When Heidi's ex-husband lets their son down, who was supposed to visit him over Christmas, she desperately searches for a place where she and her son can go to lift his spirits. She finds accommodation in a picturesque, old lighthouse. There, she discovers that they are expected to decorate the entire lighthouse for the city's traditional Christmas celebration-something she had not read in the fine print. The owner of the lighthouse, David, insists that they must get it done. Meanwhile, he secretly attempts to sell the lighthouse. Now, Heidi and her son are drawn into the city's Christmas festivities for better or worse, all while David ends up helping them more than expected.

00:03:53No.
00:03:54Maybe some of this, too.
00:03:55Jace?
00:03:56Jason?
00:03:57Jason, I'm home.

00:04:15Hello. Earth to Jason.
00:04:22What?
00:04:25Are you all packed? Your dad said he'd be here around 9.
00:04:28Pretty much.
00:04:29Okay, why don't I help you then?
00:04:31I'm good.
00:04:32Let me just make sure that everything's...
00:04:34No, hey, I said I'm good. Please, don't touch my stuff.
00:04:36Okay. Look, I want you to have the best Christmas ever in Whistler.
00:04:42But you cannot forget your paper is due.
00:04:44And I forget. You only remind me every day.
00:04:47You got yourself into this situation. Do you want to be held back?
00:04:50Yeah, Mom. I want to be held back.
00:04:55Turn it off now.
00:04:57Hey!
00:04:58It's bedtime.
00:05:01I can't wait to get away from this place.
00:05:17Max? Are you here already?
00:05:22What?
00:05:24You're kidding me.
00:05:26He is going to be so disappointed.
00:05:28We'll talk about this later.
00:05:30Hey!
00:05:32He's not coming, is he?
00:05:35It's Laura. She has the flu.
00:05:38I don't care about Laura. I just want to go snowboarding with Dad.
00:05:41He said he promised...
00:05:42This isn't fair!
00:05:44I know, Jace. I'm so sorry.
00:05:46I told all my friends that I was going away, and now I'm just going to be stuck here on Christmas.
00:05:52You know that I would take you in a heartbeat, but I don't have my passport yet.
00:05:56We're going to have a really fun Christmas together. I promise.
00:05:59All you ever do is boring work stuff.
00:06:02Hey! That is not true. I am just as fun as your dad.
00:06:07Whatever.
00:06:12I love you.
00:06:21You're kidding me.
00:06:22I know. It's unbelievable.
00:06:24Every single ski resort I've tried is completely booked.
00:06:27Vail, Copper Mountain, Beaver Creek.
00:06:29We have to do something. You should have seen the look on his face.
00:06:32Poor kid.
00:06:34I refuse to spend Christmas watching him play video games.
00:06:36Well, what about going to Mexico?
00:06:38I don't have my passport, remember?
00:06:39And I really want to go somewhere where he can get into the Christmas spirit like he used to.
00:06:43North Pole?
00:06:44I also want to be able to get there within three hours.
00:06:46And maybe get a decent cup of coffee.
00:06:48Okay, not the North Pole.
00:06:50Booked. Booked.
00:06:53Wait a minute. Have you heard of St. Nicholas Island?
00:06:56No, but I'm intrigued. Tell me more.
00:06:59Arrive by water taxi and spend Christmas in a unique location
00:07:04by taking residence in a historic and idyllic lighthouse.
00:07:08The island is known for its enchanting and festive community events
00:07:12and Christmas lights festival.
00:07:14That sounds incredible. See if it's available.
00:07:18It says four other people are interested.
00:07:20Now five.
00:07:21Well, hurry up and book.
00:07:22Are you sure?
00:07:23Yes.
00:07:24Prove to Jason he has more than just one adventurous parent.
00:07:26Okay.
00:07:28Booked.
00:07:33Pack your bags, kid. We're spending Christmas in a lighthouse.
00:07:46I can't believe I forgot the Dramamine.
00:07:49Just breathe.
00:07:50You want a bite?
00:07:56I'm good.
00:07:58You look kind of green, Mom.
00:07:59Just a little speed dizzy.
00:08:03I'm going to go stretch my legs.
00:08:05Do you want to come?
00:08:06And watch you yak?
00:08:08I'm good.
00:08:15Focus on your breathing.
00:08:18Focus on your breathing.
00:08:21In and out.
00:08:23You're right.
00:08:24I'm fine.
00:08:26Water's getting a little choppy. Maybe you should move.
00:08:28I'm okay.
00:08:29Ma'am, I don't think you understand.
00:08:31Please, just let me focus on my breathing.
00:08:35Don't call me ma'am.
00:08:38All right.
00:08:44Seriously?
00:08:47Are you laughing right now?
00:08:49Sorry, I...
00:08:51Look, I tried to warn you.
00:08:53Here.
00:08:54Use this.
00:08:58Are you trying to make me more nauseous?
00:09:00This smells like three-day-old fish.
00:09:02Look, you do realize this water taxi is going to St. Nicholas Island, not a five-star resort, right?
00:09:07Really?
00:09:08I thought we were going to Hawaii.
00:09:09Okay, if I were you, I'd get back inside.
00:09:13Like, now.
00:09:14You are not the captain of this ship.
00:09:16I will do what I want to do.
00:09:32Welcome to St. Nicholas Island, you two.
00:09:34Always a pleasure having city folk here for the holiday.
00:09:36Thanks.
00:09:37Sorry, what did you say your name was again?
00:09:39Earl.
00:09:40Earl Gleeman of Gleeman Transport.
00:09:42I'm also property manager of the lighthouse.
00:09:45I'm Melanie, and behind us is Jason.
00:09:48Nice to meet you both.
00:09:50Jason, say hi.
00:09:53Hi.
00:09:55He's a man of few words. He typically just grunts, so if he's saying hi, I think he really likes you.
00:10:00I'll take what I can get.
00:10:02This is where we're staying?
00:10:04Come on, it's going to be fun. A little rustic adventure never hurt anyone.
00:10:09You guys are going to love it.
00:10:11Hopefully I have my tetanus shots up to date.
00:10:13Online it looked like a yuletide dream.
00:10:15Come on, let's go inside.
00:10:17Can I give you a hand?
00:10:18We're fine.
00:10:32Really, Mom?
00:10:34This is your idea of a fun Christmas vacation?
00:10:40On the photos, this entire place was decorated in Christmas.
00:10:45Yeah, well, I think you got scammed.
00:10:51You didn't tell me we had duties.
00:10:53This is just a list of chores.
00:10:55What? No. This is absolutely unacceptable. I'm calling the owner.
00:11:00Whoever this Peter Sanderson is, is going to get an earful.
00:11:08No service.
00:11:10There's no service.
00:11:12Mom, I can't do a whole week without Wi-Fi.
00:11:14How am I going to get a job?
00:11:15I don't know.
00:11:16I don't know.
00:11:17I don't know.
00:11:18I don't know.
00:11:19I don't know.
00:11:20I don't know.
00:11:21I can't do a whole week without Wi-Fi.
00:11:22How am I going to snap my friends?
00:11:24Is this supposed to be some sort of punishment or something?
00:11:26Wait, just wait.
00:11:27Earl!
00:11:29Earl!
00:11:31Sorry.
00:11:32Hi, um, do you know who Peter Sanderson is?
00:11:36Of course.
00:11:37Everyone knows Pete.
00:11:38Do you know where I can find him?
00:11:40This time of day, probably at Ruth's.
