Expedition: Day 2 Tues 23th Oct.
Just two of us set off for the Glen Dessary round of 3 Munros. Thick mist and heavy sacks hampered our speed, again. The navigation was painstaking, loosing us precious time.
After completing Sgurr nan Coireachan and Garbh Chioch Mor we ran out of time and abandoned the ascent of Sgurr na Ciche, descending a bealach to Mam na Cloich Airde to Sourlies. 8 hours on the hill. Darryl and Rob fed us tea, cake, soup and hot food until bedtime. That evening the barometer and the moon rose, and the stars came out.
Day 3 Weds 24th Oct.
A beautiful cloudless dawn for an incredible walk along the Sourlies coastline and estuary to Carnoch. Then the long steep grassy slopes onto the Meall Buidhe ridge. We enjoyed stunning views and weather all day; with excellent lighting in the hazy air. Arriving at the summit of Meall Buidhe for 1pm, we were a little concerned because Luinne Bheinn looked a LONG way away. Worried about darkness we cracked on and got down to Barisdsale with about 40 minutes of daylight left. 8 hours on the hill, but what a fantastic day. After finding the Barisdale farmer, we hired ‘The Stables’ self catering accommodation and purchased a huge sack of coal. What luxury after 2 days real bothying. We had a chilled out evening by our glowing coal fire, and eagerly anticipated our final day. Note: the Barisdale bothy has had its fire removed due to idiots smashing the furniture for firewood.
A fantastic day.
