00:00 >> What's it been like and you got competitive there today, is that fun for
00:04 you guys?
00:05 >> Yeah, I feel like it's fun for us, definitely takes time away from practice,
00:09 but competitive is part of football.
00:11 So the fact that we're getting after something means that guys are hustling,
00:14 guys are really into it in the practice.
00:16 And we're just getting after it, trying to work.
00:18 >> With this change of schemes, how would you define what your role is with this
00:21 defense?
00:21 >> With the change of schemes, my role is to really be,
00:28 kinda play more man, like how you used to do in high school and stuff.
00:32 At the same time, too, disguise it up, switch it up, do a lot of different things.
00:36 With this defense, I'll say it's more a pro style than last year.
00:40 >> How has your transition to that star position gone over this offseason?
00:43 >> What'd you say, one more time?
00:44 >> How has your transition to the position in this defense that you play,
00:47 how's that gone?
00:49 >> It's the same position I played last year, kinda the same thing,
00:51 still in the slot.
00:52 But the transition of it is just learning, being acceptable to the coaching,
00:57 buying into what they're teaching me, so that's been the biggest thing so far.
01:01 >> How much have you just enjoyed building this relationship with not only
01:05 the players, but just the staff, with this new scheme and
01:08 the stuff they're coming for the students?
01:10 >> Repeat that one more time?
01:12 >> Just what has that relationship been like, just building,
01:14 just getting to know each other and learning this?
01:16 Just what has that been like throughout camp?
01:18 >> It's been fun.
01:19 Started off in January and everything with the coaching staff changing and
01:22 all that stuff, so it's been fun for me.
01:24 Buying into Coach Engle's teaching, listening to Brown and everything.
01:27 So the fact that I got the head coach and my D coordinator teaching things at
01:31 the same time, they're all on the same page, that's been the funnest thing for me.
01:35 >> I think I'm surprised at all how involved Coach Brown seems to be on
01:39 the defensive side.
01:40 >> It definitely surprised me, but all the stuff I've heard about him is true.
01:45 He's a real coach, he's in tune with it, so it's offense and defense.
01:50 It doesn't matter if you're a walker or a second team, first team started,
01:53 you're gonna coach him like you'll start on day one.
01:55 >> With him being a former quarterback, does he kind of offer a unique perspective
01:59 on, hey, this is what a quarterback is in certain situations when it comes to where
02:03 you guys should be?
02:04 >> I think the fact that not only is he a quarterback, but
02:07 he's a quarterback that played at the highest level and played in Canada too.
02:12 I think the fact that he got that perspective and that knowledge and
02:15 stuff, it makes me more receptive to his teaching.
02:18 And yeah, like I say, he does offer a different perspective of it.
02:22 >> So when you guys leave polder, some of you guys are older,
02:26 how has that meshed in?
02:27 How does it mix all you guys together?
02:29 >> I think the coaches really emphasize it doesn't matter if you're a first day guy.
02:33 >> If you move to the job, you're gonna replace him.
02:35 >> I'm back.
02:36 >> [LAUGH] >> Replace him.
02:38 >> Just so everybody knows, Broncos, you're replacing him.
02:40 >> [LAUGH] >> What's it like to match all of you guys?
02:45 >> Like I was saying, the coaches really emphasize it doesn't matter if you're
02:48 a day one guy or a four year guy.
02:51 We're all pushing each other, we're all buying into the coaching,
02:54 we're all buying into the teaching and all that stuff.
02:57 So it hasn't really been an issue at all.
03:00 >> How do you think that this system helps the secondary out for you guys?
03:04 That's something Coach Ellis mentioned that he thought corners thrive and
03:07 Josh also mentioned that he thinks it helps too.
03:09 >> Well, this is a very unique system.
03:11 So the fact that we're seeing all different types of offices,
03:14 instead of one scheme at a time, I think we're gonna be prepared for the best.
03:17 >> All right.
03:19 (laughter)
