The Trump-Putin show in Helsinki was extraordinary.

But was it treasonous?

Former director of the CIA John Brennan thinks so.

He tweeted: "Donald Trump's press conference performance in Helsinki rises to and exceeds the threshold of 'high crimes & misdemeanours'.

"It was nothing short of treasonous. Not only were Trump's comments imbecilic, he is wholly in the pocket of Putin.

"Republican Patriots: Where are you???"

Brennan is referring to grounds for impeachment, outlined by the US Constitution as "treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanours".

The Constitution defines treason in article 3, section 3, clause 1 as follows: "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.
