United States President Joe Biden on September 1 defended the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan. He said, “The extraordinary success of this mission was due to the incredible skill and selfless courage of our military, diplomats and intelligence professionals. No nation has ever done this in history, it's only United States.” He added that it was the 'right decision, wise decision and the best decision'.
"The war in Afghanistan is now over. I am the fourth president to have faced this issue on how to end this war... I made a commitment to Americans to end this war, I honoured it. Leaving on August 31 is not due to an arbitrary deadline, it was designed to save American lives, my predecessor, former President had signed an agreement with the Taliban to remove US troops by May 1," Biden said.
The United States forces left Afghanistan on Tuesday morning, marking the end of a chaotic and messy exit from America's longest war.