00:11:42Ruth's?
00:11:44Where's Ruth's?
00:11:45I'll take you there.
00:11:52Wow.
00:11:55Earl!
00:11:56Twice in one day.
00:11:58Can't stop thinking about your shortbread cookies, Ruthie.
00:12:01Can I get a few for our newcomers?
00:12:03You bet.
00:12:04Coming right up.
00:12:06Okay.
00:12:08Okay, so is he here?
00:12:10Uh, let's see.
00:12:12How can you tell anyone apart in this sea of flannel?
00:12:16Sorry.
00:12:19There he is, right there.
00:12:22Your mom's quite a whippersnapper, isn't she?
00:12:24That's one way to put it.
00:12:26I'll get us a hot chocolate.
00:12:28Sorry, I'm...
00:12:31Sorry.
00:12:32Sorry.
00:12:33Hi.
00:12:35Excuse me, sir.
00:12:37You.
00:12:38You?
00:12:39Of course.
00:12:40Of course you're the owner of the lighthouse.
00:12:42I am.
00:12:44Is there a problem?
00:12:45Yes, there is a problem.
00:12:46My son and I are supposed to be here for a nice Christmas vacation,
00:12:48and instead, we are at a seaside shanty with Christmas duties?
00:12:52You clearly didn't read the booking instructions, did you?
00:12:55What are you talking about?
00:12:56Well, you're the lighthouse keeper this week.
00:13:00I beg your pardon?
00:13:01Well, it states in the booking instructions,
00:13:02whoever stays in the lighthouse over Christmas
00:13:04must help transform it for the Christmas festival.
00:13:07It's, um, the Christmas star.
00:13:10Christmas star.
00:13:11Sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about.
00:13:14Uh, Ruth.
00:13:15Can you help me out here?
00:13:16Well, as legend has it, many years ago,
00:13:19there was this heavy fog, and St. Nicholas was lost at sea
00:13:22as he was trying to deliver presents to the old orphanage here.
00:13:25And he almost gave up hope until the light from the lighthouse
00:13:29suddenly appeared out of the darkness, and it guided him to safety.
00:13:32He called it his Christmas star,
00:13:34and since that time forward, it has always been a symbol of hope.
00:13:37And for over a century, it has been the main attraction
00:13:40at our annual Christmas light festival.
00:13:42Wait. Hold on.
00:13:43Hold on. So, you want me and my son
00:13:45to help you decorate your lighthouse for a Christmas festival?
00:13:50Bingo.
00:13:51And why can't you do it?
00:13:52Well, he despises Christmas.
00:13:54He's an absolute scrooge.
00:13:56He's allergic to the holidays.
00:13:58He won't even pretend to indulge.
00:14:00In fact, this is his first Christmas back in, what, eight years?
00:14:06What she said.
00:14:09This is ridiculous.
00:14:10This is supposed to be my Christmas vacation.
00:14:12Listen, the lighthouse practically runs itself.
00:14:14It's automated.
00:14:15All we ask you to do is just give it a Christmas makeover
00:14:18before December 23rd.
00:14:20What if I decide to leave?
00:14:21Go for it.
00:14:22The next water taxi leaves tomorrow at noon.
00:14:24Perfect.
00:14:25But just so you know,
00:14:26you'll be letting down an entire island of hopeful Christmas enthusiasts,
00:14:30including many, many, many children.
00:14:35This is not what I signed up for.
00:14:37Actually, it's exactly what you signed up for.
00:14:43Let's go.
00:14:44Fifty bucks says she leaves.
00:14:53For the care and upkeep of the St. Nicholas Island Lighthouse,
00:14:56blah, blah, blah,
00:14:57staying here you will be responsible for preparing and decorating the space
00:15:01for the upcoming St. Nicholas Christmas Lights Festival.
00:15:05Is this a joke?
00:15:07I'm sorry.
00:15:08I signed us up for a week of chores and didn't even realize it.
00:15:12But let's keep an open mind, okay?
00:15:13This could be a fun experience for us.
00:15:15Decorating duties include stringing the lights,
00:15:18hanging the wreaths,
00:15:19wrapping the garland,
00:15:20and placing the lawn decorations.
00:15:22Hard pass.
00:15:23It's actually not that bad.
00:15:26Can we please just go home?
00:15:27I'm not going to spend a week decorating this place.
00:15:30Okay, buddy.
00:15:31Listen.
00:15:33No, I got it, I got it.
00:15:37My trip to the Space Needle.
00:15:40Is this your friend Joel's paper?
00:15:42Maybe.
00:15:43Jason!
00:15:44So?
00:15:45So, your makeup assignment is a ten-page paper on a historic landmark.
00:15:49And?
00:15:50And your friend Joel's paper is in your backpack.
00:15:52Do you think I'm stupid?
00:15:54Don't answer that question.
00:15:57Were you going to copy his paper?
00:16:00I wasn't going to copy it word for word.
00:16:02I was just going to use it as, like, I don't know, a reference.
00:16:06Okay.
00:16:07I don't believe you, and this is going in the garbage.
00:16:09Wait, no, please, please.
00:16:10No, I spent 25 bucks!
00:16:13You are lucky that I don't ground you for three months.
00:16:15You're better than this.
00:16:17I know this isn't your ideal Christmas vacation,
00:16:20but I signed a contract.
00:16:22Big deal, just blow it off.
00:16:23We don't blow things off.
00:16:24Dad does all the time.
00:16:26Can we please just go home?
00:16:28We're staying.
00:16:29And you and I are doing every single one of those duties together.
00:16:34This isn't fair.
00:16:35I'm supposed to be snowboarding in Whistler.
00:16:37Well, now you're spending your entire Christmas decorating the lighthouse.
00:16:40Deal with it.
00:16:58Let the holiday fun begin.
00:17:06What is that?
00:17:07Are we under attack?
00:17:08No, of course not.
00:17:10Maybe we are.
00:17:13It's okay, it's done now.
00:17:14Go back to sleep.
00:17:20Are you kidding me?
00:17:25I thought they just lit up.
00:17:28I'm sure we can close the whole deal before Christmas.
00:17:30I'm going to have to call my mom.
00:17:32I'm sure we can close the whole deal before Christmas.
00:17:34I'm going to have to call you back.
00:17:36Yeah, I'll get the paperwork ready.
00:17:39Howdy, neighbor.
00:17:40Earl.
00:17:42What can I do for you?
00:17:43Just checking in, see how you're making out being back.
00:17:46Well, it's like nothing has changed except everything has.
00:17:51Your father, he wanted me to...
00:17:53Earl, look, I appreciate you checking in on me,
00:17:57but can we just leave the past alone?
00:17:59Fair enough.
00:18:00What are we going to do about the new guests at the lighthouse?
00:18:03What about them?
00:18:05I think they got more than they bargained for.
00:18:09Well, then they should have read the booking instructions a little more carefully.
00:18:12Peter, they need help.
00:18:14Earl, the reason I book out the lighthouse during this time of year
00:18:17is so that I don't need to be involved with the Christmas festival.
00:18:20Most folks are really into the whole thing without me getting in the way.
00:18:23It's not a heavy lift, Peter.
00:18:25Just give them a hand to get them started.
00:18:27It's Christmas.
00:18:31Instant coffee.
00:18:33Okay.
00:18:42Oh, no.
00:18:45Hon, I think I'm going to go and get us some breakfast.
00:18:48Do you want anything?
