Victoria and Albert exchange letters arguing whether Albert should leave for the University of Cambridge after being offered the position of Chancellor and about Bertie's education. Victoria wants him to be by her side for a reception as she receives ambassadors from foreign countries. During the reception, with Albert in attendance, Victoria learns of a cholera outbreak which has hit London. Physician John Snow suspects that contaminated water is the cause of the outbreak and Victoria insists on hearing his theories despite resistance from skeptical medical authorities. After arriving at the university, the Earl of Powis gets into competition with Albert. However, Albert wins after having the most votes. He attempts to decline the post, believing the students won't take a liking to him as he is not popular with them. With a little encouragement from Lord Palmerston who voted for him, he accepts. Returning home, he reconciles with Victoria. Nancy reveals to Francatelli she is pregnant, but later dies from cholera after drinking a tonic with the contaminated water in it as she believes it will help with morning sickness. After visiting her before she dies, Victoria reads the letter Nancy mailed to her after previously ignoring it and seeks comfort from Albert. Francatelli names the hotel, "Nancy's", after his late wife.
