00:16 Well, you know, my lady friends the queens are out of control.
00:21 Take a look with me down here at the table and I'll show you what I mean.
00:28 Well, there they are, two packs of cards.
00:31 In fact, this case, these queens are all alike.
00:34 As you can no doubt see, one pack will remain face down on the table.
00:40 The other pack will stay face up in my hands.
00:44 All alike. Here's what happens.
00:49 I put one of them on the table and merely exchange places.
00:52 One goes to the hand.
00:54 Instantly, the one on the back, each hand, every card turns face down.
01:00 Can they do it again? Let's take a look and see.
01:03 All I do is take one of the queens, moved from pack to pack.
01:09 Instantly, that causes one on the back to turn, each hand, every card turns right over.
01:15 What if you'd come in late?
01:17 I said, "Hey, Jerry, what are you doing?"
01:19 I say, "Look, all I do is take a card, turn it over.
01:23 When it goes to the pack in my hand, each hand, every card turns right over."
01:29 One more time.
01:31 In fact, you're probably even thinking to yourselves right now,
01:34 "Is this the only mystery Jerry can do with these funny little gals?"
01:39 They all turn face up, you noticed once again.
01:42 You know, when I run out of cards, and I'm glad you mentioned that,
01:45 all I do is gesture, and a queen turns over.
01:50 That one's out of control. I'll do that again.
01:53 Just a little gesture, and you see she's out of control.
01:56 Makes you wonder how many out of control gals I have here.
01:59 Not many.
02:01 You know what makes great magic?
02:03 Surprises.
02:05 You can see these are really out of control.
02:09 They are now jokers.
02:12 And jokers are wild.
02:15 In fact, let me show you how wild they really are.
02:18 A little wave, and just like that,
02:21 one of them changes right back to a queen.
02:24 By the way, when you perform this mystery for your friends,
02:28 they're going to want to look at these cards,
02:30 so make sure you hand out each and every one of them.
02:34 Especially these.
02:36 You notice how different they are from the rest of the pack.
02:41 Those are my queens out of control.
02:46 [music ends]
02:48 My lady friends the queens are out of control,
02:54 and let me show you what I mean.
02:58 You notice first off these cards are all alike.
03:02 That makes it easier for me.
03:04 One pack will go face down in the center of the table.
03:08 The other pack will remain in my hands.
03:11 They are all alike as well.
03:13 Here's the mystery.
03:15 All I do is shift a card from place to place,
03:19 and when I do, each and every one of these cards turn face down.
03:24 Let me try that again for you.
03:26 Watch even closer this time.
03:28 All I do is turn one of the cards.
03:31 As soon as I do that, another card turns,
03:33 each and every card turns over.
03:36 What if you'd come in late, said, "Hey Jerry, what are you doing?"
03:40 I would say, "Watch closely.
03:42 All I do is take a queen, turn her over.
03:45 As soon as that happens, each and every card turns over.
03:51 One more card to go.
03:53 All I do is place it on top.
03:55 Every card turns over.
03:57 You're probably wondering if this is the only thing I can do with these cards.
04:01 I'm glad you pointed that out.
04:03 What happens when I run out of cards?
04:05 I just pretend, and a card turns over.
04:09 You know, that's worth repeating.
04:11 I merely pretend, and a card turns over.
04:16 You might even wonder how many cards does Jerry have in this hand of out-of-control queens.
04:22 Not many, that's for sure.
04:25 You know what makes great magic?
04:27 Surprises.
04:29 These are jokers, and you know jokers are wild.
04:34 Watch and see just how wild these jokers are.
04:39 All I do is wave the card, and it turns into one of those out-of-control queens.
04:45 You know, whenever you perform this mystery for your friends,
04:48 they're going to want to examine these cards, and please invite them to do that.
04:52 Each and every one of these cards, as you can plainly see, is as different as they can be.
05:00 Out-of-control queens.
05:04 [No audio]
05:09 Well, you have seen the presentation of queens out-of-control from both angles now.
05:14 There are a number of cards here, as you no doubt see.
05:21 These cards, of course, have many different back colors to them.