00:18:49I'm not hungry.
00:18:51Okay.
00:19:01I'm hungry.
00:19:13How special for a special visitor.
00:19:16Oh, thank you.
00:19:18This coffee is giving me life.
00:19:20Well, that is what I like to hear.
00:19:22Oh, can I get another one of these to go?
00:19:24Of course.
00:19:25My offspring is infuriating me, but apparently I'm still obligated to feed them.
00:19:28Challenges of motherhood.
00:19:30Am I helping in any way?
00:19:32Um, unfortunately, no.
00:19:35Since his dad and I got divorced, he's been taking everything out on me.
00:19:39It's been hard.
00:19:41I'm sorry to hear that, honey.
00:19:43It just sounds like he's hurting.
00:19:45Taking it out in the wrong ways.
00:19:47Yeah, tell me about it.
00:19:49I just really want us to have a good Christmas together,
00:19:52but maybe I'm asking for a miracle.
00:19:54Well, Christmas miracles.
00:19:57What St. Nicholas Island is known for.
00:19:59You be patient.
00:20:01He'll come around.
00:20:03Thanks.
00:20:04I just hope bringing him here wasn't a mistake.
00:20:07Hmm.
00:20:27What is this? This is ridiculous.
00:20:29This is a mess.
00:20:31Who would organize it like this?
00:20:33I give up.
00:20:36Hey.
00:20:37Hey.
00:20:38Jason, right?
00:20:39Yeah.
00:20:40Peter.
00:20:41Just, uh, came by to see how things were going.
00:20:44Oh, we're just organizing your mess.
00:20:46Yeah, sorry about that.
00:20:48I, um, just came by to give you a hand.
00:20:51If you need it.
00:20:54We're fine.
00:20:55If you need it.
00:21:00Seriously, how many lights do you need for this lighthouse?
00:21:03Well, it's a pretty big lighthouse.
00:21:08Found the other box.
00:21:09Oh, hey, thanks, Jason.
00:21:11Nice job, man.
00:21:13Why are you so adamant about getting this lighthouse
00:21:15beautified for the Christmas festival
00:21:17if you don't even like Christmas?
00:21:19Well, it's very, very important to the island.
00:21:22That's why.
00:21:23It's like you just get a bunch of naive tourists
00:21:25to do all the grunt work for you
00:21:26so that you don't have to hire somebody to do it.
00:21:28Pretty genius scam, if you ask me.
00:21:30Mom, stop.
00:21:31You know, people actually seek out the experience
00:21:34to run a lighthouse over Christmas Eve.
00:21:36I think they call it an immersive experience.
00:21:39Uh-huh.
00:21:40Now, you're not very trusting, are you?
00:21:43That's an understatement.
00:21:46I'm a realist, so sue me.
00:21:48In most small towns, there's a tree lighting ceremony
00:21:50where people just gather around
00:21:52to watch the tree light up, right?
00:21:54All right, well, in this town,
00:21:55this lighthouse is the tree.
00:21:58Everyone gathers around to go watch it light up.
00:22:01There's carolers, hot chocolate, there's...
00:22:03That actually sounds kind of fun, doesn't it?
00:22:06It used to be my favorite day of the year.
00:22:08Used to be? What happened?
00:22:12Well, that's a long story.
00:22:16But, um, come over here.
00:22:17I want to show you something.
00:22:20Okay.
00:22:21We don't want any decorations to cover this spot, okay?
00:22:23Otherwise, I get in lots of trouble.
00:22:25How come?
00:22:26Well, apparently, many, many years ago,
00:22:29when St. Nicholas first came to town,
00:22:31the first thing he did when he came to shore
00:22:33was kiss this spot right here
00:22:35and thank the lighthouse for guiding him to safety.
00:22:38Really? Why?
00:22:40Well, as legend has it,
00:22:41the person who kissed this spot on Christmas Eve
00:22:44is endowed with divine direction.
00:22:47The ability to see where you're supposed to go.
00:22:50Seems kind of weird. Does it work?
00:22:53I don't know. I've never tried it myself.
00:22:55Wait.
00:22:56You own this lighthouse, and you've never tried it?
00:22:59It's just some silly story to bring tourists to the island.
00:23:02That's why.
00:23:04Well, any more questions, or are we ready to work?
00:23:09Whew!
00:23:16Okay, just wait around there.
00:23:18Looking good, guys.
00:23:39Christmas tree, go and shine
00:23:42My, my, my, it's perfect fun
00:23:47Wow, I cannot believe that we did it.
00:23:49It's amazing!
00:23:51Not such a shabby seaside shanty now, huh?
00:23:55So what's next?
00:23:56Well, easy.
00:23:57You can just take a long-deserved break if you want.
00:24:00Great job today.
00:24:03Would you look at that!
00:24:05This hasn't looked this good in ages.
00:24:08What a fantastic sight.
00:24:10Katie, this is Melanie and her son Jason.
00:24:12They just came in from Seattle yesterday.
00:24:14Oh, well, welcome.
00:24:15Welcome to St. Nicholas Island.
00:24:17Oh, thank you.
00:24:18This is the great Katie Cameron, our mayor,
00:24:21and her lovely daughter Sarah.
00:24:23It's nice to meet you both.
00:24:24I hope you're all planning on coming to tomorrow's
00:24:26Reindeer Games Carnival at the community center.
00:24:28What's that?
00:24:29Oh my gosh, it's an absolute thrill.
00:24:31We've got antler toss, Santa limbo,
00:24:33we have a three-legged race with a twist.
00:24:35You name it, we've got it.
00:24:37We've even got a treasure hunt for Santa's missing toy sack.
00:24:40That sounds great!
00:24:41Jason loves treasure hunts.
00:24:42Oh, great!
00:24:44I... no.
00:24:45I don't.
00:24:46Yes, you do.
00:24:47You play that treasure hunting game all the time.
00:24:48I know.
00:24:49Yes.
00:24:50I've played that in years.
00:24:52Crazy.
00:24:53Am I in the Twilight Zone right now?
00:24:55You'll be there.
00:24:56Right, Peter?
00:24:57Oh.
00:24:58Oh, come on.
00:24:59You haven't been here for Christmas in eight years.
00:25:01You have to come.
00:25:02As mayor, I demand it.
00:25:03Kate, Mom, you can't force people to come.
00:25:05Force?
00:25:06No.
00:25:07Heavily persuade.
00:25:08Yes.
00:25:09I will do my best, Katie.
00:25:11Yes, me too.
00:25:12As long as I can convince him to come.
00:25:14Hey, Sarah still needs a partner for the three-legged race.
00:25:16What?
00:25:17You do!
00:25:18I don't.
00:25:19I'll tell you what, Jason.
00:25:21I'll go if you go.
00:25:23What do you say?
00:25:26Okay.
00:25:27Ooh!
00:25:28This is going to be just wonderful!
00:25:32You guys are in for a Christmas to remember.
00:25:34This is going to be just magical.
00:25:35I can feel it in the air.
00:25:36Christmas on the island is like nothing you will ever experience.
00:25:40Bye, guys.
00:25:41Bye!
00:25:42Bye!
00:25:43This sounds like fun.
00:26:01Ready?
00:26:02Ugh, Chase, you look so handsome!
00:26:03Okay.
00:26:04I'm serious.
00:26:05You are going to be the man of the hour.
00:26:06Mom, stop.
00:26:07Can we go now?
00:26:08No.
00:26:09No.
00:26:10No.
