Eric Geboers, Nicknamed 'The Kid' was the first person to win World Motocross Championships in the 125cc, 250cc, and 500cc classes. He first joined the Honda factory team in 1987 and proceeded to win the 250cc championship. Also with Honda, Deboers won the 500cc championship in 1988 and 1990,
After his retirement from motocross racing, Geboers competed in sports car endurance racing, in the 2001 and 2002 FIA GT Championship. Geboers also managed the Suzuki motocross team along with his brother, fielding Belgian riders Clement Desalle and Kevin Strijbos.
Sadly, on May 6th 2018 during a boating trip, Geboers went missing after diving into a lake near Mol, Belgium, to save his drowning dog. His body was found by rescue services the following day. Geboers was 55 and he will be greatly missed by Motocross fans around the World.
