00:00 Welcome to the Graduation with Layers technique.
00:05 This hair shape continues the graduation series and shows how to combine these two techniques in their purest form.
00:12 This technique will give a huge repertoire of short to mid-length shape variations.
00:24 Prior to shampooing, make a thorough assessment of hair growth and hairline patterns, paying particular attention to the hairline and through the front.
00:33 Also at this point, make a decision on the hair length.
00:37 [Music]
01:05 Once the hair has been shampooed, divide the hair from the temple hairline through to the centre back.
01:12 [Music]
01:26 Then make a further division over the top of the ear.
01:30 [Music]
01:37 Now take a horizontal section, comb the hair down and holding it in your fingers against the skin, cut a square line.
01:44 [Music]
02:12 Now take parallel sections, comb the hair down and cut using the previous section as a guide.
02:19 [Music]
02:47 Do all the remaining hair throughout this section in the same manner.
02:51 [Music]
03:20 [Music]
03:42 Now graduate the back by taking diagonal sections, combing the hair slightly back and using the outline as a guide, cut the hair to the desired length and angle.
03:53 [Music]
04:00 Continue through to the front hairline with the same sectioning and cutting procedure.
04:05 [Music]
04:32 Once the head rounds off, follow the head shape while still allowing more length around the outline.
04:37 [Music]
04:56 Now take parallel sections, lift the hair out and over direct slightly back. Work to a point just behind the ear.
05:04 [Music]
05:33 [Music]
05:49 Now define the edge by using a pointing technique.
05:53 [Music]
06:21 In front of the ears, cut a line that slopes up towards the face against the skin through the comb.
06:27 [Music]
06:53 Now move on to the second side. Use the same sectioning and cutting procedure as for the first side.

11:17 [Music]
11:45 The hair through the top is divided through the centre and through the first side.
11:49 Take vertical sections and extend the graduation through the underneath by cutting a line from short to long.

13:49 In front of the ears, take curved sections and hold the hair slightly lower down and over direct the hair back.
13:56 Cut a line from short on the inside to longer on the outline.
14:00 Over direct subsequent sections back to maintain length through the front.
14:05 [Music]
14:34 [Music]
14:45 Repeat the same cutting and sectioning procedure for the second side.

16:47 Now cross check the internal length through the top by taking a horizontal section,
16:52 lifting it straight up and cut a line that rounds off any excess length.
16:57 [Music]
17:15 Now take sections through towards the front hairline over directing back.
17:20 [Music]
17:41 Prepare the hair for blow drying by applying a suitable finishing product.
17:45 Now blow dry using a wrap drying technique to encourage natural movement and shine.
17:50 [Music]
18:05 Controlling the mid lengths and ends will encourage extra volume and lift.
18:09 [Music]
18:38 [Music]
18:45 And here you have the finished result, a fluid shape that incorporates two extremely versatile techniques.