00:26:11No.
00:26:12No.
00:26:13No.
00:26:14No.
00:26:15No.
00:26:16No.

00:26:30Mom, stop.
00:26:31Can we go now?
00:26:32Just let me get one picture first.
00:26:33Please.
00:26:34I think girl's here actually.
00:26:35No, just one photo.
00:26:36Come on!
00:26:37Okay, hold on, I'm coming.
00:26:38Gosh.
00:26:39So fast.
00:26:40Wow!
00:26:41This is incredible!
00:26:42I know.
00:26:43If anybody can put on a Christmas party, it's Katie Cameron.
00:26:44No kidding.
00:26:45It's like Whoville in here.
00:26:46Where's Peter?
00:26:47I don't know.
00:26:48I don't know.
00:26:49He's not here.
00:26:50I don't know.
00:26:51I don't know.
00:26:52I don't know.
00:26:53I don't know.
00:26:54I don't know.
00:26:55I don't know.
00:26:56I don't know.
00:26:57I don't know.
00:26:58I don't know.
00:26:59Where is Peter?
00:27:02He said he'd be here.
00:27:04If you said it, he will be.
00:27:06In the meantime, you do have me, your mother, the one who birthed you, remember?
00:27:09I'm gonna go get some punch.
00:27:12He's a hard guy to crack, huh?
00:27:14Yeah, he's like a cinder block.
00:27:15Welcome.
00:27:16Welcome.
00:27:18I'm so glad you guys actually came.
00:27:21This is going to be a riot.
00:27:22Can't you just smell the Christmas magic in the air?
00:27:24Absolutely.
00:27:26You've outdone yourself again, Katie.
00:27:27again Katie. Yes and your outfit is amazing it's very Rudolph chic. I was
00:27:31going for more high-end blitzen boho. Right sorry I don't know how I'm doing that.
00:27:36Love the pearls. Thank you. Peter Sanderson before my very eyes. Katie, Miss stopping by for a
00:27:45bit as I promised Jason. Sure, sure. All right I've got to go get the first relay
00:27:50started get ready for showdown. Well I'm just here to watch not participate. Oh me
00:27:56too. Uh don't be ridiculous if you're here you're competing. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
00:28:04Well I see my partner you two should get out there.
00:28:09Uh thanks for coming Jason would be really happy that you showed up.
00:28:13You guys worked hard and stepped up yesterday so had to repay the favor.
00:28:19Shall we try Ruth's cookies? Yes please.
00:28:27Sorry I'm so sorry. It's okay you barely even got me. If it was grape juice you'd be a whole
00:28:31other story. I shouldn't have spun around so quickly. Can I do something get some baking
00:28:35soda or something? It's fine you don't need to get anything it's fine it's fine.
00:28:39Actually you could be my partner for the relay race. My mom's making me participate in all the
00:28:44games. Really? If you want to. Yeah definitely yes yeah. Okay come on. Welcome, welcome everyone.
00:28:54What a special evening this is to see so many familiar faces and some new ones as well. As
00:29:01most of you know the reindeer games is a cherished tradition where each team
00:29:05competes in different challenges. The winners will take home the coveted reindeer trophies.
00:29:13So without further ado let's get this show on the road shall we
00:29:17and let the christmas spirit guide you to victory.
00:29:32Come on.
00:29:47Wow.
00:29:54Wow.
00:30:14Okay.
00:30:25Wow.
00:30:35You ready? Yeah? Okay if we win this we can get the trophy. Oh Snowball is my middle name.
00:30:41Okay. It's not it's Marie but Melanie Snowball Dalton has a really nice ring to it.
00:30:45That does have a nice ring to it Snowball Dalton. Okay everyone last challenge. We currently have
00:30:52a tie between Sarah and Jason and Melanie and Peter. On the count of Blitzen. On Dasher,
00:31:00on Dancer, on Prancer and Bixen, on Comet, on Cupid, on Donner, on Blitzen.
00:31:08Here we go.
00:31:22Time's up. What the heck? What was that? They've done it. They've really done it. Not a single
00:31:30marshmallow missed and with that it gives me great pleasure to announce
00:31:34this year's winners of the reindeer games Jason Dalton and Sarah Cameron.
00:31:47Good nepotism if you ask me. Yeah it is but I think the adult thing is to probably let
00:31:51them have it huh? Yeah we could start a petition and protest their victory. Oh city hall tomorrow
00:31:55morning you bring the megaphone I'll bring the signs. Deal. I always want to start a reindeer
00:31:59games revolt. Yeah. Thanks for that. I have no idea what you're talking about. You know if you
00:32:11didn't come he wouldn't have come and I haven't seen him have this much fun in years. Well I wish
00:32:15I could take all the credit for him being here but I don't think I was the only one that couldn't
00:32:20see him come. Young love. The best kind. Okay everyone who wants to do another round of Christmas
00:32:28limbo? Just for the heck of it. Okay. Let's do it.
00:32:50Yeah.
00:33:02Who are you and what have you done with my mother? It's called cooking and I heard it's
00:33:07really popular these days. Ruth gave me her famous pancake recipe.
00:33:14What are you reading? It's a beginner's guide to Morse code.
00:33:17Found it in a box of decorations. Wow that's kind of amazing. And I actually found a newspaper
00:33:22clipping inside the book about a small boat that capsized and then the old lighthouse keeper Hal
00:33:28Sanderson detected it and saved all the men on board. I have a feeling that this lighthouse has
00:33:33a lot more history than we realize and we're really lucky to be staying in it. What if I did
00:33:38my paper on it? That's a great idea. Really? Yes. Do you think Peter would let me interview him?
00:33:45That is genius. This is gonna be the best paper ever. Thanks mom. You know what? Peter's already
00:33:50here fixing some lights and I think I saw some more stuff on the second floor of the lighthouse.
00:33:54I'm gonna go grab it for you. Hey hey you need any help? No I'm okay. Are you sure?
00:34:09Don't you stand there. Okay okay just relax and breathe. This is not a yoga class.
00:34:14Turn around and walk down backwards. Yeah that's it. Good good. Okay I'm gonna walk up and help you.
00:34:18Okay give me space. Okay. Thank you. No problem. Mom smoke alarm. There goes breakfast.
00:34:34So you want to do a paper in the lighthouse and you want to interview me about it? You grew up here
00:34:46didn't you? I did. My dad. So will you do it? Come on please. It would really help.
00:34:58Okay I guess I'll do it. Sounds so enthusiastic. Just a lot of history there is all. Exactly that's
00:35:06why he wants to do a paper on you. I said I'd do it snarky pants. I'm snarky pants.
00:35:12All right so what do you want to know? Wow.
00:35:18Wow.
00:35:25Buddy and I carved our names in here when we were kids.
00:35:29And now he runs the water taxi. Cool. Yeah. So is this you?
00:35:40Yeah where'd you find that? Uh my mom found it here the other day. Is that your dad with you?
00:35:47Yeah it's Harold. Everyone called him Hal. Wait a minute Hal. He's the one from the newspaper
00:35:52clippings. He saved all those people. It'd be so cool to meet him. He passed uh about seven years
00:35:58ago now. I'm sorry. No it's okay. He was a good man. Yeah but we had a tough relationship.
00:36:08Do you miss him? Yeah every day. Especially this time of year. I miss my dad too.
00:36:15It's been a year since he left to be with Laura. Sometimes I think he's forgotten about me.