05:24 In fact, in your group, you will find one extra queen.
05:30 More than I have here right now.
05:33 I have her hiding off to the side.
05:36 So what you can do is, and I take this card, the one with kind of a reddish-orange back,
05:42 and put it to the side for a moment.
05:44 This is an extra card you can use if you ever lose one,
05:47 or just let your own imagination run riot on this mystery.
05:51 We'll put her to the side for a moment.
05:54 Now, there are three--actually, four red cards.
06:00 Three of these are jokers.
06:04 One queen has a matching back to those jokers.
06:09 The setup is as follows.
06:11 Two of these jokers you will turn face-down onto the table for just a moment.
06:18 The queen and matching joker, queen on the face, we'll place here for a moment.
06:25 Now you have the rest of these queens with their wildly colored backs.
06:31 Take three of them--it doesn't matter which three--and place them here with these two jokers, as such.
06:40 Queen, queen, these are the two jokers, and a queen.
06:47 Now this packet I place into the left-hand side of my little folder.
06:54 In fact, if you want to mark this, I'll show you how in just a moment.
07:00 You take these other two wildly colored-backed queens,
07:05 and these two go in the middle, just like this.
07:10 So here is your setup.
07:14 They go into the right part of the folder.
07:18 Here's how I like to mark these for instant identification.
07:21 I usually take a little marking pen with a fine point on it, and I put a little dot in that corner.
07:27 That way when you pull this out of your pocket, you can instantly open it up
07:31 and know which pack you need to pull out of the folder first.
07:36 So there is our setup.
07:38 Watch that time and time again if you need to review it.
07:45 The first packet comes out, and we are going to do an Elmslie Count.
07:49 So let me explain that slight in detail right here over the shoulder so you can see it cleanly.
07:56 The Elmslie Count is as follows.
07:58 You're going to count these cards as if they are the four queens.
08:04 This card will remain hidden.
08:06 And by the way, this is the only way to do an Elmslie Count.
08:11 The cards are held in my left hand, in my case, in what we call a mechanics grip.
08:16 Notice how they are held.
08:18 These three fingers on the right edge of the pack, index finger at the top,
08:23 thumb on the left edge, a little bit of space underneath here.
08:27 The right hand will come in and grasp these cards,
08:32 moving these fingers slightly out of the way at the edge.
08:36 You're going to draw off with the left thumb the first top card.
08:43 That's counted as one.
08:45 You are now going to squeeze off the next two cards here.
08:49 You see this queen hides that joker, which is right below it.
08:56 Let me move back. Here it is.
08:58 That's one. I squeeze off those two.
09:02 Now as this hand comes back as if it were to take that second card,
09:07 it's going to redeposit its card, this queen, underneath and leave it there, just like that.
09:14 The left hand pinches off those two cards, which is a queen and the joker hidden.
09:20 You come back and take a third card on top of that and the fourth card.
09:27 Let me repeat that so you can see exactly how this should look at full speed.
09:33 That's one. That's two, three, and four.
09:44 Watch with a little bit more of an exposed view.
09:47 That's one. Squeezing off.
09:52 These fingers are held near the edge and the thumb, which is close to the edge, is what pushes that off easily.
09:59 It's okay if these spread just a little bit.
10:01 Here, don't worry about it because you're supposed to have two cards.
10:06 This was one. That is two.
10:08 Notice how this queen comes back underneath and will stick into the little space there where the fingers are.
10:14 That's two, three, and four.
10:19 Here it is at full speed a few times just so you can see what it looks like.
10:24 One, two, three, and four.
10:28 Watch that over and over again if you need to, to repeat it.
10:33 Let's get on with our mystery here.
10:39 The queens are in the little package.
10:42 Remember, this is four and that's five.
10:44 You begin by drawing the four packet group out.
10:49 Elmslie count one, two, three, and four.
10:53 Turn them over and you will have two of those red backs on top of those two wildly colored backs.
11:02 Place those face down in the center on your table.
11:07 Take the next group out, which is actually five cards,
11:12 and just Elmslie count as you did before.
11:15 Instead of pushing off two cards here, I'm pushing off three.
