00:02:00Hey, folks, folks.
00:02:01Folks.
00:02:02I know this isn't what you'd call a serious occasion, but I think something should be said.
00:02:09Yeah, yeah.
00:02:10But I still think something should be said.
00:02:13You're a saint.
00:02:14I mean the real spirit of Christmas.
00:02:17Yeah, yeah.
00:02:18Now, here we are, all of us, good friends, sharing a little fun along with the hard work.
00:02:26Hey, Sam, that's the same speech you gave last year.
00:02:29Don't you remember it?
00:02:30Yeah.
00:02:31Wait, wait, wait a minute.
00:02:32Just give me another minute.
00:02:33I want to say something.
00:02:35Listen, this company's had a very good year this year.
00:02:38I think you all deserve credit because when a company works as a unit...
00:02:42Now, listen.
00:02:43When a company works as a unit, that's the only...
00:02:46When I get there, that's all.
00:02:49Mother, will you quit treating me like a child?
00:02:51I know you're all happy with your salaries, right?
00:02:55Hey, listen to that.
00:02:56Well, one of you is, anyhow.
00:03:00Well, why do you always make it sound so terrible?
00:03:02I mean, it's only an office party.
00:03:06Okay, okay.
00:03:07We're not going to go through that routine again.
00:03:10Mother.
00:03:12Mother, Sonny is only two years old.
00:03:14He doesn't even know what Christmas is.
00:03:18Well, I'm not like you.
00:03:20I'm entitled to do what I want.
00:03:23I want to have some fun.
00:03:26Well, then why do you always make me sound like such a terrible mother?
00:03:30I mean, I do take him on the weekends, don't I?
00:03:36Look, Mom.
00:03:37We're going to spend all day together tomorrow, right?
00:03:41Okay.
00:03:42And kiss Sonny for me, will you?
00:03:45Okay, Mother.
00:03:46Bye.
00:03:49Thank God, that's over.
00:03:55Excuse me.
00:03:56Will you take care of her, please?
00:03:57I really wanted to say that.
00:04:00And I just want everybody to know that I think that we've got the greatest people in this country.
00:04:08Yeah.
00:04:09And that includes the International Division, too.
00:04:14Merry Christmas.
00:04:17Now, I'll tell you something.
00:04:20Next year, we'll have a party again.
00:04:24And I'm probably going to get up here and say the same thing that I just said tonight.
00:04:29But it'll be a pleasure to see all your smiling faces and to see the happiness that I see here right now.
00:04:37So God bless you all and Merry Christmas.
00:04:47Merry Christmas.
00:05:15Welcome to paradise.
00:05:18Dan, I didn't mean to blow paradise for you, Howard.
00:05:25Mom, I was just showing Lee and Darlene your office.
00:05:28You know, the big tour.
00:05:29Help yourself.
00:05:31Dan, we're sorry.
00:05:32We thought you'd already gone.
00:05:34It's all right.
00:05:35I had a little work to catch up on before the weekend.
00:05:39Really sorry, Dan, old boy.
00:05:40Listen, we'll get right on out of here.
00:05:42Come on, girls.
00:05:43Back to the presents.
00:05:44Let's go.
00:05:45Oh, wait a minute.
00:05:47Stay and have a drink with me.
00:05:50Are you sure, Dan?
00:05:51I mean, we don't want to barge in.
00:05:52Nonsense.
00:05:53I'm glad you came.
00:05:55I've got something here that's better than that office punch, honey.
00:05:59Have you heard the executive BP calls?
00:06:01It's open house.
00:06:05It's very nice, Mr. Overland.
00:06:07I've never been this close to executive row before.
00:06:11Make yourself comfortable, darling.
00:06:14I'll do my best.
00:06:20Thank you, Dan, for your hospitality.
00:06:22Only the best for us, Lee.
00:06:23We're the old timers.
00:06:29Here you are, girls.
00:06:31I love champagne.
00:06:34Yes, it does seem to fit the occasion.
00:06:37Everything fits.
00:06:50Uh-oh.
00:06:51Relax, Kelly.
00:06:53Howard's already done that routine.
