WASHINGTON — The F-35B jet may see action this year as models of the plane are deployed to boats in potential conflict hotspots.
According to Marine Corp Times, the jet will join U.S. Marine vessels in the Pacific and Middle East.
Engadget reports that the F-35B is noted for its technological prowess, in particular short takeoff and vertical landing (STVOL) process. This allows it to operate from vessels and bases with not built, or unable to accomodate for current aircraft.
Engadget reports that the Marines plans to purchase 353 models of the b-variant and 67 of the aircraft carrier oriented c-variant.
