Issues concerning the Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link Expressway should be debated in the Selangor legislative assembly and put to a vote by elected representatives, said Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman during a walkabout with two Muda candidates for Bandar Utama and Bukit Gasing in Petaling Jaya on Friday (July 28).

00:00 [indistinct chatter]
00:06 So just now we had a meeting, in a series of meetings,
00:09 I think they've met up with the representatives quite a number of times.
00:11 They've met up with community leaders, representatives against the PJD link.
00:16 We heard their views, I think their views are correct, are cogent,
00:21 and they are concerns in which must immediately be addressed.
00:25 I mean if really this is a good development project,
00:28 which could deal with traffic congestion,
00:30 then why is there a need to hide behind the wall of secrecy?
00:33 So I think three very important things to note here.
00:36 One, the government must declassify the report immediately,
00:39 do not hide behind the wall of secrecy.
00:42 Secondarily, I think this issue should be put to a vote in Dewan Undangan Negeri
00:46 to ensure that people's voices are heard, and not just political appointees.
00:50 Because the current process is,
00:51 early majlis which are political appointees will deliberate,
00:54 and goes to Majlis Tindakan Ekonomi or the Exco,
00:58 which again are political appointees,
01:00 and then decided together with the consent of the Menteri Besar.
01:04 We don't think that's a good enough process, it must be put to a vote.
01:07 And the final part behind it, again, when you object KDEX,
01:11 why agree to this now?
01:12 And above and beyond that, especially agreeing when there's a lack of an informed choice
01:16 for the neighbourhoods here to make.
01:18 What difference would it look like to you, since Dewan Undangan Negeri?
01:24 In terms of accountability?
01:27 You'll see MUDA becoming the people's voice of conscience,
01:31 case in point on the PJ Dilling issue.
01:34 You'll see MUDA raising up all the salient points,
01:36 why you're still hiding behind the OSA,
01:38 despite now you're in control of federal and state governments.
01:40 What is the fast track process which is being done,
01:44 why is this dilly-dally, are we going to do it, are we not?
01:46 Or if it's the same like KDEX, we're not going to do it,
01:49 but again, if you look at the proposal,
01:53 it's 90% like KDEX, both of them are very passionate about issues of the green economy,
01:59 and being climate conscious.
02:00 I mean, if you look at the ratio of population and buses in Singapore,
02:05 and compare it to Greater Kelang Valley, we are so, so far behind.
02:09 The reason why we keep on talking about building highways
02:12 is because there's a lack of a political will to talk about improving the state of public transportation,
02:17 not just the big MRTs and RRTs, basic bus networks,
02:20 which in Greater Kelang Valley, despite having 9 million population,
02:23 almost double the population of Singapore,
02:25 we don't even have 30% of the buses in Singapore.
02:28 So these are things which we need to seriously look at,
02:31 instead of an easy way out, we want to focus on solutions,
02:34 we want to focus on being the voice of conscience for the people of Selangor.
