00:00 Hey everybody, it's Kat. Today I am going to do a makeup tutorial for everybody. I've
00:05 had some requests on my videos to do one and I think it's about time to show you what my
00:10 routine is for basically going to work or something like that. And I work in business
00:15 casual environments so this is like professional makeup I guess you could say. It's like both
00:20 a trans woman or any woman really for that matter. It's the same makeup skills so I'm
00:27 just going to show you what I do and yeah, I hope you like it. So this is my bare face
00:32 right here. It's moisturized and toned and all that but this is what I look like with
00:39 no makeup on or fresh washed I guess you could say. So the first step is obviously to set
00:48 a primer and that is one thing I've already done before coming on here. And this one I
00:53 use is Makeup Forever Professional Hydrating Primer. It's not my favorite. My favorite
01:00 would be the Smashbox Blue one. It's also hydrating. My skin tends to be drier so I
01:07 like that kind of extra moisture before I do it. And you use this so you kind of protect
01:12 your face from all the other shit you're putting on top of it in addition to moisturizing.
01:16 Some people don't do this but I recommend it to protect your skin. So do it. The next
01:23 part is foundation. Now my foundation I like to use is Estee Lauder Double Wear. It lasts
01:28 forever. So if I'm working late nights in the office it'll still stay intact and it'll
01:35 still look good and doesn't run and it doesn't like blend into your skin and all that other
01:40 stuff. So I really recommend this as foundation. But you gotta figure out what you like. If
01:46 you like heavier coverage or light coverage or whatever works best for you. So yeah! So
01:51 I'm gonna do this. And honestly just a little tiny dab goes a long way. It's kind of like
01:58 you have to guesstimate a dime size sort of. And you have to find your right shade. Go
02:03 to Professional and Sephora or Nordstrom or wherever and get your shade matched so you
02:07 don't have color mismatch because bad foundation can really look trashy to anybody. So don't
02:15 match your foundation ladies. Match it. So yeah we just go in the T-zone, nose, cheeks,
02:30 mouth area. Sometimes I pour too much. That usually is what ends up happening. What you
02:42 want to make sure is that you blend it in really good. You don't want your foundation
02:46 cakey looking. You want it looking like it's part of your face. You just want your skin
02:50 to look flawless from it basically. And that's the goal of foundation. Is just to make your
03:00 face and skin tone just completely even. So that's foundation. Next part I do would be
03:10 doing the under eye concealer because today it's a little bit heavier and you can see
03:14 I have some red eye unfortunately going on. So I just do a little dab of I like Dermablend.
03:24 It's inexpensive. It's good coverage and it covers up my circles nicely. This is a concealer.
03:37 My next step would be to set it. I like to set it with Laura Mercier Translucent Setting
03:46 Powder. Just a tiny tiny bit of it goes a long way. You really don't have to use that
03:53 much of it. So you shake it out and I'd say probably about this much and that may be a
03:59 little bit too much would be enough to set the face. The point of this is that foundation
04:04 is obviously wet so I mean like this will give it kind of a nice even finish to your
04:09 face and will make it easy to contour and highlight and all that stuff. So let's just...
04:17 I'm like messy. I don't consider myself a makeup artist in any way shape or form so
04:27 this is not the most clean makeup tutorial ever. Anyway so there we go foundation. You
04:33 kind of look like a ghost now because you just have no color and it's just all... your
04:37 face. Oh! Blend that down too and just keep going. There we go. Okay. Next what I do is
04:47 bronzer and this is also known as contouring and highlighting and stuff like that. Just
04:53 add some definition to your face and stuff like that. So basically with this you want
04:58 to take a brush like this. It's kind of a stubby contouring fan brush. I like it just
05:03 because it curves and contours the face well. And I use NARS Laguna Powder. It's good for
05:12 contouring and bronzing. I use it for both. So basically first you want to start off at
05:16 the top of your ear and follow the hollow of your cheek and go up against your cheek
05:21 bone to your mouth or near your mouth. And you can literally feel the cheek bone right
05:32 there and I have a little bit more prominent cheek bones but if you have more not as noticeable
05:40 cheek bones you can kind of create. You can kind of create it. So yeah but I just go along.
05:53 The trick is usually they say follow the hollow and just follow the hollow of your cheek.
06:00 You know it doesn't take too much. You just want to get those cheek bones to stick out.
06:13 You know. Especially if you have nice cheek bones. Use them to your advantage. Then I
06:25 like to do the jaw just because it kind of slims it down. It's good for trans girls to
06:29 do that. Because trans girls tend to have a little bit bigger jaws. It just kind of
06:33 happens. And this can also, I just follow the line of my jaw. And depending on if you
06:42 have like, I guess if you were to have like a really square jaw, you probably wouldn't
06:52 want to you know follow your jaw line. You'd probably want to create it. So my jaw line
07:00 is a little bit, it has a little bit of a rectangle right there. But, and I like to
07:06 kind of curve it and round it off just so it's a little bit more rounded and feminized
07:11 by doing that. Now the next part I do is on the forehead. So you just kind of go on the
07:21 edge of your hairline. This just kind of, kind of just rounds the face out and stuff.
