Ryan Martin is determined to make the most of his first fight in front of the live cameras as he looks to move into position for an English welterweight title shot.
Swindon’s Martin and former Midlands champion Craig Morris will go toe-to-toe in a 10-round eliminator for the English crown, currently held by John O’Donnell.
Both he and Morris have identical professional boxing records of eight wins with three TKOs and one defeat from nine paid bouts on points, both in title fight situations.
Martin, two years younger at age 23, was beaten by Michael McKinson for a WBC world youth belt and wants to make amends.
He’ll get that chance when he takes on Morris, from Ludlow in Shropshire, on a Channel Five televised card at the Leicester Arena on Saturday December 2.
They will box under the Cyclone Promotions banner, headed by former world champion and International Hall of Famer Barry McGuigan.
They made the trip for a press conference at Leicester City Football Club, as the home of the Foxes set the stage for fight night. Martin spoke to Seconds Out reporter Craig Birch.