00:06:55I invited myself to your party.
00:06:57You heard the boss, Kelly.
00:06:58Get it together.
00:06:59That's great.
00:07:01We'll be just very late.
00:07:02What happened?
00:07:03Sam Lewis cornered Ginger in the accounting department.
00:07:06What?
00:07:07It was okay.
00:07:08Well, he's funny when he's drunk.
00:07:10Well, after all the hassle, I hope no one has to go home in five minutes.
00:07:15Not me.
00:07:19Hey, hey, hey.
00:07:20It's time to rock around the clock, huh, Ginger?
00:07:22Sit down.
00:07:23I'll get you something to drink.
00:07:25I think I'll have gin this time.
00:07:52Hey, Sam.
00:07:53We're going party.
00:07:55Hey, Sam.
00:07:56Hey, Stash.
00:07:57Stash, what are you going to do, lock us up in here for the night?
00:08:00Oh, such luck, Sam.
00:08:01Oh, such luck.
00:08:03Ever since we had that robbery, I got orders to secure this floor on the weekend.
00:08:07But there's one problem with that, Stash.
00:08:09You're opening again Monday morning, right?
00:08:11Come on.
00:08:12Come on.
00:08:13Everybody's left the building already.
00:08:14Come on.
00:08:15Come on.
00:08:16I thought you guys were going to make a night of this.
00:08:17I tried, but who listens to me, Stash?
00:08:19Where's my elevator?
00:08:20Right there.
00:08:21Hold the elevator.
00:08:39Can I help you, Mr. Overland?
00:08:41Kenny.
00:08:42I thought everybody'd gone home.
00:08:44I was just bringing up the rear.
00:08:45Want me to hold the elevator for you?
00:08:48Hi, Kenny.
00:08:51Hi, Darlene.
00:08:54Kenny was just on his way to the elevator.
00:08:56Oh.
00:08:58Merry Christmas.
00:09:00Yeah, Merry Christmas.
00:09:04You see, I'm supposed to lock up.
00:09:06I'll let myself out.
00:09:07But who's going to close the light?
00:09:08Merry Christmas, Kenny.
00:09:10Yeah.
00:09:12Thanks, sir.
00:09:25Hey!
00:09:26Hold it.
00:09:27Is that everybody?
00:09:28Yeah, I'm the last one.
00:09:29All right.
00:09:30Stand back.
00:09:42Every year's the same.
00:09:43Same speeches, same promises.
00:09:46He'll be all right.
00:09:47You can bet on that.
00:09:48Yeah, well, Mr. Gordon's going to make sure he drives home safely.
00:09:51Oh, that's for sure, sir.
00:09:52He'll be all right.
00:09:53Merry Christmas to you, Stash.
00:09:55Same to you, Kenny.
00:09:56Now drive carefully.
00:09:57I will.
00:09:58I will.
00:09:59Hey, look out.
00:10:00I'm sorry.
00:10:01What's the hurry?
00:10:02Kids are always in a hurry today.
00:10:04Tommy.
00:10:06What are you doing here?
00:10:07I thought you had the weekend off.
00:10:08They changed the schedule.
00:10:10Oh, that's too bad.
00:10:11Oh, look.
00:10:12It's just you and me tonight.
00:10:13So how about a game of checkers later?
00:10:15Gotta fix the heating system on 12.
00:10:19Was it going to take long?
00:10:20Probably all night.
00:10:22Oh, look.
00:10:23I'll bring you up some coffee later, all right?
00:10:24Are you kidding?
00:10:25Who drinks coffee on Christmas Eve?
00:10:31That's as good a party as you can.
00:10:33Why?
00:10:34Well, you walk down the halls, you see people all year long.
00:10:39How long have you been with the company, Ginger?
00:10:41Three and a half months next weekend.
00:10:43Two more weeks in New York City.
00:10:45Back to nature for a while.
00:10:47Where are you going?
00:10:49Aspen.
00:10:51Again?
00:10:52Yeah, they call me King of the Mountain.
00:10:55Oh, fantastic.
00:10:57I've never been to New York.