07:28 And the trick of contouring too is you kind of want a free effect. Because it's jaw, cheek,
07:36 forehead. And by doing that you just achieve a nice streamlined photogenic face.
07:43 The final thing I do is I move to the blush and bronzing. I guess I use bronzer, you can
07:52 use blush too, or you can use blush and bronzer, it doesn't really matter. So I just take a
07:57 little bit of the same NARS Laguna and I do it on my cheeks themselves, like the apples
08:02 out. And this just adds just kind of like a slimmer glow to your cheeks. It brings them
08:10 out. When you smile you just get that radiance like you've just been sun kissed. And you
08:17 also do right here, because you're doing all the low points in your face. And I like to
08:22 contour my nose too, because my nose I feel is like, I'm not just a fan of my nose. So
08:28 I'm contouring it down, it just makes it slimmer looking.
08:38 So we have that done. Now we have to do highlighting. And highlighting is super easy. I take a brush
08:48 like this, this is one from e.l.f., like $3, it's cheap. Wait not this one, oops. That
08:54 was the blush brush from e.l.f. This is the complexion brush from e.l.f. And I use this
08:58 for my highlighting. And this is Becca Opal Highlight. I got it at Sephora. I don't remember
09:06 how much it was, it's a little bit more expensive, but it gives just a brilliant finish and I
09:10 love the color. So we're going to apply this on the high points of the cheeks. And this
09:18 is just to bring out all your high points and just make you just glow and shine.
09:29 And that is the face part of my makeup routine. So when that's done, then I move on to my
09:37 eyes. And this I'm going to do, I'm going to start off with doing my brows, because
09:42 that just shapes the face. Trans ladies, if you have not ever waxed your brows from when
09:49 you used to be a boy, wax them. Because you probably have like a caterpillar brow thing
09:54 going on right now. And it's, if anything, do your brows. Your brows will feminize your
10:00 face considerably and people underestimate that. So anyway, this is, I get my eyebrows
10:06 like waxed, and I pluck them and I keep a tear of them. So I don't, I don't do much
10:11 anymore. I've been taking care of my brows for a long time now though. But I like to
10:15 fill them in a little bit and shape them. This is Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil. And basically
10:20 what you want to do is you just want to massage them up. Massage, curl them up. And this,
10:29 and then sometimes I'll just fill in a little bit because I have, you know, my eyebrows
10:33 growing weird. And eyebrows are sisters, not twins. So they will never look just perfectly
10:41 alike. There will always be some difference in them. Deal with it. It's the way life is.
10:48 Okay, there's my eyebrows, good enough for me. Next part is, some people would do eyeshadow.
10:59 I don't really wear eyeshadow. It's just, it's just a step I don't really do. If you
11:05 like eyeshadow, you'd put eyeshadow on now. Plenty of other videos you can watch on that.
11:09 But I'm just, I just don't like eyeshadow. So I go, usually I just put just mascara on
11:14 or liner. I'll do liner today. And liner, just bold your eyes. This is Estee Lauder
11:20 Double Wear Coffee eye pencil. I like more of a brown. I don't like usually pure black
11:25 eyeliner. It's just kind of, I don't know, just personal preference. Okay, I'm good with
11:43 that. So I'm going to actually blend it out a little bit. So on this other, the nice thing
11:49 about this one is it has a little smudger brush on the end. So I just like to smudge
11:56 it diagonally up. Just lift your eyes. Okay, there we go. Now next part, what I do is mascara.
12:11 But first I curl it. So get an eyelash curl. This is Kevyn Aucoin eyelash curler. It's
12:16 a little bit better. Spend a little bit more on your eyelash curler. You'll be beneficial.
12:29 Pluck but get it back, you know, just get them curled up. And then I do my mascara.
12:40 This is Chanel mascara. I've used a lot of different ones. Find the kind that works best
12:49 for you. And I'm sure as you've heard this before, as Kyra says, "Smize" when you're
12:55 doing your mascara. Okay, and then I, that was it. I have my eyes done. And like I say,
13:14 it's not perfect, but it's not bad. I'm trying to see, then I usually touch up a little bit
13:20 now. I can just kind of see maybe some places I didn't get as well. Now the final part is
13:33 I do my lips. I start with a balm. This is just lip. This is Lipvana from Atomic Cosmetic,
13:41 a local company. Now this next part, I do that with my lips. I like to outline the lips
13:54 just because it just gives them more volume and shape. Then lipstick I'll be using is,
14:09 let's see, what is it? Just whatever lipstick you want. I usually go with the nude. Do that
14:22 so you get whatever excess is off. And then you're basically good to go. And then get
14:29 your hair ready and do whatever you need to do to get on with your day. So I hope you
14:36 enjoyed my little makeup tutorial. It's not too involved, I feel like. And yeah, I think
14:45 it's going to be useful for somebody. So thanks. Have a great day and I love you and I'll talk
14:52 to you later. Thanks. Bye.
