Fashion designer Asmita Marwa used a mix of mirror work, shells and antique prints to bring forth a gypsy look in her creations, showcased Friday at the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) summer-resort 2013 here. Actress Shriya Saran turned up as the showstopper.
Shriya Saran walked down the ramp wearing a navy blue dress with a stylishly draped stole, with sketches of artist Vaikuntam's portraits. Her hair was tied up, and she even wore a bindi to complete her look.
Marwa's collection, titled Moon Magic, was based on the theme of a modern gypsy.
"My collections are on theme of modern gypsy. The line is very wearable. I have used various prints and worked a lot with mirror work, shells and antique prints," she said here.
Marwa says her collection was inspired by her meeting with a real life gypsy woman.
"I had met a gypsy woman, and there was something charming about her. She had put together a look of a gypsy clothes and accessories sourced from different countries. Something about her appealed to me and inspired me," said Marwah.
The contemporary look promoted by the designer is aimed at portraying women as strong individuals.
The collection was replete with fitted pants, kurtas, skirts, shirts with Vaikuntam's paintings, hand-quilted jackets with floral prints and stoles.