11:20 But the Elmslie count works just as well with five cards as it does with four.
11:27 So I have just Elmslie counted those cards.
11:31 I take one of the cards off the face, place it to the right of the centered pack.
11:37 I now take the next card, this one single card, and you want to carefully pick it up
11:43 so these cards on the table do not spread.
11:46 How I do that is to reach down, put my finger in the center, and pick up that one card, just like this.
11:53 That drops on top.
11:55 You immediately draw a card off the bottom, showing that one on the bottom has turned over.
12:00 Notice we see the same red back over and over again.
12:03 I Elmslie count, and it looks like they've all turned face down.
12:10 I deal that top card to the left of the centered pack.
12:15 I now turn this whole group face up.
12:19 Be careful that you do not allow this to spread and disturb prematurely showing wildly colored backs.
12:28 I now pick up a queen off the face, place it on the pack, draw a card off the bottom, place it on top,
12:37 Elmslie count, and they are now all face up.
12:42 Deal one card to the table off the face to the right-hand pack where the face-up queens are.
12:50 Now I'm going to slide the centered queen here back and draw one out from underneath
12:55 because that's the one with the red back.
12:58 She goes on the face of the pack here.
13:01 Once again, you repeat the same actions.
13:03 Draw off a card from underneath, place it on top, Elmslie count, and they are all face down again.
13:10 Deal that card over here to the left-hand pack.
13:14 You now have one last queen in the center.
13:17 She goes on the pack, just as before.
13:20 You show they have turned face down, face up, face down, and face up again.
13:26 This last card goes on to this pack.
13:29 Now at this stage I have nothing in the center, so I take advantage of this.
13:34 By the way, this is what you would have in your hand at this point.
13:42 Here's how I take advantage of it.
13:45 I just pretend to take a card and I make a gesture.
13:48 Now you Elmslie count and one back will show.
13:53 Apparently three face up queens and one face down.
13:56 I deal that to the side.
13:58 I say, "That was pretty good. Let me repeat that."
14:01 Now you've only got three cards in your hand, but you repeat the Elmslie count.
14:05 You just gesture. I push off one.
14:09 I singly push off the next card.
14:11 This card is going to go underneath and stay there.
14:14 Two, three, and four.
14:18 Apparently I have another face down card.
14:21 When you do this, you're going to want to leave this card protruding from the group like this.
14:29 Place that card face down over here.
14:33 You can now, if you wish, because you have two cards in your hands,
14:37 you can count them back and forth in your hand like this.
14:42 At a right speed, it looks as though you have one, two, three, four, five queens.
14:49 This is just a little extra bonus in the presentation.
14:53 You now toss two cards onto the table.
14:58 Here is the state of affairs at this point.
15:00 I have the queens over here with all these different wild backs.
15:06 The audience up until this point has been led to believe that they all have red backs.
15:12 In this pile over here, due to the way this has been handled,
15:18 that queen, the only queen in this group, will be third from the face,
15:22 ready for Elmslie count position.
15:26 Here is the state of affairs.
15:28 I have gotten to this stage.
15:30 I now gesture to these face down cards and say,
15:33 "You know what makes great magic? Surprises."
15:36 You square them up, turn them over, there is a surprise.
15:41 Now you Elmslie count, showing all jokers.
15:45 Deal one card, two cards.
15:49 You're now going to have to turn this pack over because you can't expose that queen.
15:54 Just turn the pack over, take that card off, the joker.
16:01 Say, "Since jokers are wild, I can wave this one over the queens."
16:05 You get some very magical surprise there.
16:09 Place her right there.
16:12 Now, for the big finish, you turn each of these cards over, one at a time, face down,
16:21 staggering them across the table like this.
16:25 That gives you the ultimate display, the ultimate change.
16:30 Be sure that you go back, practice the Elmslie count,
16:34 watch this over and over again so you get the feel of how it's supposed to look,
16:40 memorize the presentation, and then go back through this explanation as many times as you need
16:47 so that it is a clear picture in your mind of exactly how to do it.
16:52 Those are definitely our out of control queens.