00:36:21No hey let me tell you something okay. Now I just met you three days ago and I already know for a
00:36:27fact that you're one special kid. There's no way your dad's forgotten about you. Not possible. You
00:36:33hear me? Okay. Hey your your mom told me that while you were reading a book on Morse code. Is that
00:36:39right? Yeah yeah I found it. You know that's my book. Really? I used to love to send messages to
00:36:45boats using the signal light. Cool. You want to take a look? Yeah. All right.
00:36:54All right.
00:37:01And h is four dots.
00:37:03So what are you sending? Happy holidays. So cool. You want to give it a try? Yeah. All right.
00:37:14Come over here. Pop in there. That's it. Yeah you just hold your hand there and open it up.
00:37:21Best candy cane k-pop ever. Right? I'm definitely top three. I told you. What do you think?
00:37:36Yes. This is the Rolls Royce of k-pops. Wait are you patronizing me? No never. I would never think
00:37:43of it. Oh right. Jason. Oh hi. They're lighting fireworks at the harbor. Do you want to come with us?
00:37:51Yeah if it's okay with you mom. Um okay fine but you need to come straight back to the lighthouse
00:37:57after. Deal. Hey. This one's mine. Sorry. I can't thank you enough for helping him with his paper.
00:38:06Getting him out of his angsty teenage shell. I think he really looks up to you.
00:38:10It's no problem at all. I'm just happy to help. And I want to say sorry for coming off a little
00:38:17strong the first day. I do take a little time to trust and I thought that you were scamming us.
00:38:23Scamming you? Okay. Well I wasn't the most welcoming so I apologize for that too.
00:38:29And it was my first Christmas back since uh...
00:38:35Your dad. Yeah. Yeah. I'm sorry. Was it sudden? It was yeah. You know the worst part was
00:38:43last time I talked to him I told him how much I just didn't want to be like him. I didn't want to
00:38:49end up on this small boring island for the rest of my life. Instead I want to you know go pursue a
00:38:55bigger life. But I wasn't here for him when he needed me the most. It's not your fault. You
00:39:01couldn't have known. Yeah but it doesn't take away from the guilt. Oh I know all about that.
00:39:07Jason still blames me for the divorce. He thinks it was my fault. Maybe it was. I don't know.
00:39:14Well I mean it takes two to have a relationship. Some things don't last forever you know.
00:39:20The thing that's really weird is all the Christmas family traditions that we don't do together
00:39:25anymore. Jason used to love decorating a Christmas tree and listening to Christmas carols and
00:39:32stuff like that. I mean I can always get you guys a treat if you want. Maybe even help you
00:39:39decorate it. I thought you were allergic to Christmas. I think I'll survive.
00:39:46Okay that would be great. Yeah.
00:39:52So where are we going? To watch the fireworks from the best spot on the island.
00:39:56Cool.
00:40:02Come on I have a better spot for us.
00:40:08Here it is.
00:40:14Thank you. Okay here.
00:40:18Okay.
00:40:21So whose boat is it? My parents. It's pretty cool. Do you drive it? My dad taught me but
00:40:28I'm not allowed to take it out in the winter because it gets too choppy. Does your dad
00:40:33live with you and your mom? Yeah of course. Why? It's nothing. You're just lucky. You have anything
00:40:41to go back to the way things were before the divorce. I'm sorry. And ever since my dad met
00:40:48his new girlfriend he's barely had time for me. Sometimes I wish he'd just break up with her.
00:40:53Why did your mom and dad get divorced anyway? Mom was working all the time but
00:40:58she ruined everything. Sorry I don't know why I'm telling you all this. It's okay.
00:41:03Hey. Are you hungry? Yeah. My dad usually keeps snacks in the taco box.
00:41:12Okay.
00:41:17You want a candy cane? Definitely.
00:41:25I'm glad you're here. Me too.
00:41:27Come on move over.
00:41:45Wow it's so beautiful. I have to admit St. Nicholas sure has its moments.
00:41:57I'm sorry I have to take this.
00:42:03Blue.
00:42:15Okay so this is a test and if you fail I don't think we can be friends. Those are some pretty
00:42:22high stakes. Well around here we take our Christmas treats very seriously. I'd say you
00:42:27guys take everything about Christmas very seriously. Yeah we definitely do. So what's the test? So every
00:42:35year Ruth makes two Christmas drinks and the island is split over which one's better cinnamon
00:42:39eggnog or peppermint hot chocolate. They both sound pretty good to me. No you have to choose one.
00:42:44I need to know if you're with me or against me. You really have a flair for the dramatic.
00:42:49You have no idea. All right here we go.
00:42:55Well? Hmm interesting. Interesting? I can't let you know which way I'm leaning. Okay.
00:43:04Okay that's fantastic. Definitely this one. The peppermint hot chocolate is my favorite.
00:43:09We can now officially be friends. Glad I passed the test. I was nervous there for a minute. Me too.
00:43:16So what's the deal? How did you and your mom end up here for the holidays? It's a bit of a story.
00:43:20I was supposed to go snowboarding with my dad in Whistler but he canceled last minute. So
00:43:26my mom booked us a trip here. Wow that's pretty cool of her. What? Well obviously she knew you'd
00:43:33be upset so she scrambled to book something last minute so you'd still have something special.
00:43:37Do you have any idea how hard it is to book something at Christmas? Not really. Okay well
00:43:41Not really. Okay well it's basically impossible. She's pretty cool. Yeah I guess.
00:43:53What? You have cream all over your face. You've got some on your face too. No. No.
00:43:59How good does this look? I feel like we're in a giant Christmas snow globe right now.
00:44:03You're starting to sound like me or Katie. Hey you two are getting into the Christmas spirit.
00:44:07Just admit it. Uh just a little. Maybe a tiny bit. Oh just a little bit. Yeah. Um I am starting to
00:44:14decorate back at the house a bit. Really? Mm-hmm. Yeah. So what are you up to this Christmas?
00:44:23Um I am starting to decorate back at the house a bit. Really? Mm-hmm.
00:44:30Well thanks for picking this up. It wouldn't be Christmas without decorating a big Christmas tree.
00:44:35You're welcome. Oh actually this is your mail. This big pile here.
00:44:42I'll just write that. Yeah.
00:44:51Everything okay? Oh yeah I uh just got a postcard from an old relative here. Oh okay um I'm gonna
00:45:01go upstairs and grab a couple of things but I will see you tonight at Ruth's pre-Christmas
00:45:07uh decorating party. Yep we gotta put the finishing touches on town square.
00:45:12Well pal things are looking pretty good around here huh? Yeah. I mean you're so lucky to own
00:45:17this place. Yeah. Yeah I am. Sometimes I forget that but you and your mom have really made me
00:45:26appreciate it lately so thank you. Look I'm uh I'm gonna get going but uh we're gonna see you
00:45:32tonight right? Yeah Sarah invited me. Whoa Sarah invited you. Yeah. You're really starting to click
00:45:39huh? Yeah but I think I'm in the friend zone. The wise man once told me the best kind of ship
00:45:47is a friendship. You didn't forget I said that. Not so good right? Yeah okay. Do you have a
00:45:55girlfriend? Oh no no I've been a lone wolf for the past couple years so. Don't worry you're cool
00:46:04you'll find someone. Thanks thanks a lot pal I appreciate that. All right we'll see you tonight.
00:46:11See you. Yeah.
00:46:18Oh cool you brought our stockings. Of course I did wouldn't be Christmas without them.
