Every now and then a company comes along to breathe new life into old traditions, and ÁIGI is no exception. The Norwegian watch company is thrilled to announce its new line, the Automatic Satellite Ground Station Collection. Launching on Kickstarter, this innovative watch collection empowers consumers to not only own, but wear a piece of history — steel from the first antenna to be ever built in Antarctica.

The story
__________
Inspired by the historic KSAT (Kongsberg Satellite Services) and their vast network of satellite ground stations around the globe, ÁIGI set out to curate a collection of watches that the world has never seen, and can never be duplicated. In February 2022 the AIGI team collected steel from the first antenna ever built at the Troll Ground Station in Antarctica to incorporate directly into their one-of-a-kind design.

This groundbreaking collection brings a tangible element of the great scientific conquests of modern history to wrists around the world with affordability, quality, and design. Sleek, innovative, and modern, the new collection boasts three dial colors, inspired by the breathtaking colors of Antarctica — polar blue, polar white, and polar peach.

Purposefully unique, ÁIGI's Automatic Satellite Ground Station Collection comes with a well-placed sapphire crystal on the caseback that illustrates the globe. Furthermore, on the caseback you will find a satellite ground station and a satellite surrounded by stars, beautifully engraved. The seconds hand has a satellite on the tip that lights up in the dark using BGW9 Swiss-Lume technology. This glides smoothly around the dial, which is inspired by the pattern on the satellite antennas, with the help of the self-winding movement. The crown shaped like a satellite ground antenna will be made using this steel, so you can feel the connection to the universe whenever you check the time.
The dial structure is closely inspired by the radome surrounding the antennas at the Troll Ground Station. A radome is a structural, weatherproof enclosure that protects the satellite antenna, which gives it its unique look.