00:10:59Well, maybe if you're lucky, the king here will let you carry him.
00:11:04He always seems to do the most exciting things, Kelly.
00:11:08I mean, Aspen.
00:11:10It's fantastic.
00:11:12Yeah, I hope to go up there at least twice this season.
00:11:14That is, if I can convince the old man there he can get along without me.
00:11:18I don't think that ought to be too difficult for you.
00:11:27You remind me of a little girl on a swing.
00:11:30I love it.
00:11:32This chair is so comfortable.
00:11:36I suppose that you have a boyfriend waiting or a party that you've got to go to.
00:11:42Nothing urgent.
00:11:45Well, I'm glad you decided to stay.
00:11:48So am I.
00:11:53I'm also curious.
00:11:55What about?
00:11:56The flattery, the tender smile.
00:11:59Now, is it just a required protocol for executive role?
00:12:04Or are you really interested?
00:12:09I find you a very interesting man.
00:13:20You know, we can talk straight with each other, Ginger, can't we?
00:13:24I don't know if we're both in the same team.
00:13:26Sure.
00:13:29That's why I know I can ask a little favor.
00:13:32You do it for me.
00:13:34Sure, if I could.
00:13:35Yeah.
00:13:36Now, uh...
00:13:39Come on outside.
00:13:40Come on.
00:13:50Yeah, right here.
00:13:53Now, look.
00:13:55This may sound crazy, but you are the only one in this whole company that I can ask.
00:13:59I am?
00:14:00Yeah.
00:14:01You're in charge of the personnel records, aren't you?
00:14:03I mean, the confidential files.
00:14:05More or less.
00:14:07Ginger.
00:14:10I'm sure he doesn't look at those files.
00:14:12Just one quick look.
00:14:19The files are locked.
00:14:20Ginger.
00:14:21I'm not supposed to let anybody look at them.
00:14:26I could lose my job.
00:14:28Ginger.
00:14:29Ginger, you don't seem to understand.
00:14:31I need that promotion.
00:14:49Charlie!
00:14:51Charlie!
00:14:56Charlie!
00:15:17Charlie!
00:15:18Charlie!
00:15:22Charlie!
00:15:23Charlie!
00:15:25Charlie!
00:15:28Charlie!
00:15:34Charlie, stop!
00:15:37Charlie, stop!
00:15:38No!
00:15:39No!
00:15:41No!
00:15:42No!
00:15:43Charlie, I'm gonna hurt you!
00:15:44Stop it!
00:15:45Stop it!
00:15:56No!
00:15:57No!
00:15:59No!
00:16:107-0.
00:16:23This is 420.
00:16:24This is 6-0-8.
00:16:25Battalion 1, we have a major fire in progress on the 12th floor of the Whitney Towers building.
00:16:48Give me a third alarm assignment, three additional truck companies and all available air bottles.
00:16:53Battalion 1, do you have a rescue problem?
00:16:55Negative. We have one fatality, one man injured. The injured man has been identified as a security guard. He said there's nobody else in the building.
00:17:0110-4, Battalion 1.
00:17:13We've managed to get Chief Packard over here for a moment and tell us the problems his men are having with this fire.
00:17:19Chief Packard, can you tell us please what's going on?
00:17:21Well, for one thing, the fire started 126 feet above ground level and we don't have aerial equipment high enough to reach that far.
00:17:28So everything we're fighting this fire with has to be carried up on our backs.
00:17:31I see. There's a surprising lack of flames visible from the outside. Why is that?
00:17:36Well, that's because a tall building like this is like a giant incinerator. The heat, the smoke, the flames go straight up.
00:17:42The building literally becomes a chimney.
00:17:44And any inside opening like an elevator shaft or a stairwell or air conditioning ducts just sucks the smoke, the heat, the flames straight up and pushes them outward.
00:17:52We can't get above it, so we have to fight it from below. So to chase it from floor to floor.
00:17:57Well, the fire has already climbed seven floors so far. Now, is there a possibility it would go all the way to the top?
00:18:02Yeah, there's always that possibility, but we're certainly going to do everything we can to keep that from happening.
00:18:06Well, what steps there would you be... Excuse me.
