00:00 the first couple days in mid-line?
00:02 Honestly, the first two days have been great, been solid.
00:05 You know, first day we came out,
00:07 didn't get a lot of takeaways today.
00:10 Like you see, we had about seven takeaways.
00:12 So, you know, we progressing.
00:14 We getting better and better day by day.
00:16 So, so far, so good.
00:18 So, on the new faces, how do you feel like everybody
00:20 on the defense has kind of gelled in the offseason?
00:23 I think everybody, we getting along with just
00:26 learning the defense and just playing together,
00:28 you know, as a team, as a defense, as a bond.
00:31 So, right now, I think we just all still,
00:33 they still trying to figure it out piece by piece.
00:35 But as of right now, man,
00:37 I feel like we in a good start right now.
00:39 We in a good space.
00:41 You know, everybody is starting to come along.
00:43 So, I think we'll have a great year this season.
00:47 As you talk about the turnovers
00:49 you guys were able to take away,
00:50 does that kind of give us an hint
00:51 at what we can expect from the secondary edition?
00:54 Yes, sir. Yes, sir.
00:55 I feel like we could be one of the top secondaries this year.
00:59 All we got to do is keep executing, man,
01:00 and just be consistent with going, you know,
01:03 just putting the time in day in, day out, man.
01:06 As we keep doing that, we'll keep progressing.
01:08 So, just keep executing, man.
01:10 That's all it takes is just really being consistent with it.
01:13 It's only been a couple days of fall camp,
01:14 but how have those post-spring newcomers
01:16 in the secondary looked, like Storm, Camron, all those guys?
01:20 Those guys look great, man.
01:22 You know, we still got a little few mistakes
01:25 and a few errors that we missing,
01:27 but that's everybody in general.
01:29 But so far, those guys, they look good.
01:31 Like, they've been here already,
01:33 and we just look good as a whole, man.
01:37 You got a guy that obviously came from another ACC school,
01:39 but for, like, Storm and Camron, how big is that
01:42 for them to have that ACC experience coming in here?
01:44 I think it's big, you know.
01:46 A lot of people, they take the ACC for granted.
01:49 You know, I feel like it's the number one conference
01:52 when it comes to just competition, you know.
01:54 So to have that experience already,
01:56 I feel like it's going to be big
01:58 and also great heading into a season
02:00 where we already know our opponents and our rivalry game,
02:03 so we already know how that's going to go
02:06 and how we got to execute and how those weeks are going to go.
02:10 What's he was a guy that got involved
02:12 with a couple turnovers today?
02:13 What impressed you about him the most?
02:15 I feel like, you know, that's my guy, man.
02:17 I feel like he's been getting better this year,
02:19 you know, way better from last year.
02:21 You know, he's more confident.
02:23 He believes in his technique more,
02:25 and with him just throwing out, man,
02:27 he's going to be a great football player, you know.
02:29 If he's going to have a big breakout season this year,
02:32 you know, it's trying to make it his last year.
02:34 Hopefully it could be his last year,
02:36 but he's been looking real good since spring camp.
02:40 What's your role on this team and have you become more?
02:45 Honestly, my role, man, is just be the best player
02:49 I can be for this team for us
02:50 to put us in the winning position.
02:53 Yeah, I'm a leader. We all know that.
02:54 But, you know, I don't try to take it like that.
02:58 You know, I just try to be the brother
03:00 that could just lead everybody, man, just lead by example,
03:02 make sure everybody on the right path.
03:05 That's really my role, man.
03:06 Basically, I just work on being consistent.
03:08 I know if I be consistent, nobody could beat me on my game.
03:12 And I know if I'm consistent,
03:13 I'm going to be the best player that this team needs.
03:17 You were 12 last year, right?
03:19 Yes, sir.
03:20 Any significance to the change, to the number change?
03:22 Nah.
03:23 You know, my whole life,
03:25 I really never moved double digits for real.
03:27 So, you know, I had to go back and sing.
03:30 What is Coach Ellis --
03:32 You know, you have Coach Ellis back here,
03:34 but Coach English is the same.
03:35 You know, they're both kind of yelling
03:37 at everybody back in there.
03:38 What's that kind of a mix like?
03:39 What's Coach Ellis been like?
03:41 I think -- I actually think we need all that together.
03:44 You know, it just shows that they really care for the game
03:47 and they love for the game.
03:48 And, you know, with those two, they're so energetic,
03:51 and that brings a lot to the room.
03:53 You know, that just makes you want to go out there
03:54 and play for those guys
03:56 and put on for this Louisville that's on your jersey.
04:00 But just having Coach Ellis, man, you know, I love him.
04:03 He's a great guy.
04:04 You know, he holds me accountable on everything,
04:07 makes sure I'm on top of everything,
04:08 and just makes sure that I'm leading by example
04:11 and that I'm getting ready for the next level.
04:13 Looking on the other side of the ball,
04:15 what's it like going against Jamari Thrash?
04:17 What's that like for him?
04:19 I love Jamari, man.
04:20 You know, he works day in and day out.
04:23 As you can see, we go at it every day, man,
04:25 but that's just arm-sharpening arm.
04:27 And like I say, man, he's a tough guy in college football,
04:32 so just to have him on the other side of me
04:34 and going against him,
04:35 knowing that I'm getting great work is unbelievable.
04:37 And I just thank him for challenging me
04:40 and I'll keep challenging him, too.
04:42 You guys opened the season on national television,
04:44 played in the Falcons' house, your ACC opponent.
04:47 How much is that driving how much you guys are working?
04:50 Oh, man, it's a big thing, you know.
04:53 I really think that's going to start us off
04:56 to just building that confidence
04:58 and knowing that we can make it to the ACC championship.
05:01 So, you know, I think we all looking forward
05:03 to playing in that stadium
05:04 and, you know, just making a big performance
05:08 in front of the whole everybody,
05:10 'cause I'm not mistaken,
05:12 I think we're the only game that's going to be on that day.
05:14 So just showing this college football
05:18 that we ready, man, we prepared,
05:20 showed them all the work that we've been putting on
05:22 off campus and just on and off the field.
05:24 Jarvis, what's the biggest difference you noticed
05:26 with this defense compared to the past couple of years
05:30 in terms of the system you guys are running?
05:32 Honestly, I feel like it's kind of the same,
05:35 but it's just the energy, man,
05:37 and everybody really buying in,
05:40 you know, really putting that time
05:41 and that extra time off the field.
05:43 I feel like this group, we really want it.
05:46 Like, it shows, you know, everybody,
05:48 they on the same page, we all locked in
05:50 and focused on one main goal,
05:52 and that's to beat Georgia Tech.
05:55 All right, thank you.