00:46:25I always love these. Me too. You know I made them just a couple months after you were born.
00:46:31Seriously? Don't act so surprised. My mom always made Christmas really special when I was a kid so
00:46:39I wanted to do the same for you. I guess you do a lot of things I don't see.
00:46:44It's kind of what moms do. You mean the world to me. You know that right?
00:46:51It's hard to believe this is the first Christmas we won't all be together as a family.
00:46:56I know and it is hard but maybe it's time for some new traditions. I mean honestly
00:47:03being here with you is the most fun I've had at Christmas in years. Me too.
00:47:10Okay well I better get ready it's almost time to go. Yeah I'll meet you down there.
00:47:25Mom? Yeah. Thanks for doing all that stuff that I don't see.
00:47:35Anytime.
00:47:56Go ahead. Thanks.
00:48:02All right everyone we've got a lot of work to do so grab an old friend or make a new one and
00:48:06let's get going. Snow machine over there, movie center over there and on lights and decorations
00:48:11we want those everywhere okay and let's have some fun. Hit it Earl!
00:48:55How's it going? Pretty good. I think I'm getting the hang of it.
00:49:09And how are things going at the lighthouse? I know it was a bit of a shock when you first
00:49:14arrived. Yeah you know I'm actually kind of loving it now. It's a little cramped with a
00:49:18teenager but Jason and I are spending a lot of time together and it's really amazing
00:49:23and Peter's been really helpful. Jason really likes him. Peter's a great guy.
00:49:30What's his deal anyway? He's single if that's what you're asking. Wow that is not what I meant.
00:49:38I mean why did he leave the island and come back so suddenly?
00:49:42No one knows really. I like to think because he missed us but you'll have to ask him.
00:49:48I'm switching gears. What about you and Ruth? What about us? We've been friends for decades.
00:49:56Oh right okay. Plus her Marty just passed a couple years ago. It wouldn't feel right.
00:50:03Time is precious Earl. Don't waste it. I hope you're taking your own advice there Missy.
00:50:10Oh nice work you two. Some folks are coming to my place for some hot cider and cocoa.
00:50:15Why don't you come and join us and warm up? I'm in.
00:50:22So care to take a walk and admire our handiwork? I would love to.
00:50:34This is so magical. It's like a dream right? This island never fails to deliver.
00:50:41I can't believe you ever wanted to leave. Yeah well my dad and I had a fairly complicated
00:50:49relationship. My mother died when I was really little and I don't think he ever
00:50:55really knew how to be a single dad. He just had a really hard time of expressing emotion. He was
00:51:02very reserved. You know that sounds familiar.
00:51:11I'm trying to do better. My last girlfriend actually told me that I was terrible at expressing
00:51:18love. But if she had a stoic Swedish fisherman as a father I think she'd understand that it
00:51:26didn't come natural to me. Yeah I get it. Telling someone you love them is the scariest thing in the
00:51:34world. It's like giving somebody all of your armor so that you're just giving them the power to hurt
00:51:41you. Why did you and your ex split? Well Jason thinks that it's because I worked too much.
00:51:53But the truth is Max left us for a woman that he met at the gym and the reason that he couldn't
00:51:59take Jason to Whistler is because she's three months pregnant. You're kidding. Max wasn't ready
00:52:06to tell him so I told Jason that she had the flu. I'm just so worried about how he's gonna react
00:52:13when he finds out. He was devastated when Max moved out and now he's starting a whole new family.
00:52:19I'm sorry that's a lot to deal with. It must make dating hard. I actually haven't dated at all yet.
00:52:29I'm terrified to be honest with you. You shouldn't be. You're smart, you're beautiful and you're a
00:52:36great mom. Anyone would be lucky to have you. Um listen I have something kind of cool I want to
00:52:47show you and Jason tomorrow morning. Can I stop by sometime? We'd love to have you.
00:52:54That's a date.
00:53:02That's where it's coming from. Nice catch. Yeah.
00:53:05Are you okay? You've been staring at yourself forever. What? Yes. No. Fine. I'm just making sure I look presentable. Why?
00:53:22Why not?
00:53:24Come in. It's open.
00:53:29Morning. I come bearing coffee for the big kids and Christmas donut for the man. Thanks Peter. No problem.
00:53:41So how goes the paper? Yeah pretty good I think. It's crazy how long this lighthouse has been in
00:53:46your family. Your great-great-grandpa used to live here. It's so awesome. Yeah yeah it is.
00:53:53Do you think we could come back for March break? Maybe yeah if it's not booked up.
00:54:01You wanted to show us something? Yeah well Jason you want to know what it's like growing up here
00:54:06right? I'm going to show you one of my favorite things. Okay. If you put on a jacket you can come too.
00:54:13Usually guest lighthouse keepers don't get to see this but since you're both VIP I'll make an exception.
00:54:24Ever since I was a little kid I'd come up here on the day of the Christmas festival. Boats from all
00:54:30around would come and watch the lighthouse turn on its Christmas lights. So they'll all be here
00:54:34tomorrow when we light it up? Yep. This is so cool right mom? Yes it really is. Welcome to Saint Nicholas
00:54:43Island. Merry Christmas. Happy holidays. Hi I'm Mayor Katie Cameron. If I can do anything at all
00:54:49please let me know. There are so many people this is amazing.
00:55:19Numbers always just came really easy to me. I love strategizing and planning.
00:55:24So yeah my brain's just perfectly suited for my job and I just did what I loved. That's amazing.
00:55:32You should be so proud of yourself. Thanks. Okay come on. Yes. All right check it out.
00:55:38Hey what's wrong? I'm just realizing lately that life is moving really fast these days.
00:55:53He's gonna be off to college in no time. It's terrifying. No time is very precious that's for
00:56:01sure. You just have to make the most out of the time you have together now. He thinks that he's
00:56:09such a grown-up but he's really still such a kid. He has these struggles with abandonment mostly
00:56:16because of his dad. I just want him to be okay. Oh hey he will be. He's got you and you're there
00:56:25for him and that is all that matters. You know I love my dad but like I told you he just checked
00:56:34out. You're gonna like that. You're here. You feel a lot of guilt about your dad don't you? Yeah
00:56:43seven years ago I was on my way back to the Christmas festival to surprise him and
00:56:49make things right when I found out he died. Every time I look up at that lighthouse I just feel so
00:56:55much guilt and heartbreak. He sacrificed so much for me and I just left him. He knows you love him
00:57:04and he would be so happy to see that you're continuing to make sure that Christmas star
00:57:10shines bright year after year. You're keeping his legacy alive and I know I never met him but
00:57:16he will be so proud of you. You're an amazing person.
00:57:22Melanie I need to tell you something.
00:57:26Hey Peter! We're going dancing. Maybe next time but but thanks. Not this year.
00:57:37This year we're going.
00:57:46Hi!
00:57:51Okay are we doing this? Oh yeah we're doing this. It's on. Really?
00:57:57You're never gonna be able to unsee this. Well I hope not. Okay.
00:58:17It's just gold eggs. It's always the quiet ones.
00:58:27I warned you. Wow.
00:58:37Will you ever be able to see me the same? I don't think so but I have to say I'm impressed.
00:58:46I didn't think you had it in you.
00:58:50Can I just say I'm really really happy you're here. I haven't enjoyed holidays as much in
00:58:56many years. It's been magical. You have made this one of the best Christmases I've ever had.
00:59:27Seriously that that was like really fun.