00:18:08Please.
00:18:10Morphine or anyone?
00:18:12No. No, I'm going to just...
00:18:13Stay with it.
00:18:14I'll take some, Kelly.
00:18:16Just happen to have another bottle. Oh, nice.
00:18:20Oh, really?
00:18:21Yeah. I would say, the last statistic I read anyway said that there were about 51 and some odd percent women...
00:18:27You really like him, don't you?
00:18:30Mm.
00:18:32He's fantastic.
00:18:35He's rotten.
00:18:37He's rotten.
00:18:40He's fantastic.
00:18:42Yeah, he makes a pretty good presentation.
00:18:46You mean you and him?
00:18:48No. Well, almost.
00:18:51But, um, that was another office party.
00:18:54Anyway, don't let it worry you. I mean, Kelly's really not my type.
00:18:58Besides, that was almost two years ago.
00:19:02Mr. Overland can't tell us.
00:19:05He's busy. He wouldn't know we're gone.
00:19:08Come on, Ginger. It's just down the hall.
00:19:12Come on, please.
00:19:14Come on.
00:19:18Yes, that's true.
00:19:20How about a refill?
00:19:22Help yourself. We've got our own bottle.
00:19:31Howard?
00:19:37Here we go.
00:19:52You're crazy about lamb chops. Well done.
00:19:56Medium.
00:19:58And you buy your clothes at Bortman's?
00:20:02It's impressive. You've done quite a bit of research.
00:20:05A little.
00:20:07I think they hot off his cuffs. That's interesting.
00:20:10What about the negative side?
00:20:16You mean like a wife?
00:20:19I do have one.
00:20:25Every successful executive shoot?
00:20:38You ready? It's gonna be hot.
00:20:41Go ahead. Hit the door.
00:21:07Come on.
00:21:09Boys, we're having a lot of trouble holding this thing.
00:21:36Get those hose packs up there in a hurry.
00:21:38Move, move. Let's go.
00:21:43Battalion 1, this is Battalion 7. We need more help on the 18th floor.
00:21:47Battalion 7, Battalion 1. I'm sending three additional companies.
00:21:51Battalion 7, 10-4.
00:21:55Tom?
00:21:59The air conditioning is shoving heat and smoke into the upper floors.
00:22:02I'm gonna shut off the power.
00:22:04The guys are ragged from hauling stuff up the stairwell.
00:22:06I don't want those flames carried any higher.
00:22:08All right, then let me cut the power on the fire floor.
00:22:10That'll shut off the air conditioners and we'll still have power to the rest of the building.
00:22:13All right, try it. If those flames jump any higher, I'm cutting the power to everything.
00:22:16Go on.
00:22:20Oh, thank you.
00:22:22Excuse me.
00:22:24Well, I find that I can work better with things around me that I'm comfortable with.
00:22:28Probably going to call some gorgeous number.
00:22:31Leonard?
00:22:37That's beautiful.
00:22:38Yes, it's nicely bound.
00:22:41Might be too obvious.
00:22:45You're worried about our boss over there. I think he's pretty well occupied.
00:22:53Go on.
00:23:02Have you ever seen the boardroom?
00:23:04No.
00:23:05We have some very rare volumes in there.
00:23:31It must be where all the big decisions are made.
00:23:58Some of them.
00:24:01I didn't want to do that for a long time.
00:24:30Yeah, I know.
00:24:32So have I.
00:24:39I'm an officer.
00:24:41Yeah.
00:24:42Remember?
00:24:45I don't want it to be like that.
00:24:47Oh, hey. Relax.
00:24:51Don't you like me?
00:24:53I do.
00:25:00Oh.
00:25:14Should I apologize?
00:25:18Who are all these important looking gentlemen?
00:25:22Past members of the board of directors.
00:25:25I don't see your picture.
00:25:28I'm not dead yet.
00:25:36It won't be that easy.
00:25:42I'm not too sure I even wanted it to be.
00:26:06Hey.
00:26:09We got him.
00:26:12Look, why don't you kids give us a break and you play by yourself, okay?
