Ever notice how the Ketchup packets at McDonalds say "Fancy" on them? And think, "gee, that's a horrible oxymoron"? Us too! But now, the secret reasoning behind "Fancy Ketchup" is revealed!!

Turns out, it's about agricultural bureaucracy! Yay! Yes, Fancy ketchup is a technical term for a tomato product with a minimum of 33% (tomato) solids in it. Because nothing is fancier than tomato solids! So no, fancy ketchup doesn’t mean that french fries are appropriate white-tie dinner party fare. DARN IT!

Did you know that Fancy was a technical term? Do you think you could taste the difference between Fancy and not-fancy ketchup? Do you think McDonald's is Fancy? Do you think the term “fancy” should be reserved for foods with at least 33% champagne or caviar content?
