LONDON — A TV worker in Soho is making claims she was asked to leave her job for being too attractive for the work she was on set to perform.
In an interview published on February 20, Emma Hulse, 24, revealed she recently showed up on time at UNIT television station for a freelance production gig, only to be asked by a line manager why she wasn’t “doing catwalks.” Not only that, he asked her for her phone number, and suggested they go out for a drink sometime.
Hulse then went to run an errand for a colleague, but before she could return, she received a text from her agent that she was no longer required. She says she was wearing a shirt, trousers, and lipstick, but nothing inappropriate. Confused, she went home, on account of being too beautiful.
In the interview with the London Evening Standard, Hulse is quoted as saying “Maybe that company employs plain looking people and maybe if you don’t look that way they don’t take you, maybe I was a distraction.”
The owner of the TV station has since terminated the manager, who was new to the organization and had apparently done a number of things that were not in line with the company’s policy.
