I was 15 going on 16 when I first heard this delightfully macabre and amusing blues/jazz number back in late September 1969 and recorded it on my reel to reel. Unfortunately the FM radio disk jockey failed to mention the name of the female singer/songwriter or her album (or mumbled it). When the recorder and the tapes all went the way of most obsolete products back in the day, I had only my memories and the title of the song. It was many years later that I discovered the artist who recorded this song was Canadian singer/songwriter Elyse Weinberg. The LP the song appeared on was simply titled Elyse (which has been available online, with original cover art, as a CD since 2001). Well, if I ever get around to buying Reuben and the Jets, I'll have every song that was on that reel ... the best reel I ever recorded.

Take this music video with a pinch of salt, or better, throw that salt over your shoulder. Included in all the footage is my first use of a cartoon, this one a B&W from the 1930s, which came out just right for the latter portion of the video. The Halloween season is definitely upon us!
