A performance by Bruno Gallagher.

“Europe, Meine Liebe, Mon Amour, A Performance in Eight Absurdities.”

Residency Development Sharing @ Tramway, Glasgow

“Europe, Meine Liebe, Mon Amour: A performance in Eight Absurdities,” takes the form of a series of family friendly, highly costumed, physical performance vignettes inspired by travels in Europe and elements of autobiography. The work is non-verbal and will be accompanied by an abstract soundscape and elements of recorded and live music. The intention is to develop the work to be modular and suitable for a variety of performing contexts. It should be able to be performed as a complete set of absurdities in a theatre setting and also as individual elements both indoors, outdoors and within the environment of galleries/museums.

As a multi disciplinary artist specialising in drawing and performance, the project represents a key development in Bruno's continuing exploration of bringing two-dimensional drawings to life. A primary source of inspiration for this project was a visit, some years ago, to the Jean DuBuffet Foundation in Paris where Bruno saw elements from the 1971 performance, “Coucou Bazar, An Animated Painting.”

Residency activities at Tramway will centre around creative play with ideas of costume-dictated altered and restricted movement, object manipulation, masks, puppetry and response to sound.

Supported by a Creative Fund Award from Puppet Animation Scotland and by Tramway. Produced by Feral.