00:26:16Hey, why don't you go ride your bike?
00:26:18Okay, let's have a race.
00:26:21I think I'm getting too old for this.
00:26:24You probably are over the hill.
00:26:26As a matter of fact, you're definitely over the hill.
00:26:28Listen, my friend, in case you're interested, ladies over 35 are over the hill.
00:26:33Is that what they are?
00:26:38I know how you enjoy your Sundays with the kids.
00:26:41Without me pushing you into the kitchen.
00:26:44Are you kidding?
00:26:45The kids are crazy about you.
00:26:49I know.
00:26:51I just thought that it would be easier to talk and relax.
00:26:58I'm relaxed.
00:27:05I had it all figured out, the way I was going to tell you.
00:27:14You had what all figured out?
00:27:21Him, I'm pregnant.
00:27:25Of what?
00:27:29You can call me stupid or dumb or whatever.
00:27:34It's just that I didn't get on the pill when I should have.
00:27:39Are you sure you're pregnant?
00:27:42I'm sure.
00:27:44That's great.
00:27:46That is just great.
00:27:48What do we do now?
00:27:52We can discuss it.
00:27:56I can think of a couple of possibilities right off.
00:28:01Like what?
00:28:07Well, abortion is a lot easier now.
00:28:18We could just get married and have the baby.
00:28:23What about Kathy and Paul?
00:28:25What about them?
00:28:27They're part of you, aren't they?
00:28:31I mean, well, it is kind of a package deal.
00:28:37Sure.
00:28:38I'll just tell them their daddy made a slight bedroom mistake and had to get married.
00:28:50Is that what it is, Jim?
00:28:55A mistake?
00:28:59I've got to think about it.
00:29:03It's all I can say to you.
00:29:08I've got to think about it.
00:29:11I've got to think about it.
00:29:26I've got to think about it.
00:29:32I've got to think about it.
00:29:40I've got to think about it.
00:30:01I'm qualified.
00:30:03Find a questionable choice for this position.
00:30:05I've got 12 years with this company.
00:30:07Mr. Foster.
00:30:08You know what I could do?
00:30:09Try to wipe me out 12 years like that
00:30:19Go back around the other way and I'll meet you in the office
00:30:27Put it back you don't even understand. You're just a kid didn't mean anything. Mr. Foster
00:30:33I'm
00:30:35Sorry to judge it just it was a surprise everybody said about me in this letter
00:30:41What did he say about you Howie?
00:30:45You were aware of Bella around your neck Kelly didn't mean to her up to that
00:30:50It's getting late. I
00:30:52Better go home. I I promised myself
00:30:55Good night
00:31:03What's your secret man, I've been working on it for two months, maybe you're just too subtle
00:31:09All my business but
00:31:12Took a big chance. I did. Yeah, I think if Oberlin found you
00:31:17Poking around in the confidential files. He'd probably fire you right on the spot
00:31:21probably
00:31:24Yeah, but I wouldn't worry about Kelly he won't find out
00:31:28Unless somebody tells him
00:31:31Why should I tell him?
00:31:33Exactly why should you?
00:32:03I
00:32:33I
00:33:03I
00:33:17Was looking for a friend's car, I thought it might be parked here. Did you see it? Well, it doesn't really matter
00:33:22I thought my friend might be visiting a tenant of yours, but he doesn't seem to be in
00:33:27Well, you tell me the tennis name. Maybe I can help
00:33:30Darlene Porter. Oh, that's Darlene's parking store right down there number 43
00:33:36Don't think she's here though. Of course. She usually parks her car on the street every night. Anyway
00:33:41Saves her parking space for her visitors
00:33:45Yes, I imagine she would
00:33:50Guess you heard about the big fire they're having same building where Darlene works. She's probably still down there watching
00:33:55Thank you
00:34:25I
00:34:55I
00:34:57I couldn't get through couldn't get through there must be something an air-conditioning

00:35:32What would you like me to do call up a miracle from the chairman of the board?
