking with sports reporter,
00:18 Frank Elliott, about Brighton's emphatic win over Wolves.
00:21 But first, here are your top stories from across the county.
00:24 (upbeat music)
00:29 Airborne returned to the Sussex Coast over the weekend.
00:32 The free air show was in Eastbourne
00:33 from Thursday until Sunday,
00:35 and one visitor said it was the busiest
00:37 they'd ever seen the event.
00:39 Airborne was celebrating 29 years of air show excellence,
00:42 and flying began at lunchtime,
00:43 while ground displays opened from 10.30 a.m. each day.
00:47 There were ups and downs with some cancellations,
00:50 including the Red Arrows on Thursday
00:52 due to continued technical issues,
00:54 and the Vampire display on Saturday
00:56 because of servicing issues.
00:58 But spectators were treated
00:59 to a surprise edition on Friday.
01:01 Eastbourne Borough Council confirmed
01:03 that the US Air Force KC-135R Strato-Tanker
01:07 would take to the air over the town.

01:14 A large barge has been seen
01:15 by the Royal Sovereign Lighthouse
01:17 off the coast of East Sussex,
01:18 and it's been confirmed that work
01:20 will soon begin to remove it.
01:23 Back in June 2019, it was revealed
01:25 that the Royal Sovereign Lighthouse
01:26 would be decommissioned and removed from the seabed.
01:30 It was reported that the owners of the lighthouse,
01:32 which has stood out as a prominent landmark
01:34 11 kilometers out at sea since 1971,
01:37 took the decision due to the structure's deterioration.
01:41 The lighthouse, which was built
01:42 with a design line for 50 years,
01:44 was officially decommissioned in March last year.
01:46 The structure's duty was to mark
01:49 the Royal Sovereign's shoal to vessels.
01:51 A spokesperson from Trinity House,
01:53 which built the Royal Sovereign Lighthouse,
01:55 said work can commence from this month
01:57 depending on sea conditions,
01:58 and this will include removing the cabin,
02:00 lighthouse tower, and concrete pillar.
02:03 A groundbreaking ceremony has been held
02:05 at Eastbourne District General Hospital
02:07 to mark the start of building works
02:09 for a new elective care hub.
02:11 East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust Chairman, Steve Phoenix,
02:15 and Chief Executive, Jo Chadwick-Bell,
02:17 gathered with colleagues and NHS stakeholders
02:20 for the ceremony on Thursday, August 17th.
02:23 The project is set to deliver a modern, purpose-built
02:25 day surgery, which will include a pre-assessment area,
02:29 four theatres, admission, recovery, and discharge space,
02:33 plus associated support facilities.
02:36 The new unit will increase the amount
02:37 of day surgery activity that takes place across Sussex.
02:40 It will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.,
02:43 and conducting procedures from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.,
02:46 initially for five days a week,
02:47 but this will move up to six days.
02:49 An NHS spokesperson said the hub will offer residents
02:52 from across Sussex the opportunity
02:54 to have their day surgery procedure performed quicker
02:57 and in a purpose-built environment
02:59 that allows extra capacity to address
03:01 both current and future surgical needs.
03:04 The new elective hub is due to open in March 2025.
03:08 Hastings United has new owners.
03:10 Darren Burney and Peter Sherlock
03:12 have sold their shareholding in the club
03:14 with immediate effect and will also stand down as directors.
03:18 The majority shareholding has been purchased
03:20 by a local consortium led by former club captain,
03:23 manager, and current director of football, Dean White.
03:26 The Sussex club is currently in the Ishmian Premier League,
03:30 which is the seventh tier of English football.
03:32 Another petition has been set up in protest
03:34 over a council policy to charge people £30
03:37 to park at Cambusands main car park.
03:40 More than 1,500 people had signed the online petition
03:44 as of Monday, August 21st, as concerns had been raised
03:47 about how this could impact local businesses.
03:50 At the end of March, Rother District Council,
03:52 which runs the car park in Old Lynde Road,
03:55 announced proposals for visitors
03:56 to pay the flat fee of £30 to park for the day,
03:59 discounted to £15 for those arriving after 3 p.m.
04:03 Since the plans were unveiled,
04:05 two online petitions on change.org have been set up,
04:08 the first by Emma Burton
04:09 and the latest one launched by Sharon Blagrove.
04:13 Rother District Council said the rates have been introduced
04:15 as a trial to reduce traffic congestion
04:17 in the centre of the village
04:18 and to cover the increasing costs
04:20 of managing and maintaining services in the area.
04:23 They said the parking charge
04:24 will be monitored throughout the season
04:26 and all feedback will be considered.
04:28 A-level results came out on Thursday, August 17th,
04:31 and to see all the latest on that from across the county,
04:34 please visit Sussex World online.
