Korea unveils super-accurate clock
Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science has developed 'ytterbium atomic optical lattice clock' using pure Korean technologies. The latest development is a world-class super-accurate clock with an error of merely 0.92 seconds in 100 million years. It is the third time an atomic clock based on optical lattice technology has been developed after the U.S. and Japan. Ytterbium atomic optical lattice clock is more accurate than the cesium atomic clock currently used as the standard for time. We will find out why we need a super-accurate clock and look into the significance of the latest technology development.
