While Traveling in Transylvania, Washington Press Secretary Jack Whittier is attacked by an unseen beast. Upon his return to the Capital, Whittier transforms into a bloodthirsty werewolf and commits a series of grisly murders that terrorize the city. Police are convinced the killings are the work of a common criminal, and Jack’s spree of mayhem is blamed on racial unrest. When a full moon rises on the eve of a national address, Whittier bites the President in front of a horrified Chinese dignitary.
Taken as either a Horror spoof or political satire, Werewolf Of Washington draws on the paranoia of the Watergate scandal and the hipster humor of The Second City. Director/Writer Milton Moses Ginsberg was also responsible for 1969’s Warhol-esque underground Drama Coming Apart.

00:00:00That it could happen in America, that it could happen now, that it could ever happen to me.
00:00:27Jack Whittier is my name. Maybe you remember my byline.
00:00:37I was the youngest member of the Washington Press Corps, its fastest rising star.
00:00:45One of the best and brightest, as we used to say.
00:00:48Before so much blood passed under those pretty Potomac bridges.
00:01:06I was having an affair with the President's daughter and I wanted out.
00:01:11Without hurting her feelings or frankly my career.
00:01:15So I had my paper reassigned me to our bureau in Budapest.
00:01:32Somehow the President heard I was banished for being too pro-administration.
00:01:39And he offered me a job which I couldn't refuse.
00:01:44Which is where the terrible events that were to destroy my career and my life begin.
00:01:57A ball. It's silver. I found it in a little shop. I didn't think there were such things left.
00:02:08What's it for?
00:02:11You mean you don't know?
00:02:15Honest to God, Giselle, I'll have you in Washington within six weeks. I'll get you a visa. I'll get you a job.
00:02:22I don't want a job. A job with who? The FBI?
00:02:31Stop it, Giselle. Now will you come on?
00:02:40Come on.
00:02:41Come on.
00:03:07Hey, fella. What do you think you're doing?
00:03:09You're trying to get somebody killed. You ran me right into the tree.
00:03:12What are you doing standing here right in the middle of the road?
00:03:15Will you say something? What's the matter? Can't you speak English?
00:03:20Giselle, will you get back in the car? I've got to make it to the airport.
00:03:35I'm sorry, sir. I just... I lost my temper.
00:03:39But my car won't start and I have to catch a plane. It's very important.
00:03:43Do you know, is there a gas station around or someone that could help me?
00:03:55It won't start.
00:03:57Hey, mister. I really need help.
00:04:01How do you say help?
00:04:03Shaggy?
00:04:05Come on. Shaggy?
00:04:10Now, please. The only reason I'm asking you is because my car crashed because of him.
00:04:15Now, could you just give me a little help, please?
00:04:22I'm dying to hear this one.
00:04:27We can't leave. God damn it.
00:04:30I told you my car was stuck.
00:04:33Stuck over there by this...
00:04:40Listen.
00:04:42It's because of him. It's all his fault. He ran me off the road.
00:04:46What are you afraid of? You don't have to go anywhere.
00:04:49I'm a million dollars worth of aid every year.
00:04:54What are you looking at? Will you quit looking at yourself?
00:05:03I wish I was religious. I'd pray in prayer right now.
00:05:07Hey! What's the matter with you?
00:05:15Hey! Hold on a second, will you?
00:05:23There's got to be a house down that road where I can get a phone.
00:05:26Just wait for when he hears his own.
00:05:28Leave the headlights on, okay?
00:05:37There, there. Over there?
00:05:40Yes, over there.
00:05:42Fine. Is it far?
00:05:44Yes.
00:05:46Yes, it is far.
00:05:48How far?
00:05:50Not too much.
00:05:52Oh, good. I can walk.
00:05:54No, not tonight. Come in.
00:05:56Do you know what time the departure schedule of the train?
00:06:00Moon, moon.
00:06:02Come in.
00:06:03Moon, moon.
00:06:05Come in.
00:06:07Not tonight.
00:06:09Thank you very much. I'm in a hurry.
00:06:13What are you afraid of?
00:06:21Giselle!
00:06:23Giselle!
00:06:33Giselle!
00:07:03Giselle!
00:07:33Giselle!
00:07:58And so it must have been a wolf.
00:08:01He could find no corpse.
00:08:03Oh, come on.
00:08:05I killed a man and I killed him with this thing.
00:08:08You said it was an accident, my boy.
00:08:10It was an accident.
00:08:12But are you going to just take my word for it?
00:08:14Aren't you going to detain me?
00:08:16The inspector has offered us his car and the driver.
00:08:21What's going on here?
00:08:23This country is crawling with bureaucrats.
00:08:25Where are they? Why aren't they here questioning us?
00:08:27Jack, they are willing to let go us.
00:08:30Let go.
00:08:32What are you trying to cover up?
00:08:34Is the White House behind this?
00:08:36The what house? The White House.
00:08:38It's easy. You don't even know what you're seeing.
00:08:42Hey, spiritual.
00:08:44Yes, please.
00:08:46What did she say?
00:08:48She said you are feverish because of the war.
00:08:52I'm afraid I must ask you to leave the area at once.
00:08:55I tell you again, no one has been reported missing.
00:08:59No corpse has been found.
00:09:01If you continue to make a nuisance of yourself,
00:09:03I'll have you locked up.
00:09:05How come you speak English?
00:09:32That was your son that I killed, wasn't it?
00:09:46Yes, that was your son.
