MANILA - The Hemodialysis Center of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) will partially open on Monday. This comes after the center was shut down last week after some patients experienced chills, and tests showed the presence of bacteria. The NKTI investigated 16 possible sources of the contamination. Thirteen of them turned out to be negative, including the water source, filters, pipes and lines, and dialyzer. The hospital is down to three possible sources -- supplies marked as sterile, solutions used as blood thinners, and whether hospital staff followed behavioral protocols. The center is expected to be fully operational by June 12. -- ANC