00:35:35Hey, what happened? Let me help. That's all right. I've got that's I've got it
00:35:39Hey look Dan, you know what I said before I did. Okay. I didn't mean that. I was just kind of edgy
00:35:45Hey, you know the boss damn whatever you say goes, you know that I'm a company man down company man all the way now
00:35:50You know that don't you Dan?
00:35:52You're bucking for a raise Howard, this is a bad time for it

00:38:38One of us got to find a way to get out of the floor below go for help Wow
00:38:43Those fire doors are open all the way down. This is the only one that's locked up here because of that robbery
00:38:50Here hold that
00:38:56Over here by the wall sweep that ceiling. I'll cool it down
00:39:03No shots on that wall not gonna fire it on the board spread
00:39:09Don't have any more in here start a flash over
00:39:17Call master see if you get more pressure
00:39:26Oh
00:39:56I
00:40:09Think I think he's
00:40:27These doors would be easier to open there's got to be a lever back. Yeah
00:40:31Yes, leave it back. Hello
00:40:34Can't climb down. I need a rope
00:40:39Maybe we could use a fire hose in the hall
00:40:43Not me
00:40:44One of us got to do it. Oh, it's impossible. Can't could do that. Oh wait, what for are you kidding?
00:40:51It's crazy dad. Thanks crazy. No one of us has just got to do it
00:40:57Come on it won't work that
00:41:16There we go
00:41:19Hey, you realize that it's a half-hour past bedtime for a couple of kids I know
00:41:24Put up please daddy. Nope. You see Santa can't make any deliveries if you two are still up when he gets here
00:41:32Off the bed. Okay. Good night
00:41:36Daddy my baby. Why doesn't he come to see us anymore?
00:41:42He's been busy I guess I
00:41:45Thought she's gonna spend Christmas with it
00:41:47Yeah, that would have been nice for you
00:41:50But I guess she made up the plan
00:41:52I guess she made other plans now
00:42:22I
00:42:52Getting worse
00:43:02All right
00:43:04We're on the top floor
00:43:07Whatever is below us is catching up to us by the minute
00:43:12Climbing up to us I
00:43:14See that we got to make a choice
00:43:18Hey
00:43:20We can wait here like frightened animals cringing in a corner until we're dead from suffocation
00:43:27Or beating we can try to save ourselves
00:43:40Those women back there in the dark watching ginger bleed to death they're waiting for us to do something
00:43:51All right, I'll ask you one more time then I'll join you and we can all roll over and play dead only won't be playing now
00:44:00What are we going to do
00:44:10Cool
00:44:13You're always in charge
00:44:15You're always in charge
00:44:18Why should you always make the decisions you can take charge Kelly? I don't want the job
00:44:22You tell me what to do and I'll do it
00:44:27Which one of us
00:44:32All right, I'll try it
00:44:38You realize I may not be able to open that door with just one good hand
00:44:43They grew up gesture
00:44:47Cop out you want to go along for a free ride
00:44:57They're impressive Kelly
00:44:59Like keen analytical judgments, don't you get all facts works nearly all the time winning formula
00:45:07So
00:45:09Call taking your best shot
00:45:12All right. Let's see some of that clear concise logic
00:45:17Who's the best man for the job?
00:45:20Go on evaluate
00:45:22Who is it between you and Howard and me?
00:45:25This is not a sales meeting man
00:45:27You're not gonna run over me
00:45:28Which one has the best chance of getting that floor down below and going for help man with two good hands or one
00:45:36That's right, that's right, it's gotta be you and me Kelly we gotta go help we got to do something
00:45:49Toss the coin, okay
00:46:07You
00:46:12Yes
00:46:15Loser be a hero
00:46:18Think about how
00:46:21You can get a nice letter for the files
00:46:24We're something in Howie
00:46:27files
00:46:37Tales
00:47:02You didn't have to come to the most expensive party
00:47:05You didn't have to come to the most expensive restaurant in town dad
00:47:08It's all gay bar. Can I take my beautiful daughter to a nice place and show her off?
