MANILA – A suspected burglar was shot dead in Manila Tuesday morning. Manila Police District Homicide Division personnel said two burglars tried to break into a three-story apartment along Ampil Street in Gagalangin, Tondo through its rooftop. The house occupant, however, got awakened when the door's alarm system went off. The apartment occupant, identified as Antonio Roa, bravely confronted one of the armed suspects. While Roa and the suspect were struggling in possession of the gun, a shot was fired at one of the suspects. The still unidentified suspect, who was only armed with a knife, died on the spot after being shot in the head. The other suspect then fled the scene. Barangay 167, Zone 15 councilor Ernesto Ablante said this was the second time that the burglars attempted to break into the unit. Investigators suspect the burglars accessed the apartment through the unit beside it. The apartment unit that the burglars tried to break into was secured by barbed wires and steel grills, authorities noted. – report from Noel Alamar, dzMM
