The importance of eating healthy and having a balanced diet is a fact well-known throughout the globe. The current hot trend concerned with food keys in on 'Veganism', 'Quality of the food', and 'Organic food! However, too much of anything is not good too...Distinct from other eating disorders, orthorexia is “an unhealthy obsession with otherwise healthy eating.” Of what may appear as “health consciousness” at the outset turns into an unhealthy obsession. And this phenomenon is frequently observed in women and athletes. Although orthorexia is not acknowledged as a real disease, it can have an adverse impact on mental health leading to isolation. Outings with friends or socializing become a nightmare! Individuals suffering from orthorexia are extremely focused – and often obsessive about what kind of food they are going to eat to the point of nitpicking. Although orthorexia is not an “official” eating disorder, it can have severe physical and/or mental health repercussions if due care is not taken. So, eat healthily but do not obsess to the point where you can't savor the deliciousness of the food!