00:59:30It was. Yeah. Um hey would you want to come to dinner tomorrow night before the big lighting
00:59:38ceremony? Definitely. Invitation accepted. Okay because at some point we're gonna have to discuss
00:59:47those dance moves. I mean they're jaw-dropping. Breathtaking. Yeah no one can really explain
00:59:55now. Stop hiding me. No. No.
01:00:07Good night.
01:00:25Good night.
01:00:34Good night.
01:00:44Good night.
01:00:53Hey good night tonight. Yeah. You okay? Yeah I'm fine. You sure? Yeah.
01:01:08Okay well I'm gonna go to bed. We have a big day tomorrow getting ready for the lighting
01:01:13festival. Okay. Good night. I love you. You too.
01:01:32Wait you two kiss? Shh this phone is really loud. I don't want Jason to hear. Slow down.
01:01:37You haven't kissed anyone since Max. This is big. I know he's just so charming and handsome
01:01:43and he's really good to Jason. I guess I just got caught up in the moment. Well I think this
01:01:48is great. It's about time you started dating. We are not dating. I am in Seattle and I don't
01:01:56even know if Jason is ready for a new man in his life. Don't push something good away just because
01:02:01it's safer to keep things the way they are. I know you have a hard time trusting people,
01:02:05especially men, but you deserve to find love. This is not about what I deserve. This is about
01:02:10what's right for Jason and right now I'm just happy that the kid hasn't rolled his eyes at
01:02:13me in the last three days. Don't make excuses Mel. You know the best thing for any kid to see is
01:02:17their parent happy. Stop being so wise. It's getting really annoying. Well call me tomorrow
01:02:22with updates okay? I'm so excited for you. Enjoy getting your smooch on. You're insane. You love
01:02:27it. I do. I'll talk to you tomorrow. Hey how'd you sleep? Okay. Are you ready for tonight?
01:02:41Sure. I mean it's just plugging in a few lights. Oh well everyone here is pretty excited about it.
01:02:48I guess so. So I invited Peter to dinner tonight. Is that okay?
01:02:54Whatever. What do you mean whatever? I thought you liked him. I do.
01:03:03Have you talked to dad at all? No. My service has been really out of whack and I haven't even
01:03:09turned on my phone this last three days. Why? I haven't talked to him in a while.
01:03:16Sometimes I feel like he forgets about me. Hey buddy no that is not true.
01:03:22That is not true. Him and Laura are just busy and they're getting ready for the new...
01:03:31The new what? Car. They're getting a new car. Oh. But if you want we can call him later tonight okay?
01:03:40Okay. Hey Jace look at me. You know no matter what nobody will ever replace you.
01:03:52You will always be your dad a nice special guy and I'm just putting it out there but if you wanted
01:03:57to invite Sarah to dinner tonight I'd be happy to have her. So let me get this straight. You're
01:04:03planning on cooking? Hey yes. I found this cookbook in the cupboard and I thought that it'd be fun to
01:04:10make something with a little lighthouse history. Okay I'll ask her but if I were you I'd have
01:04:18Ruth's fish and chips ordered as a backup play. Wow. You have little faith it's going to be amazing.
01:04:24If you say so. You'll see. It might not be amazing. No I understand but look I don't think I'm ready
01:04:35to do it just yet. I know we agreed but look it's part of my family legacy. Can't we just take a beat
01:04:43You know get him to back off for a few days. He's coming here tonight for a final inspection.
01:04:50Um look I gotta go. Okay yeah I'll call you later. Thanks.
01:04:55Hey Peter. Hey Earl. What's up? Just stopped by to see how you're doing. Earl I uh
01:05:02I think I made a big mistake. About what? I have to sell the lighthouse.
01:05:09What? Like dad left all these unpaid bills, loans and tax notices and it's up to me to pay them now.
01:05:17It's a mess and I don't know what else to do. I'm sorry Peter. I wish you'd have told me sooner.
01:05:24Yeah I just wanted to get it done and forget about it but now that I'm here I realize how much this
01:05:30lighthouse means to everyone. I don't think I can go through with it. What can we do?
01:05:34What can we do? I don't know. This guy Ray he's a real estate developer. He wants to turn
01:05:42this property into condos or maybe a vacation home or something. You mean tear down the lighthouse?
01:05:48Maybe. He hasn't decided yet. Peter. Earl I'm so sorry. I don't know what I was thinking. It's okay
01:05:55we will figure something out. I'm just so confused right now about everything.
01:06:01Including Melanie you mean? Earl she's gonna leave with Jason after Christmas. There's no
01:06:07there's no point to get feelings involved. You can't run away every time things get
01:06:11complicated Peter. Yeah well I guess you're right about that. Do you like her?
01:06:19Yeah. Well then tell her.
01:06:21Guys this was so good. I can't believe you found that old recipe and made my great grandma's famous
01:06:27holiday yule bowler. I'm just glad I didn't butcher it. I have a new kitchen so this is kind of my
01:06:33return to cooking. Yeah right she's never gonna cook. She just likes the way her new kitchen looks.
01:06:39Hey! I'm not gonna cook. I'm not gonna cook. I'm not gonna cook. I'm not gonna cook.
01:06:47Yeah right she's never gonna cook. She just likes the way her new kitchen looks. Hey you never know.
01:06:52Come on. I thought it was delicious. Thank you Melanie. You're welcome. I may not be a chef but
01:06:59they say that the best part of a meal is who you share it with and I couldn't be happier than to
01:07:03share it with all of you. Okay well that was really cringy. Anyway I kind of like that. Me too. Yeah.
01:07:11Well you guys it's almost time. Should we get outside? Yeah the carolers should be here any
01:07:14minute. Okay. Oh Jason do you want to help me turn on the lights? Really? Yeah. Yeah I'd love to.
01:07:22That's like a big deal. Let's get to it.
01:07:32Come one come all to the great Saint Nicholas Island Christmas lighting festival. This ceremony
01:07:39is very important to so many of us. It's not just a symbol of Christmas cheer but of hope.
01:07:45A reminder that through the darkness there is always light to be found to guide us. That's why
01:07:51Sir Saint Nicholas called it his Christmas star. I also must make a few honorable mentions. This
01:07:57year our cherished lighthouse was spiffied up and beautified with the help of Melanie Dalton,
01:08:03Jason Dalton, and our very own Peter Sanderson.
01:08:10Now join me as we count down from five, four, three, two, one.
01:08:24Atta boy. You're really good. I'm very very very proud of you.
01:08:29Okay great job you two. It was awesome. We should come back every year. Well we'll see if Peter lets us.
01:08:42Can I get you two some hot chocolate? Yes please. Yeah? Yeah I'd love some. Okay you're right back.
01:08:48Thanks mom for making this happen.
01:08:51I got a gift for Sarah. I'm gonna go grab it.
01:09:02Excuse me. Are are you Peter Sanderson's wife? I'm Peter's wife. No I'm um I'm just a friend.
01:09:10Maybe a little more than a friend. It's really kind of undecided yet. Sorry who are you? I'm Ray
01:09:15Schultz. I'm here for the final inspection and walkthrough of the lighthouse. Will Peter be back
01:09:19soon? Final inspection? Sorry I don't know what you're talking about. Oh I'm sorry I just assumed
01:09:25everyone knew. I'm buying the lighthouse. I'd like to get the deal done before Christmas day.
01:09:32Buying the lighthouse? You don't um really seem like the lighthouse keeper type. Oh no gosh never.
