KL Rahul, in and out of the Indian cricket team, timed his fifth ODI century to perfection as India looked to clinch the three-match series at the Maharashtra Cricket Association ground in Pune on Friday (March 26). Rahul has batted in all positions but has failed to cement his slot with several options available to skipper Virat Kohli. But Rahul anchored the Indian innings to perfection as India score 300-plus for the second straight ODI match against England. (Video and photos: BCCI)

00:00 Now, Kail, not too long ago, you were the wicketkeeper and then you were opening in
00:14 T20s and batting in the middle order and the 1A in the national.
00:17 Now, from the previous series, now Rishabh has taken back the gloves in the T20s and
00:23 then you're of course batting in the middle order.
00:26 And now also, Skipper, Virat said that you would like to open in the T20s.
00:31 When so much changed around, how does it affect you, like, from being right at the top and
00:38 having the gloves and then now Rishabh coming back, taking the gloves in the shortest format,
00:42 how does it really affect you, Kail?
00:45 Look, when you're part of this Indian team, you always know that the competition is going
00:50 to be really, really high and you can never sit back and feel comfortable and feel like
00:58 you own your position.
01:00 You'll always be challenged and that's the good thing about, I mean, that's how our country
01:08 is.
01:09 It's not short of talent and there will be players coming in and knocking on the door
01:13 all the time.
01:14 So, as a player in the team, you always try to push yourself and keep training harder
01:20 and keep working on your game and try to get better and better every time.
01:24 And whenever the opportunity comes, you try to grab it with both hands and you try to
01:30 keep doing that in every series.
01:33 For a player to come this far, it's only his self-belief that gets him so far.
01:39 So, I've always been confident in who I am as a player, who I am as a person.
01:45 So, it was never an issue of confidence.
01:47 It was never an issue of self-belief, like I said.
01:52 Sometimes it's sport.
01:53 You try everything you can, you do everything that is possible and in your control and it
01:57 still doesn't go your way.
01:59 So you accept it and you try and learn from the mistakes you've done or try and learn
02:04 from the hard days and get back stronger.
02:07 So, yeah, I was always confident.
02:11 I knew that in the nets and at training and at practice sessions, I was batting well.
02:15 If there was a real issue with my batting, then I would have probably been a little under-confident.
02:22 But yes, scoring runs is important and it is everything for a player.
02:27 But for me, I also look at myself at training and if I'm preparing well, if I'm hitting
02:35 the ball well, if my mind is in the right place.
02:38 So, most of the things were right.
02:39 The only thing that wasn't working or going well for me was the numbers chart, me getting
02:47 runs, which is disappointing at the top of the order.
02:50 Like when I opened the batting, the team looks up to the openers to give them a solid start
02:55 and get runs.
02:56 So, it was a little disappointing, but it never affected my confidence or belief in
03:00 myself.
