00:00 about competition, not just in your position, but what have you seen the
00:04 whole lot of up front, the competition? What's it like?
00:07 We got a lot of guys working every position. A lot of young guys came in, a lot of new transfers.
00:13 It's competition in all four positions. Everybody has to step up.
00:18 Guys going down, guys getting injured. So, me personally, in my position, having guys injured,
00:23 having to step up, that's been really good for me. I'm ready for those guys to get back,
00:27 so we can have that competition.
00:29 For you, what do you feel like camp's been like for you? How have you made the transition to this scheme?
00:36 Me being an older guy, it's my fifth camp, so I'm pretty used to the grind of it.
00:41 Long days, a lot of meetings, so it hasn't been very difficult adjusting, so I think it's been pretty good.
00:50 Speaking of transition, how have you handled the transition from being in one place,
00:54 more so on the edge, to being in the thick of things in the middle of the line?
00:57 I think it's been well. BW's my athleticism, my get-up, my twitch. That's helped me excel.
01:03 I think certain factors moving me from a three to a four-eye to working on the edge,
01:08 that's helped my versatility. You don't see on the film, it helped me excel.
01:13 Is that something you're comfortable with, or what's that been like in making that transition?
01:18 For me, whatever's best for the team, whatever the coaches see will help us win.
01:22 That's what I'm going to do, so whatever they want me to do, I'll do.
01:26 I think all the coaches are honing in on getting a little bit more aggressiveness out of you.
01:29 I'm sure that actually comes a lot with the defensive line.
01:32 What's it been like getting that extra motivational level?
01:36 Really, I come in motivated every day. I want to get better. I want to win.
01:43 I want to put on a show for these fans, a show for this university, a show for the city.
01:47 That's been really easy for me, just being able to hone in, get better at my technique,
01:51 better my padlock, my punch, my get-off every day. That's really the goals for me.
01:56 Brom's a Louisville guy, you're a Louisville guy.
01:58 What's it like hearing from a head coach like that, that obviously has this connection that he does to the city,
02:02 and you present it with that?
02:04 It's really crazy. Growing up in the city, I've always been a Louisville fan.
02:07 I grew up watching the Broms, watching Teddy Bridgewater, Lamar Jackson.
02:11 It's been really insane being able to have him back in the city,
02:15 seeing the excitement in the city, in the locker room, it's really great.
02:19 There's been a lot said about the depth and the competition on the other side, on the offensive line.
02:23 What are those competitions like between the guys in the Trents?
02:27 It's a battle every day. A lot of new guys, a lot of big frames, 300-pounders, and they're athletic too.
02:34 It's a battle every day between the RB line and the O line.
02:38 How much more fierce has the competition against the O line gotten since the spring when they added those five newcomers?
02:43 It's a lot different. It's intense every day.
02:46 You see a couple of fights every once in a while, but it's football. It happens.
02:50 It's the guys competing.
02:52 I was talking about how Ashton is kind of the leader now.
02:56 What has that been like for you, working with him?
02:58 Where do you see his game growing as far as now with Yaya being gone?
03:03 Ashton's been a great leader. He's really stepped up with Yaya and Nasir being gone.
03:08 I think he's been a great role model for the young guys.
03:11 Me and him, being the older guys on the team now, we really try to step up.
03:15 Not just on the field, but off the field, being on the guys, these guys, adjusting to college has been really good for both of us.
03:21 Ramon, what has your journey been like to this point?
03:25 I know you could go on for quite a while, but think back to when you got that opportunity to come here as a walk-on to now.
03:33 You said you're in your 15th. What's the journey been like for you?
03:36 Coming in, it's like deer in headlights, being an 18-year-old, 235, 240-pound freshman.
03:45 I played linebacker in high school, so being moved to the D-line was like, "Wow, what am I going to do? I'm small. These guys are 300 pounds."
03:53 Just coming in, working every day, grinding, not being down on myself.
03:57 I have a bad practice or have a bad day, and just continuing to work every day has been really what I've been big on.
