The 22-year-old hailed from Palmerston North and joined the Army in 2013, reported the Taranaki Daily. The New Zealand Army paid tribute to Morgan in a Facebook post, writing: “It’s with great sadness I find myself writing to you all today to confirm the young man who passed away on Mt Taranaki on Wednesday was one of our own – PTE Morgan Fraser, 1 RNZIR. Morgan was a keen outdoorsman, and over the past few days I’ve been privileged to hear stories about this young soldier – a good southern lad from Gore who was a determined and capable soldier with a passion for mountaineering.”Task Group Taji, or TG Taji, is a joint Australian-New Zealand military training force located at a military complex northwest of Baghdad, according to the Australian Department of Defence. The task force trains Iraqi military personnel in its ongoing efforts to target the Islamic State. This video was shared on July 7. Credit: New Zealand Army via Storyful
