00:00This is the range country where the pounding hooves of untamed horses still thunder over
00:08mountains, meadows, and canyons.
00:11Every herd has its own leader, but there is only one fury, fury, king of the wild stallions.
00:18And here in the wild west of today, hard riding men still battle the open range for a living.
00:23Men like Jim Newton, owner of the Broken Wheel Ranch, and Pete, his top hand who says he
00:28cut his teeth on a branding iron.
00:30Fury!
00:31Fury!
00:32Why all this fury is, that's the one human voice he's learned to love and obey, the voice
00:45of the boy who once saved his life, Jim Newton's boy, Joey.
00:55Here's a mutual trust and affection that everyone can understand, especially a woman like Helen
01:12Watkins, Joey's school teacher and unfailing champion.
01:16Now kneel down and let me get on you.
01:25And there they are together, a great wild horse and the only person on earth who can
01:30ride him, Joey and Fury.
01:47Now if you and your wife don't mind a little walk, I'd like to show you all of my choice
01:55stock.
01:56The lines are excellent.
02:00Mr. Newton, that's the black stallion I was talking about.
02:03Now that's Fury, Mrs. Landon.
02:05He's magnificent.
02:06That's certainly a suitable name for the horse.
02:09Since we saw him the other day, Cynthia hasn't been able to talk about anything else.
02:12Is he for sale?
02:14He belongs to my boy, Joey.
02:15I reckon Joey'd rather sell himself before he'd take a part in that animal.
02:19Could I have a closer look at him?
02:20Certainly.
02:21Joey, will you bring Fury over here a minute?
02:24Sure, Jim.
02:27The perfect saddle horse.
02:29Hi, Jim.
02:30Hi.
02:31Joey, this is Mr. and Mrs. Landon.
02:33They're our new neighbors.
02:34They bought the bar BW.
02:35Hi.
02:36I'm sure pleased to meet you.
02:37It's a pleasure for us too, Joey.
02:39We've seen you and your black stallion on the range.
02:42To tell you the truth, I never expected to see such a beautiful animal in this part of the country.
02:46Fury's the best horse anywhere.
02:48I'm sure of that.
02:50That's why I'd like to buy him.
02:52I'll give you $1,000 for him.
02:55Perhaps you misunderstood me, Mrs. Landon.
02:57Fury's not for sale.
02:59That's right, Mrs. Landon.
03:00Fury's my pal.
03:01I couldn't sell him, not even for a million dollars.
03:05Well, that price is a little high, but I might give you $1,500.
03:10Come on now, honey.
03:11Don't press the issue.
03:12You heard what the boy said.
03:14You're right.
03:16I'm licked.
03:17But if you change your mind, you know where to find us.
03:20Before you go, I would like to show you the horses that are for sale.
03:23Some other time.
03:24I'm afraid no other animal would appeal to me just now.
03:28I'm afraid this isn't the time to talk about other horses, Mr. Newton.
03:31She's got her heart set on that black.
03:32I can understand.
03:33I'll see you soon again, I hope.
03:35You're always welcome.
03:41Ah, women.
03:43You'd think she's buying hats instead of horses.
03:46You've got the Landons wrong, Pete.
03:48They've got a lot of money, and they spend their time raising horses to show back east.
03:52Fury's one horse you won't get to show.
03:54Can I go see how that pinhole colt's doing?
03:56Okay.
03:57Don't be going all afternoon.
03:58I won't.
04:01Let's go, Fury.
04:08That was a pretty fancy price the Landons offered for Fury.
04:12It sure was.
04:13If it had been any horse but Fury, we'd have had a good sale on our hands.
04:16The way things are piling up, we certainly could use the money.
04:19Oh, all the ranchers are having a tough time this year, Jim.
04:22It ain't your fault things have slowed up.
04:25Things have not only slowed up, Pete, they've come to a dead stop.
04:28But talking about it isn't going to get my work done.
04:38Easy, Fury.
04:40You don't want to scare them.
04:46He sure is getting big.
04:48You know, you were a little like that once, Fury.
04:54What's the matter?
04:58It's Kyle.
04:59He's not able to scare the little colt.
05:01Come on, let's chase him.
05:03Oh!
05:33Gosh, Fury.
05:47I guess I didn't see that limb.
05:51Boy, that hurt.
05:54Boy, we gave that coyote a scare.
06:08What in tarnation happened to you?
06:32I was chasing a coyote.
06:34I didn't see a low-hanging branch.
06:36You better chase yourself inside and let Jim have a look at that.
06:52You're supposed to go under branches, not through them.
06:54Yes, sir.
06:55And we were almost on top of that coyote, too.
07:00There, how's that?
07:01It's okay.
07:02It doesn't hurt anymore.
07:03You sure you feel all right?
07:04Sure.
07:05I just got a little headache, that's all.
07:07You're lucky you've got a head.
07:09Now get your clothes off and get into bed.
07:11Pete will bring you up some dinner.
07:12Okay, Jim.
07:34Morning, Jim.
07:35Pete.
07:36Smells good.
07:37Joey getting up?
07:38Mm-hmm.
07:39How is he?
07:40Well, he seems to be okay.
07:41He slept well.
