This is the first part of our interview with the esteemed Dr George Fareed, MD, who has treated hundreds of COVID-19 patients in California since the beginning of the pandemic, both in outpatient and inpatient settings. He also has treated residents following an outbreak in a nursing home. Dr Fareed, who is a Harvard graduate and who held teaching positions earlier in his career, shares his experience and his invaluable perspectives, strong of 50 years of experience both as a clinical researcher and as a family medicine specialist.

In the first part of the interview, Dr Fareed talks about how he started treating patients early on with a tri- therapy combining hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin and zinc, inspired from the work of Professor Didier Raoult in France and the protocol developed by Dr Vladimir Zelenko in New York.

Dr Fareed comments in detail the algorithm for early treatment developed by Dr Peter McCulloch, Professor Harvey Risch and collaborators, that provides a logical framework for outpatient early treatment and includes several options for early treatment. Dr Fareed is particularly enthused by the novel treatment option based on ivermectin, which he sees as a new bullet for fighting the disease.

To be noted is that Dr Fareed worked in close collaboration with Dr Brian Tyson, who successfully treated 1700 patients, and whom we interviewed previously – an interview you are invited to watch if you haven’t done so yet.
