Transcript
00:00 We have a talented performer joining us this Wednesday.
00:04 But before he shows us his musical skills, let's talk to him.
00:09 Welcome to RSP Samuel Acestores. Hi, Sam!
00:12 Hi, Sam!
00:13 23 years old, he's from France.
00:16 Wow! When did you come back here?
00:19 September 1st.
00:21 Oh, sorry. September.
00:22 August.
00:23 August 1st.
00:24 You're too fast.
00:25 Just here for vacation.
00:26 You're a dream person.
00:27 You're living in the past.
00:28 Bonjour!
00:29 Bonjour!
00:30 What's "Bonjour, Bonsoir"?
00:32 I don't know.
00:33 Bonjour.
00:34 Bonjour.
00:35 You're a barista.
00:36 But Sam, can you tell us more about your journey in the world of classical guitar?
00:41 How did you start your formal lessons at the age of 9?
00:44 Alright.
00:45 So, my dad is a musician.
00:47 So, the genesis of my career really is under the inspiration of my dad.
00:51 And so I enrolled in Philippine High School for the Arts in Los Baños.
00:57 And then I finished high school in Michigan in the US.
01:03 Okay.
01:04 And then I enrolled in San Francisco.
01:06 I did a year there for college.
01:08 And then now I'm studying in France.
01:10 Okay.
01:11 So, as a soloist and chamber musician in different countries,
01:16 can you share a memorable moment or experience in your performances?
01:21 Oh, okay.
01:22 Actually, one of my most memorable performances is in the Netherlands.
01:29 I was competing.
01:31 And I was very comfortable on stage.
01:34 It was the first time I've ever experienced that comfortable on stage.
01:38 And it was a good experience.
01:41 Okay.
01:42 By the way, Samuel, congratulations on your recent achievement.
01:45 The 2023 Dodge Guitar Foundation Competition.
01:49 How did you prepare yourself for this competition?
01:54 And how did you face the pressure of performing in this kind of setting?
01:59 Right.
02:00 So, it's a lot of performances.
02:03 You have to get used to being performing for people and performing in a competition setting, of course.
02:10 And to do that, of course, you have to keep competing and keep performing
02:14 and just embrace the crowd.
02:17 And yeah, just practice, of course, a lot of practice.
02:21 What did you feel when you debuted in the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2017
02:27 where you performed Concierto de Aranuelz with the Manila Symphony Orchestra?
02:32 Wow.
02:33 So, it's very weird, the instrumentation of the guitar and orchestra, right?
02:37 So, it's a very surreal experience.
02:40 As a soloist also, it's a different experience because usually I only play alone.
02:46 And now it's the first time I've ever played with an orchestra.
02:50 So, the only time I've ever played with an orchestra.
02:52 So, really it was a memorable experience.
02:56 Memorable, yes.
02:57 It's weird at first because you're not used to it.
02:59 But you still have a concert coming up.
03:02 Please invite your RSP.
03:04 And also, please invite them to like your social media accounts.
03:07 Okay.
03:08 So, it's tomorrow at 6.30.
03:13 Okay, so, tomorrow at 6.30 at Alliance Francaise de Mani in Makati.
03:20 And another one is next Tuesday in Juzdado Makapakal Hall in UP, Diliman.
03:25 All right.
03:26 Well, thank you.
