In this powerful motivational speech, Angad Singh Padda shares how a remote Indian village, in the middle of nowhere, has the ability to solve all the world's problems through generosity, real love, and doing more. "They say that dreams are not the ones that you have when you go to bed. Hell no! Dreams are the ones that don't let you go to bed"

00:00 Think about that one problem that matters the most to you.
00:05 That one issue you really need to resolve
00:08 to make this world a better place.
00:11 Now open your eyes.
00:12 That right there, that right there
00:16 is the core of my speech today.
00:19 When I first came to the US,
00:21 my only objective was to become successful,
00:24 live the American dream.
00:26 So one day I could use that success
00:29 to go back to my home state and fix the drug problem.
00:33 When I was growing up,
00:35 I lost two of my best friends to drug abuse.
00:39 I did.
00:41 So that's a problem that I gotta fix, right?
00:44 But when I met every single one of you right here,
00:47 I learned about the problems that you all care about.
00:50 For example, whenever there's a kid in Oakland
00:54 who can't afford school, that's a problem.
00:58 Whenever climate change wipes out a species,
01:02 that's a problem.
01:02 Whenever a Muslim woman gets bullied because of her hijab
01:08 or a Jewish man because of his yarmulke
01:12 or a Sikh man because of his turban,
01:15 that is a problem.
01:17 So why am I talking about this?
01:20 Why?
01:21 All of us, we all care about prosperity for everyone
01:26 to go beyond ourselves to make this world a better place.
01:30 We want to unify this world.
01:32 That is who we are.
01:33 Many people are probably wondering, that's fine,
01:36 but that's also nonsense.
01:39 That's so impractical because unifying the world
01:41 has never been done before.
01:42 What are you talking about?
01:44 There is no place in this world, some will say,
01:47 where people have been unified like that.
01:49 What if I said that there was?
01:51 What if I said that there was a place like that
01:54 where people are one?
01:56 There's a village in India, I'm not kidding,
01:58 called Shani Singapore, and in that village,
02:01 not a single house has a door.
02:05 And that's because the villagers firmly believe
02:07 that there is no need for borders or barriers
02:10 or discrimination.
02:12 They're all one.
02:14 And that is why in that village,
02:16 there has never been a theft or a robbery
02:18 or a single incident of violence.
02:20 So Climate 2017, I ask all of you,
02:25 what if all of us can use our education
02:28 to create a world just like that village?
02:31 They say that dreams are not the ones
02:35 that you have when you go to bed.
02:38 Hell no, dreams are the ones that don't let you go to bed,
02:42 like the one that Martin Luther King had.
02:45 That was a dream.
02:46 That was a dream.
02:48 The same way I know that everybody over here,
02:53 we also have a dream.
02:56 Our dream is to create a world where we are all one.
03:00 I'm not gonna say let's go out there
03:02 and earn the most profit.
03:03 I'm gonna say let's go out there
03:06 and earn prosperity for everyone.
03:08 I am not gonna say let's go out there
03:11 and just earn the six figures.
03:13 I'm gonna say let's take away
03:14 six of the world's biggest problems.
03:17 I'm not gonna say let's just enter the Forbes 40 under 40.
03:22 I'm gonna say let's unify this world with 42.
03:26 That is our identity.
03:28 That is who we are.
03:29 In the beginning of my speech today,
03:32 every single person over here,
03:34 from right there to right there,
03:36 you all thought about that one problem
03:38 that mattered the most to you, right?
03:40 Now is the time to go out there
03:44 and fix all of these problems, every single one of them.
03:48 And so here's my last sentence, my last sentence.
03:52 Our legacy will be we all not only did good business,
03:57 no, no, no, we all engaged
04:02 in the business of doing good.
04:06 (audience cheering)
04:09 (audience applauding)
04:12 (audience cheering)
04:16 (gentle music)
04:18 (upbeat music)
