The inaugural “Cento Miglia” on U.S. soil, started in New Orleans and brought each driver and navigator through a carefully timed and truly exhilarating ride through the French Quarter streets, and other motorcycle police escorted paths through the city, then, along River Road, passing spectacular Antebellum Plantations, all the while competing in several “Prova Speciali” driver competitions, designed to test driving and timing skills. Entry in the event was open to Ferrari sports cars of all eras (1947 – 2017) and to all “Mille Miglia” eligible automobiles. Only 40 cars were be selected to compete in this historic automobile event. The Oldest Surviving Ferrari Sports Car in Existence honored the occasion by being the first car to take the start of the “CentoMiglia.” This entry, the 1947 Ferrari 159S Spyder Corsa, chassis #002, was not only the Third Ferrari Ever Built, but also the very first Ferrari to compete in the “Mille Miglia” in Italy, starting a legendary tradition.
