India's 1983 World Cup Champion Yashpal Sharma, who was admired for being a gutsy middle-order batsman at the peak of his prowess, died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday. He was 66 and is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son. India started the 1983 World Cup campaign against the mighty West Indies and it was Yashpal Sharma's knock against fearsome Caribbean bowlers that set up the first win.
