Transcript
00:00 I'm Wendy Redman, I am the venue manager for Gosport Museum and Art Gallery.
00:05 Tell me what we're doing here today.
00:07 We are having a really exciting time this summer because we have Paul and Remy Hogarth over
00:12 and they are creating a giant sand sculpture in our gallery.
00:17 So what can people expect down here?
00:19 People can come in and see the artists at work until next Wednesday
00:23 and then after that time they'll be able to come in until September 16th and have a look at the sculpture.
00:28 They can also have a go at creating their own sculpture.
00:32 We've got some giant sand pits so people can use our tools and have a go at creating what they think Gosport means to them in sand.
00:38 They can have a go at writing a postcard.
00:40 We have some masterclasses on today and over the next four weeks young people can sign up to come to sand school
00:49 and get their Arts Award Discover from having a go at doing activities and finding out more about the sand sculpture artists.
00:57 Tell me what the reaction has been like so far.
00:59 People have come in and been totally amazed.
01:01 They're saying they're not quite sure what to expect and maybe a small pile of sand or some small little sand castles around
01:08 but they are amazed by the actual size of the sculpture and how they can actually recognise the features in Gosport,
01:16 the landscape of Gosport really well, particularly things like the submarine tower stand out.
01:21 Hi, my name's Paul Hogarth. I'm from Yorkshire.
01:25 And I'm Remy Hogarth from the Netherlands.
01:28 Tell me where we are and what we're doing here today.
01:32 Well, we're here at the Gosport Museum and Art Gallery and today we're continuing our nine day sand sculpture exhibition.
01:40 Inside we've got a 21 tonne sand sculpture and it's all about the history and local lore of Gosport.
01:48 And right here we had one tonne of sand left over so we decided, everybody's talking about this cat Tilly,
01:56 so I decided to make a sculpture of Tilly the cat and what a phenomenon it turned out to be.
02:03 Tilly herself made an appearance an hour ago, didn't damage the sculpture, just tried to have a little sleep on it.
02:10 So yeah, it's all good. We're having a great time.
02:13 And you can come down and you can see us in action in the museum and you can bring your children and we're also doing workshops.
02:19 So it's all sand fun here at Gosport Museum.
02:22 So tell me why Gosport and why you wanted to come here.
02:25 Well, Gosport, I first came to Gosport in 1996 and I made a 20 tonne sculpture of a mermaid in sand and they liked it so much.
02:34 And then they had us back in 2013 where we presented the history of Gosport and its maritime history.
02:44 We made a 25 tonne sculpture back in 2013 and that was so popular they've had us back again now.
02:51 We'll do some more history of Gosport and some local landmarks this time.
