The Delmarva Peninsula fox squirrel was one of the original species included on the Endangered Species list, but will be removed from that list next month.

According to the U.S. Department of the Interior, "The Delmarva Peninsula fox squirrel, one of the animals included on the first list of endangered species nearly a half century ago, is no longer at risk of extinction."
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will officially remove the squirrel from the Threatened and Endangered Wildlife list in December.
The Delmarva Peninsula fox squirrel is bigger than other squirrels and doesn't typically live in areas with much of a human presence.
