LG Display showed off some awesome OLED concepts at CES 2023, including a 17-inch foldable laptop with no crease, a 360-degree foldable phone and a swivel display that doubles as a lamp. Plus, the brightest OLED TVs ever, thanks to Meta technology.

00:01 What's the future of OLED technology?
00:04 Today we're here with LG Display at CES 2023,
00:07 and we're taking a look at third-gen metatechnology
00:10 for the brightest picture we've ever seen from an OLED TV,
00:13 as well as all sorts of new sizes,
00:16 including a 17-inch foldable that doesn't have a crease,
00:19 down to 0.4 inches for VR headsets.
00:22 Let's go take a look.
00:23 (upbeat music)
00:29 (upbeat music)
00:31 Look, Ma, no crease.
00:32 That's the main highlight
00:33 for LG Display's 17-inch foldable OLED.
00:35 This panel offers 400 nits of brightness
00:37 and supports finger and pen input.
00:39 But the coolest thing about this panel
00:40 is that LG Display says that the crease is not noticeable.
00:44 Upon close inspection, it was actually quite difficult
00:46 to make out the seam with the panel fully open,
00:49 which is pretty impressive.
00:50 The bad news is that LG Display's
00:53 eight-inch 360-degree foldable OLED
00:55 was not far along enough for us to play with it,
00:57 but we got a sense of how this versatile panel
00:58 might work through a quick demo.
01:00 The gist is that this eight-inch panel can fold both ways,
01:03 giving users more flexibility
01:04 in terms of how they use a mobile device.
01:07 The modular structure is durable enough
01:09 to withstand being folded more than 200,000 times,
01:11 and LG Display claims that the folding mechanism
01:14 minimizes wrinkles along the folding areas.
01:16 File this one under weird but intriguing.
01:18 The OLED Glow is a 27-inch OLED concept
01:21 that's both height and angle adjustable,
01:23 and it features touch technology.
01:26 Let's not forget about OLED TVs.
01:28 LG unveiled its third-generation OLED TV panel,
01:31 which promises up to 60% more brightness
01:33 than the previous EX panels and 30% wider viewing angles.
01:37 LG Display's new Meta technology
01:38 leverages an array of micro lenses
01:40 that maximizes light emission from the OLED panel
01:43 and a MetaBooster brightness-enhancing algorithm.
01:46 The result is a rated 2100 at brightness,
01:49 which would be the highest in the industry.
01:51 I saw plenty of other cool stuff
01:54 including a 45-inch OLED gaming monitor
01:57 with an 800R curve.
01:58 This tech is already making its way
02:00 into products from LG Electronics, Asus, and Corsair.
02:04 I also got up close with an ultra-small 0.42-inch OLED
02:08 that will be coming to VR and mixed-reality headsets,
02:11 and saw a very weird OLED concept
02:13 with speakers that move behind and in front of a 42-inch TV.
02:17 Overall, it's an exciting glimpse
02:19 into the displays of tomorrow.
02:20 I'm especially looking forward
02:22 to seeing whether smartphone makers adopt
02:24 that 360-degree OLED.
