"Foe" by South African-born Nobel laureate J. M. Coetzee was first published in 1986. The story has been inspired by the existing plot of Robinson Crusoe.

Susan Barton, a castaway, is the protagonist and narrator of the story. Susan happens to land on the same island that is inhabited by "Cruso" and Friday. Their adventures are already underway.
