00:00 It's Liverpool John Lennon Airport's busiest time of year once again as school holidays
00:07 begin for families across the region. Thousands of passengers from across the north-west are
00:13 expected to jet off abroad from Liverpool for their holiday over the coming weeks.
00:18 It's great to see so many people flying again and the last few years have been tough for
00:23 everybody. Airports in particular and aviation and travel companies. But I think people are
00:29 now getting back to normal. I mean we'll never quite be normal but certainly for us this
00:35 will be the busiest summer since 2019.
00:39 The airport's management continue to remind travellers to allow plenty of time to pass
00:43 through the terminal during peak periods.
00:47 We pride ourselves here at the airport on getting people through quicker and easier
00:51 in a really friendly way. But we do need help from people to kind of help themselves if
00:56 you like. So one of the key things we always like to remind people this time of the year
00:59 is just think very carefully particularly about what you're taking with you. So it's
01:04 all about preparation and certainly when it goes to security we still have the liquid
01:10 rules are still in place. You've got limits on liquids so don't take in excess of what
01:14 you're allowed to. If you're not sure what to take check with your airline. Check on
01:18 the airport website. There's lots of information out there that tells you the limits. So just
01:22 think carefully because bringing oversized liquids to or items you're not allowed through
01:26 security will just slow the process down.
01:29 Around 635,000 passengers are due to pass through the airport over the next six weeks.
01:36 The busiest day of the summer is set to be Friday 18th August with over 16,000 passengers
01:42 expected that day alone.
01:44 We also remind people again think about the journey to the airport. So allow plenty of
01:49 time to get to the airport let alone going through the airport. Could be roads, could
01:53 be rail strikes as we know. So allow plenty of time to get here. But once you're here
01:58 again we always recommend arrive about two to two and a half hours at the very most to
02:03 get through the airport. So you've not got to allow five hours and get here ridiculously
02:07 early. That's the great beauty of Liverpool these days.
02:09 Jet2 has recently agreed a deal which will see a raft of new flights take off from the
02:14 airport. Commencing in March next year the airline will begin to operate up to 54 weekly
02:19 flights from Liverpool.
02:21 We've been trying to get Jet2 to operate out of here and they're the first to admit that
02:27 it's been the airport asking for this. It's been the travel trade particularly to travel
02:31 agents local travel agents in Liverpool particularly who have been quite frustrated and suspect
02:35 that they have deals with other tour operators none of whom have gone through Liverpool and
02:40 keep asking Jet2 please run flights to Liverpool. So that's now happened so I think it's demand
02:45 that is now going to be satisfied at long last and a lot of people are very happy about
02:49 that.
02:50 Passenger numbers over the school holiday period are expected to be 22% higher than
02:54 last year. The airport has been commended for its customer service in recent years despite
02:59 the challenges of the pandemic. Coming top of the latest which UK airport survey.