00:47:12Whatever you want. We don't get to see enough of each other these days. I guess not. So we'll celebrate
00:47:20No, thanks, I
00:47:22Mean, I don't want anything to drink. Oh
00:47:25Sure, you're right. I mean father's not supposed to booze it up with his own kid. I'm old enough dad if I wanted a drink
00:47:34Yeah, you're gonna be pretty big
00:47:3727 nothing
00:47:53I'm up for a promotion. It's a big job assistant manager of the Eastern Division. What do you think you're old man now?
00:48:04Of course we're still dickering about money, but I got the top brass on my side
00:48:07After all, I'm a senior man with a company that carries a lot of weight
00:48:15You must really like that wine oh
00:48:18Well, I'm trying to cut down on the hard stuff, you know since your mother's been gone
00:48:24There's no problem with this anyway
00:48:26Matter of fact, I'm thinking of adding a wine cellar to the house. No, that's the in thing to do these days
00:48:33You make it sound like mother's dead. She's not gone. You're only separated
00:48:39Only boy now that's a word for you
00:48:42I just wanted you to understand how it sounded that
00:48:44Well, we're a team anyway, you and me Kathy
00:48:47You know, I was thinking about that just last week we've got to get together and go somewhere and do something really fun
00:48:52I'd maybe take a trip to Europe first-class the whole works. Would you like to do that Kathy?
00:48:57Yes, I'd like that
00:49:00Well, let's go one of those old cruise ships
00:49:04You cry what's wrong what's wrong what did I say?
00:49:08I don't tell me nothing
00:49:12I
00:49:14Think
00:49:16Don't tell me nothing you're old man. We level with each other. What is it Kathy?
00:49:21Dad, you always keep doing this
00:49:24Doing what the promises the fantasies? That's why mother left. Don't you see?
00:49:30It's always another big deal or a new promotion or a scheme that never happens
00:49:35It doesn't matter any of it. You're what matters. Listen, Kathy. You're just like kids. You say you don't understand
00:49:42When I make a promise I do my best to keep it that's why it must hurt you so much when you can't
00:49:48Country's in a recession sales are off everywhere. I try to explain that to your mother if you don't either one
00:49:52Have you had any sense of business?
00:49:56As soon as I get the promotion
00:49:58Things will change. She'll come home and dad. You've got to let us love you for what you are
00:50:02Not what you pretend to be, please
00:50:11So
00:50:42Slowly
00:50:52Slowly now very slow
00:50:59Easy all right, hold it
00:51:02Easy
00:51:07I can't hold on much longer. You can take Howard's place Howard. Don't let me go. Please don't let me go
00:51:18Can you can you get to the door
00:51:23About about two feet away
00:51:29Let's go now slowly
00:51:31Good
00:51:34Easy
00:51:41How's it going Howard
00:51:46Howard
00:51:50I can't reach it
00:51:53Get a hold of the door grab onto the lever
00:51:58That leave is over on the right there
00:52:02I'm hanging in the middle. Can you slide me over a little?
00:52:14Can you open the door
00:52:19No, I
00:52:22Can't no I can't get it open yet a little more
00:52:27They can't do it. He's got to do it. Let it out. Let it out now. He's
00:52:32He's got to do it
00:52:35Now hold it there you see that lever
00:52:54You got it
00:53:02Oh
00:53:21I think i'm
00:53:31So
00:53:50Good
00:54:01So
00:54:31Men remember that we still had some hose packs in the disabled elevator. So we had to force the doors open
00:54:47It happened sometime after we cut power
00:54:51Guard told us there was nobody else in the building
00:54:55Come on
00:54:57The discovery of a body in the elevator shaft adds yet another grim complication to this christmas eve tragedy
00:55:03The victim has tentatively been identified as an employee of the kendrick industries, which we understand occupies the top five floors of the whitney towers
00:55:12The fire department now faces the possibility that there may be other people still trapped inside the building
00:55:27So
00:55:46He didn't know ago
00:55:49It's my fault he's dead
00:55:52He's dead. Come on kelly. Yeah killed
00:55:56He killed hallie
00:55:59Who made him let him go
00:56:03What difference does it make now
00:56:26A
00:56:28Fire department helicopter is just landing to pick up a paramedic rescue team