01:09:40I'm thinking about turning it into a rental property or I might just demolish it and build a
01:09:46house you know like a summer vacation home. I mean these views are incredible. Tearing it down?
01:09:52Does Peter know that you're planning on doing this? Ray?
01:09:57You're here. I am. How could you do this? You're letting him tear down the lighthouse? Melanie.
01:10:03You lied to us. You used us to fix it up so that you could just sell it. No that is not true okay.
01:10:10I was trying to do one last Christmas festival for everyone. Jason is gonna be heartbroken.
01:10:15This whole town is gonna be heartbroken. I honestly can't believe you. No Melanie.
01:10:21Uh sorry can you hold this please? No.
01:10:26Melanie wait. Melanie wait just let me explain okay. There's nothing to explain. You know how
01:10:32hard it is for me to trust people and you spent the last week lying to me so you can make a few
01:10:35extra dollars. I tried to tell you the other night but then you you leaned in and I got distracted.
01:10:41Oh so it's my fault. That's not what I'm saying. Listen this lighthouse is barely functional as it
01:10:47is. It hasn't been used to bring people to safety in over 20 years. It's a relic and I can't afford
01:10:52to keep it. Your father would be so disappointed in you. You know nothing about my father. I know
01:10:58enough. Okay you're the last person to lecture me about honesty when you can't even be honest with
01:11:04your own son. What are you talking about? You haven't even told Jason that his father is having
01:11:10a baby. That is a completely different situation. No hardly. It's up to him to tell him.
01:11:18You know what? I'm not doing this. Tomorrow morning Jason and I are leaving.
01:11:25Mel. Merry Christmas Peter.
01:11:31Fine. Yeah.
01:12:11Jase?
01:12:21Merry Christmas Eve buddy. So I was thinking why don't we spend Christmas at home? Jason?
01:12:30Jason? Where are you?
01:12:32Jason? Hey you. Something wrong? Have you seen Jason? I've been looking everywhere for him and
01:12:44I can't find him anywhere. Maybe he's with Sarah and her friends. Maybe. It's just he normally
01:12:50leaves a note if he's going anywhere. Let me call Sarah. I'm sure he's okay.
01:13:02So
01:13:32hey Ruth. What?
01:13:47Anything? We've looked everywhere. But Sarah's rounded up some of the kids to help look for him.
01:13:52It's been hours. Where could he be? He's never even gone anywhere without leaving a note.
01:13:57Look I checked with the water taxi. They haven't seen him yet but...
01:13:59Melanie our boat is missing. Sarah showed Jason the boat the other day and we think he might have
01:14:04taken it. What? No he's never even driven a boat in his life. It's okay. We're gonna find him. I promise.
01:14:16You two stay here. We need eyes at the lighthouse. Contact me if you see or hear anything. Are you
01:14:21sure you don't need me to come? Positive. No I'm coming. All right you go and I'll be at the
01:14:25lighthouse all right? Don't worry. Christmas miracles are what this island's all about.
01:14:33All right we're good.
01:14:56So
01:15:07gift of divine direction
01:15:26okay
01:15:47I can't take this anymore. He's all alone. He must be so scared. We'll find him. He's smart.
01:15:54He'll know what to do. Where are you Jason?
01:16:01So
01:16:05so
01:16:23come on buddy
01:16:30that's him
01:16:32I found him. Jason's off Benson Point. Copy that. He's using Morse code. What's he saying? Is he okay?
01:16:40He's spelling out happy holidays. Let's go get him.
01:16:47Attaboy. I'm so sorry mom. I really am. It's okay. You're safe. What happened? Why did you go out alone?
01:16:57I heard you and Peter talking about dad having a new baby and I realized we'll never be family again.
01:17:03Jason I am so sorry. I wanted to tell you I did. Your dad wanted to tell you in person. He might
01:17:10be starting a new family. That does not mean that you do not mean the world to him. When the new
01:17:15baby comes he's going to spend less and less time with me. I know that this is a lot to take in
01:17:20but your dad loves you and he's always going to make time for you. We both love you. Nothing's
01:17:26ever going to change that. You promise? I promise and next time that you're feeling scared or uncertain
01:17:36find me. Talk to me. I'm your lighthouse and if you're lost you can't find your way
01:17:44you're always going to be here to guide you. You got that? I love you mom.
01:17:49I love you too.
01:18:06Here honey drink this. Thanks. I love you so much and I can't wait to open presents
01:18:13with you tomorrow morning. Mom? Yeah? It's still early go talk to him. Who?
01:18:26Peter. You like him don't you? Jason the only thing I'm thinking about right now is you.
01:18:34You deserve to have someone in your life that makes you happy.
01:18:37You make me happy. Mom you know what I mean he's a good guy. Go make things right before
01:18:42I steal another boat and never come back. Too soon? Way too soon.
01:18:54Peter where have you been? Sorry long story. We were supposed to sign these documents hours
01:19:02ago. I I wasn't planning on staying overnight. Ray I'm sorry but the deal's off.
01:19:10What are you talking about? I just can't sell it and let it get torn down or be turned into some
01:19:16vacation home. No no no no no no no Peter we had a deal. I know Ray but this lighthouse means more
01:19:22to this island and to me than you'll ever understand. I love my dad but he was a stubborn
01:19:29man and he should have told me about the debts he had the loans he couldn't pay and the taxes
01:19:35overdue but he didn't and I can't do anything about that right now but what I can do is not
01:19:40sell the lighthouse because if I do I'd never forgive myself. Peter I know this isn't an easy
01:19:47situation and I I feel for you okay but you said it yourself you cannot afford to keep this place
01:19:53so either I buy it from you and you walk away debt-free or the government takes it.
01:19:58Which do you prefer? I need more time Ray like I still think I can figure this out.
01:20:04How? I'll partner with him. Melanie.
01:20:11Investing is what I do and that lighthouse is the best investment I could ever make.
01:20:15Okay what what's happened again who are you again? Oh Melanie Dalton Peter's new business partner.
01:20:24Business Peter? Well you heard my new business partner she's made her decision.
01:20:34Well it looks like another Christmas miracle has come to Saint Nicholas Island.
01:20:40I think so. Ray I'm sorry thank you for understanding. I wish you both the best of luck.
01:20:50Merry Christmas Ray. Merry Christmas.
01:20:54Are you sure about this? I mean it's not gonna be easy. Of course it's not gonna be easy.
01:21:10Anything worth doing never is and Earl can manage the property when we're not here.
01:21:14We? We can register it as a historic landmark and even apply for non-profit status so that
01:21:19we're exempt from any future taxes. You really thought this through haven't you? It's what I do.
01:21:26Well should we go take a look at your our new investment? Definitely.
01:21:44I'm sorry I didn't tell you the whole story this week.
01:21:47I just care about you and Jay so much I didn't want to jeopardize that.
01:21:51Honestly what scared me the most was how much I was falling for you.
01:21:59Falling for me?
01:22:03Yeah. Well good because I'm absolutely falling for you too.
01:22:16So
01:22:41that one looks like the lighthouse. It does and I think I think we saw this earlier and that's
01:22:46what it looks like on the inside. Yeah. Oh. Hello. Well thanks again for getting him that book.
01:22:54He hasn't even looked at the uh video game I got him. Well that's a good sign and this is for you.
01:23:06The lighthouse. Our lighthouse. I love it.
01:23:16Hey. Oh come in.
01:23:46So
01:23:59you
