Angela Scott is back at the Yavapai Humane Society to learn about the assessment process for newly arrived dogs. When dogs arrive, they don’t usually know the history of the dog so each dog is checked out. They get a full behavioral evaluation. The trainer meets dogs in a kennel to determine if they are scared, or willing to come out. There is a touch and handling test to see how they reach to touch or restraint. They check to see if they know any commands such as sit, or stay, and they see how they behave around other dogs. After evaluation dogs are made available for adoption. Every Friday and Saturday, dogs can be adopted at Petco. For more information on adoption, go to yavapaihumane.org.
