00:18 Big alligators will eat smaller pythons.
00:21 Bigger pythons will eat smaller alligators.
00:24 That's a fact here in the Everglades.
00:26 Both have been observed.
00:28 [Music]
00:52 A big python that's hungry, if he comes across an alligator,
00:56 he's not going to stop. He's going to grab it, constrict it, and swallow it whole,
01:00 just like he would a bird or a rabbit.
01:02 [Music]
01:23 They kill by constriction. What that means is
01:27 they usually coil around your chest cavity, very powerful.
01:30 And as the animal that they're coiling around, whatever it is, exhales,
01:35 it gets tighter and tighter.
01:37 It actually stops the heart from beating,
01:39 and it stops air from flowing into the lungs,
01:42 and the victim literally suffocates to death.
01:46 Well, alligators can actually stop their hearts
01:50 down to just one or two beats per minute.
01:52 And there are occasions where the python will think,
01:56 yes, the alligator is dead, and begin swallowing it,
01:59 where in 5, 10, 15 minutes, the alligator may recover
02:04 and put up a fight while he's inside the python.
02:08 If it wakes up as it's being swallowed,
02:11 or after it was swallowed by a python,
02:14 it could be life-threatening damage.
02:16 All the python safeties are at risk right now.
02:20 So the alligator, if it wakes up inside the python,
02:24 could be devastating to the snake.
