PRESS RELEASE: Seoul Community Radio, a Seoul-based radio station dedicated to exporting Korean electronic music sounds to the world has won top honors at the Online Radio Awards 2017, the biggest celebration of online radio in the world, sponsored by Mixcloud.
Seoul Community Radio (SCR) were awarded the prize of ‘Best Station, Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa’ by judges from a variety of worldwide institutions such as the BBC, SXSW and Resident Advisor, noting SCR’s ‘innovative visual approach’ and ‘commitment to growing local artists’
It is more global recognition for the Itaewon-based station, who recently celebrated their one year studio anniversary. To date SCR has featured over 700 individual DJs and acts with a commitment to showcasing the best of Korean electronic music talent to a global audience and giving international guests a cutting-edge audiovisual platform to reach domestic tastes.
SCR’s growth is indicative of Korea’s growing thirst for electronic music. Many of the stations resident DJs are mainstays of Seoul’s growing underground music scene as evidenced by the recent boom in music venues in places like Itaewon in Yongsan-gu.
SCR said: “It’s a great recognition to win the Best Station Award across what is a huge geographical area. We're strongly believe underground music talent in Korea has the potential to be the best in the world, which is why we feel the nomination really belongs so much to our artist residents, supporters and listeners who make us what we are”.
