Priya Gore is an artist based in Australia whose paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions nationally. Through her art, she endeavors to convey the power of nature beyond what "we humans can encompass". Priya believes that art has the power to both inspire and heal. In her artistic process, she most often creates with oils and acrylics on stretched cotton canvases.
Coming from a large family from a tiny village in India, Priya is the18th of 28 cousins. At a very early age Priya’s love for art was apparent when her closest two best buddies were a pencil and paper! To date, her biggest motivation is her mother who is doctor by profession, but wore different hats all throughout her life & was remarkable at everything she embarked on.
Until recently, where Priya grew up, your ‘destination/career’ is decided before you are conceived - either you must become a doctor or an engineer. All her cousins were asked to pursue medicine, but Priya chose to take an engineering route, even though both her parents were doctors. Priya adores being a geek when it comes to science, technology & craftsmanship. She completed her masters in telecommunications system design engineering from Chicago and after 3 years of working in the US, she joined her partner in Australia. Soon she was recruited in the National Broadband Network rollout & rapidly achieved high accolades in designing complex wireless networks for large enterprises. Priya was one of the top 5 finalists for the Australian national awards in the category of ‘Women in Engineering - Achievement in Technological Innovation’ in 2020.
During this time Priya’s shy but strong love for art was dormant. It came to life when she experienced true Australian wilderness, the beautiful unimaginable landscapes, tropical rainforests and diversified wildlife. Slowly and patiently, Priya began sketching at home, at the beach, at parks and wherever she could find time, and her best buddies “pencil and paper” were back in the game.
All her paintings have a dash of wilderness which she has either experienced first hand, or has let her imagination guide her strokes.
Priya loves to paint and draw pretty much anything she sees, but she has been focussing on mastering painting birds since 2020. We all know that birds are beautiful, especially the variety and diversity we have in Australia - it’s just beyond our imagination and grasp. Priya believes the feeling birds give us by demonstrating their superpower of flying is something we can not describe in words, but simply experience while observing them.
Birds are spirited, they are fleeting, their gestures change every other second. But in Priya’s paintings, they are there, they stay there!
