Voi Tunuufi talked about his move to edge rusher for the Huskies.
Transcript
00:00 >> So tell me, I mean, you've done a little of everything since you've been here.
00:03 You can be aggressive enough, probably be a cornerback if you wanted.
00:07 How's it been going out to the edge?
00:08 They need you because graduation and
00:13 I know Durfee's got a situation that's gotta be worked out.
00:17 But what about you?
00:18 >> I mean, first off, I just love it out there.
00:20 I thank the coaching staff every day for letting me be able to just do what I want
00:24 and be able to play outside and stuff.
00:26 So, I mean, it's been a blessing.
00:28 It's been so much fun.
00:29 I mean, I feel that's why I played in high school.
00:32 So I feel way more comfortable out there, yeah.
00:34 >> Yeah, I know you went like 70 yards with a fumble.
00:36 So you had to be on the edge to do that, I think.
00:38 >> Yeah, right?
00:39 >> Yeah. >> Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:39 >> So what's been the biggest thing for you at this level to be an edge rusher?
00:43 >> Sorry, can you run that back?
00:44 >> At this level, you did it in high school, but you're a little undersized,
00:47 a little underweight, I think.
00:49 But still really aggressive.
00:50 What's been the big thing for you to just make it work?
00:53 >> I mean, my speed, really.
00:54 Like just getting off the ball, just my effort after plays, after sacks and
00:58 stuff, trying to get back to the ball whenever it is, trying to get to the ball.
01:02 I mean, I think that's what puts me up there, I guess, if that makes sense.
01:06 >> I was trying to get a photo of you while you were doing some of the drills.
01:09 >> Yeah.
01:10 >> You had the longest towel I've seen this guy wear out here.
01:12 >> [LAUGH] >> And
01:14 then it disappeared once you got into the defensive sets.
01:17 But tell me about that.
01:18 I mean, was that customized or something?
01:20 >> Yeah, no, no, I just had it for my visor, cuz I'd be getting way too sweaty.
01:24 So I need it being long enough to get in my helmet, you know?
01:28 >> Yeah. >> So I can wipe it off,
01:29 wipe it down.
01:29 But I dropped out of play where it got in the way, and so
01:33 my coach kinda pulled it off.
01:35 >> Yeah, I was waiting for that to happen.
01:36 >> Yeah, I was like, yeah.
01:37 >> So none of you guys really looked up when all these Blue Angels started buzzing
01:40 the place.
01:41 >> Yeah. >> But I know you knew they were here.
01:42 >> Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:43 >> You just too concentrated, too focused to look at, stand and stop and
01:47 look at that stuff?
01:48 >> I mean, yeah, it's definitely a sight, but
01:50 what we got going on is right here on the ground, you feel me?
01:52 Like right on this 100 yard field right here that we got.
01:55 So I mean, props to them.
01:58 >> You understood what was going on with them.
02:00 I mean, who made the first move on that when you decided to kinda make a switch?
02:03 >> Well, when I first, when I was a D tackle, I just had a long talk with my
02:07 coach, and he just told me, man, if you wanted a shot at the next level,
02:11 I think outside is the best opportunity for you.
02:14 Use your speed, and he just told me stuff like that.
02:16 So I mean, off of his faith on me, I just trusted him.
02:21 And to be honest, I love it.
02:24 When he first, sorry, when he first offered me to go outside,
02:29 I was kinda excited.
02:30 I was like, man, that's why I didn't high school.
02:31 >> Was it Coach Brechterfield?
02:32 >> Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:33 >> Okay. >> Yeah, yeah.
02:34 And he just told me, he's like, man, if you wanna get to the next level,
02:37 we just had a one on one talk.
02:39 He just told me that my chances are better outside than they are inside.
02:43 >> And he probably told you that's what he did when he's at Oregon State.
02:46 >> Yep, exactly.
02:47 He said, man, I went through the same thing.
02:49 I can relate to him a lot.
02:50 Coach Brechterfield is a crazy, awesome coach.
02:53 He's a crazy, awesome coach, someone I could bounce off to,
02:55 especially him being where he was and all the accolades that he got when he was
03:00 in college.
03:00 So he's definitely a role model that I have in my game right now.
