Model Jocelyn Corona wants more Latinx representation in entertainment.
“There is not a lot of representation for us. We don’t really have that many opportunities to say, like, ok cool. This is my culture. This is what I do. This is where I came from. And this is my story,” she explained.
Corona left her home in Mexico at 17 to pursue a career in modeling after she was discovered on Facebook. The now 21-year-old says she had to develop a thick skin to deal with the hypercritical industry.
“It really helped me a lot to figure out what I like, what I’m not going to allow people to tell me, and what I stand for,” she said. “People are always gonna say I look too big or I’m not what they’re looking for. But that doesn’t mean that I’m not good enough. And I need to learn to [not] take those things personal because otherwise this is just not gonna work. There’s always someone that is gonna put you down.”
Jocelyn Corona sees herself as more than just a plus size model. She is proud to be Mexican because her heritage has taught her to love and care for people wholeheartedly.