07:42That boy's head must be made out of iron.
07:43Morning, Pete.
07:44Morning, Joey.
07:45Morning, Jim.
07:46Joey?
07:47Headache all gone?
07:48Sure, it was nothing.
07:49And after school, Fury and me are going after that coyote.
07:50We'll catch him for sure.
07:51Well, don't run into any more trees, will you?
07:52No, I won't.
07:53I won't.
07:54I won't.
07:55I won't.
07:56I won't.
07:57I won't.
07:58I won't.
07:59I won't.
08:00I won't.
08:01I won't.
08:02I won't.
08:03Well, don't run into any more trees, will you?
08:13Joey, be careful!
08:15I'm sorry, Jim.
08:16I guess the pitcher was too heavy.
08:17Reckon I filled it too full.
08:20I'm sorry, Jim.
08:21No harm done.
08:24Here, I'll pour it for you.
08:29There.
08:30Bring the eggs, will you, Pete?
08:33You sure you're all right?
08:35Sure, I'm all right.
08:52I guess I better go get my slicker.
08:54Your slicker? What for?
08:56It's so dark. It'll probably rain before I get to school.
08:59Joey, there's not a cloud in the sky.
09:01There must be. Otherwise, why is it so dark?
09:04Let me have a look at you.
09:09I thought you said the egg was gone.
09:11It was, but it comes and goes.
09:14You better get back to bed.
09:16What about school? I'm class monitor today.
09:19We'll let Doc Bennett decide that.
09:30Well?
09:35I don't like it, Jim.
09:38You think it's really serious?
09:40It's possible Joey's got a fracture.
09:43Might have injured the optic nerve.
09:45How can you tell?
09:46I can't for sure. Now do we take x-rays?
09:49Will he have to go to the hospital for that?
09:51No. The county has a portable x-ray unit.
09:54I'll have them come out.
09:56I don't want the boy moved.
10:02I want the county hospital. Capital 1-500.
10:06Look, if the optic nerve is injured, then what?
10:11Let's wait and see what the x-ray shows, Jim.
10:14This is Dr. Bennett. Give me emergency, please.
10:19Come in.
10:24Hello, Helen.
10:26Hello, Jim.
10:28What's wrong?
10:30I don't know.
10:34I'm sorry, Jim.
10:36I've been out of luck with the girls.
10:38I don't know.
10:42I know.
10:44I know, Jim.
10:46I heard about Joey how is he I wish I knew the doctor's still in there with him
10:55oh well don't worry about it Jim little boys are tough they're always bouncing
11:00and tumbling around why you ought to see how they act in my classroom
11:10hello doctor Helen what does the x-ray show it shows congestion of the optic
11:15nerve Jim you can see where the fracture is depressed right here it
11:20extends from the point of impact to the optic nerve and that's what's affecting
11:24Joey's eyesight what does it mean this indicates that an immediate operation is
11:28necessary otherwise Joey will go blind oh no and Jim the longer we wait the
11:39less chance there'll be of saving your boy's sight when do you want to operate
11:44frankly Jim I'm not equipped to handle anything of this nature but I do know
11:49that Joey you'll have an excellent chance of recovery if he's operated on
11:52in the next 48 hours what surgeon would you recommend there's at least a half
11:56dozen who are qualified Martin and Stanley in New York Shafter in Chicago
12:01Chicago's closer Shafter's an outstanding specialist but time is
12:06essential maybe I can charter a plane well is it safe for Joey to fly it's a
12:13risk we'll have to take Helen let me know when you decide Jim doc yes how
12:21much money will I need hard to say Shafter's not cheap but I heard he puts
12:27in a couple of days at the clinic and that's free you know I always pay my way
12:30well figuring everything about $5,000 will you make the arrangements I'll call
12:40Shafter immediately we'll leave in the morning long distance please long
12:52distance I want to talk to dr. Frederick our Shafter I can't rest with that boy
13:05in there the way he is here I am talking about chartering a plane making
13:10arrangements for an expensive operation and I don't have the money I have about
13:16$200 saved that will help thank you Helen but I need 5,000 will you stay
13:22here till I come back where are you going I'm gonna run down to the bank and
13:25talk to Simpson what if he refuses you it's a bridge we'll cross when we come
13:31to it
13:37it's Jim back yet Pete no this waiting is making me as fidgety as a worm in hot
13:44ashes Oh Joey I finally got him to go to sleep
13:48do you think Jim will be able to raise the money maybe he's already got one
13:53heavy loan at the bank we'll know in a minute
14:04how'd you make out Jim I found out something today we've got a lot of
14:09friends in this valley they scraped up $3,000 3,000 that's wonderful but that
14:15still leaves you 2,000 short I have an idea where I can get the rest this is
14:20Landon offered me 1,500 I think maybe I can get her up to 2,000 you ain't
14:26thinking of selling fury Oh Jim you can't that break Joey's heart look I
14:30don't have any choice you heard what doc Bennett said we have to leave for

17:47he tries to explain the sale of fury that boy will feel betrayed yep sure
17:51hate to be the one that has to tell him somebody's gonna have to figure out a
17:54way to tell fury he's been sold to her I got a hunch he ain't gonna like it