00:56:33Chief packer has ordered an emergency search of the building from the roof down to the fire
00:56:42As you can see the rescue team is loading equipment aboard the helicopter they should be taking off momentarily
00:56:55Yes
00:57:00In here in here
00:57:20You take that you guys we're gonna move into this west road, okay. Okay. Be careful
00:57:26So
00:57:51Hey, hey look out it's sweeping around behind
00:57:56Me
00:58:09Running over there
00:58:25So
00:58:42Uh
00:58:55So
00:59:02He's over there over there
00:59:09Where are those other guys
00:59:15Keep hope burn through that's all she wrote
00:59:17So
00:59:23This line can get you big enough we need a two and a half
00:59:26Yeah
00:59:41Help help us. Where are you? Where are you? We're over here this way
00:59:47Hey
01:00:03All right stick with it do what you can i'll get help up right away

01:00:16We've got a collapsed wall with men buried under it take some pike poles and a k-12 up there right away hurry
01:00:2210-4
01:00:24Paramedic
01:00:25Where are you? This is one paramedics. Where are you? This is one battalion one
01:00:28We're on 33 north of the main utility shaft
01:00:32Get up to 36 right away report to captain jones. We've got some men buried up there. I'll send up air bottles. Hurry
01:00:40I'm here
01:00:46So
01:01:01Why can't you do something
01:01:09But it won't change anything
01:01:16I'm sorry
01:01:25Why did you do it though, why did you bring that out?
01:01:31I thought somehow it might please you
01:01:43Well, how nice
01:01:46I thought for some obscure reason that hanging benji's stocking with care might make things a little happier around here
01:01:54Don't you remember how he always used to go to the stocking first stop it
01:01:57Oh, I could see this is going to be a wonderful christmas
01:02:03All right, let's talk about it again never mind I said let's go me dad now what about last month
01:02:09a picture of benji at that summer camp and before that
01:02:12A relaxing evening with a stamp collection. Oh, it's got to stop benji seems to be the only thing we have in common these days
01:02:19In fact, I think he probably was the only thing we ever had that kept us together and we made a mistake
01:02:23Well, obviously since we can't even talk about our own son anymore
01:02:27Benji is dead. Thelma. He's been dead for six months
01:02:42Oh, i'm sorry, i'm very sorry
01:02:54I'm sorry
01:03:04So sorry
01:03:12So
01:03:38Get back get back
01:03:42So
01:04:00Fire is now completely out of control
01:04:03An attempt to stop it on the 36th floor has failed costing the life of one fireman and critically injuring several others
01:04:09If the rumor is true
01:04:11If there are still people on the upper floors
01:04:14There is grim doubt that they could survive the intense heat and smoke
01:04:18The fire department is still struggling desperately to stop the upper floors from being engulfed by flame
01:04:23But there doesn't seem to be much chance that they can do it
01:04:29Where are they nobody's gonna make it in here anyway
01:04:42So
01:04:46Here pull this line
01:04:52My hair my hair
01:04:58My hair
01:05:12So
01:05:33Get another line in here and more air bubbles
01:05:41So
01:05:43So
01:05:46So
01:06:08Now rescue this is one
01:06:10This air one go ahead
01:06:12After the drop get back in the air do a 360 around the building
01:06:16Use your spotlight check the window see if there's any sign of people in the building
01:06:40So
01:07:10So
01:07:32We can't hold it here careful careful, let's stay together
01:07:37Battalion one engine 45. We've lost the 38th floor. We're backing out. It's into the ceiling and going up the vents
01:08:03Search team, this is one. Can you read me?
01:08:07We're going down the stairwell from the roof and there's a lot of smoke up here
01:08:11Stay on monitor air rescue. They may need you fast
01:08:23You're not sure
01:08:36So
01:08:55They know we're here they know
01:09:06Help help me
01:09:26Here one the search team got some people on the top floor
01:09:36Middle windows looks like at least three uh, one man and two women
01:09:43Help us
01:09:49Help us
01:09:51Help

01:12:20Yes
01:12:33Hold it

01:13:23River chopper
01:13:31We'll only be able to take three on the first trip you stay here we'll take the ladies first, all right
01:13:49So