00:09:49And you don't even care that I killed him.
00:10:01She says you didn't kill him, you released him, he needed to die, he longed to rest.
00:10:15Because of the communists, secret police?
00:10:18The dark, the pentagram.
00:10:23Because of the sign of the pentagram.
00:10:28The pentagram is behind all of this.
00:10:31The pentagram, the mark of the beast.
00:10:35Beast.
00:10:36Oh, that's just a bunch of insanity.
00:10:46Whoever is bitten by a werewolf and lives, becomes a werewolf himself.
00:10:53A bull.
00:10:55Find out who she's working for.
00:10:58The boy bit you, didn't he?
00:11:05Yes, damn it.
00:11:09Wear this charm over your heart always.
00:11:20And remember, a werewolf can only be killed with a silver bullet or a stick with a silver
00:11:31handle.
00:11:32Heaven help you, my son.
00:11:39Heaven help you, my son.
00:12:09Jack.
00:12:38Jack.
00:12:39Jack.
00:12:40Jack.
00:12:41Jack.

00:13:27Jack.
00:13:28Jack.
00:13:29Jack.
00:13:30Jack.
00:13:31Jack.
00:13:33Good to see you, Jack.
00:13:34Mr. President.
00:13:35You're looking fine.
00:13:36Just fine.
00:13:37Uh, settle it any way you want.
00:13:39But, uh, just make sure it doesn't fall back on my lap or the Attorney General's.
00:13:44How's your flight, Jack?
00:13:46I mean, I think Washington is gonna be quite a dumb down in many ways.
00:13:52I'm gonna have to sell my stone.
00:13:54Why, you...
00:13:55Even though you're my press aid, your job will deal mainly with the justice department.
00:14:01Department. The Attorney General is just too honest for his own good. Need to help
00:14:08restore his image with the press. It also deal with the Captry nomination.
00:14:17Especially the Captry nomination. Have you met Mrs. Captry? Doesn't matter. If
00:14:24Elliot loses the nomination, we'll just be mighty happy to stay home and make money, won't we?
00:14:30No, sir. She's gonna be a problem. How do you tell a man to dump his wife for the
00:14:37good of his country? Anyway, I want to restore some balance on the court.
00:14:47I mean, if there's a Southerner, we could give them a sense of belonging down there.
00:14:54God damn it, you know what I mean, Jack. I think I do, sir, yes.
00:14:59Well, that's all the speech I have for now, but we'll talk some more later.
00:15:07Have you seen Marion yet? I don't understand you young people.
00:15:17She's seeing a nice young man nowadays. You should get to know him. He's a
00:15:22psychiatrist, a naval psychiatrist. I think you'd like him. And Senator Baum does not
00:15:29represent the people of Maryland. Hello there, Mr. President. You know, I was just
00:15:36telling the Attorney General here, that Senator Baum, oh, he makes me so sick. I just can't stand it.
00:15:43Mrs. Captry, I'm sure your husband doesn't even feel that strongly about it. Thank you, Mr.
00:15:48President. Jack, you see the kind of problems we have here. Judge, I want you to meet Jack
00:15:55Whittier, the new Assistant Press Secretary. How do you do? Mrs. Captry. Oh, is he the Jewish
00:16:02young man that you hired to muggle me? You look smart. I'm going to excuse myself now.
00:16:14He died now, Mr. President. Oh, Marion. Hello, Jack. My, that Marion's such a lovely girl. Did the Washington Times really send you to Siberia? And the truth to her, Mr. Whittier?
00:16:32I was hungry. What? Hungry. Come on, Margie, I think it's time we left for home. Oh, no, Elliot, honey.
00:16:39Well, why don't you run along like you always do? I'm sure this nice young man will see me home, won't you, honey?
00:16:45I think your father's a cross between Abraham Lincoln and Jesus Christ.
00:17:03I'm engaged to be married, Jack. Already? To that psychiatrist guy?
00:17:34Mrs. Captry, any time you're ready. No, I'm just having a little more for the road. Oh, you know, any time you have people marching in the streets or just catering to a revolution, you know what my husband says?
00:17:53Well, my husband says many times that he actually prefers some of them Russian communists against the liberal columnists in this country. What's the matter with my hand? Oh, my goodness, my lad, Jack. You're just a terrible fool, aren't you?
00:18:23Marianne and I are leaving. I thought I'd come over and say good evening to you, Jack. Why don't you come in and talk to me sometime, Jack? We'll have a talk, huh? All right, sure.
00:18:51Now, where were we? Where were we? We were saying something about the...
00:19:51I watched the damn thing myself. They didn't even have a station break. And this prejudiced, hostile critic is the commentator they put on.
00:20:20Right after the president's address about Captry. Well, I have the network's word. They're going to bury this guy someplace. What do you mean? Give him an axe. Drop it. You're kidding. No. The president is fed up with this guy's facial expressions and gestures.
00:20:42We've got some friends there. It's the other networks I'm worried about. Here, take a look at the speech the vice president's going to read tomorrow night.
00:21:04We are going to war against the networks, Jack. We're going to win back the minds and hearts of the American people. And we have got to have Captry on that court to win the fight or we're in trouble.
00:21:18Well, you understand. Look, Jack, there's a line in there, trouble with something about the views of a small group. How does small strike you? That's a little soft. What would you call your compatriots in the press if you wanted to be a little more flashy?
00:21:37Let's see. At their worst, a coterie of impudent snobs. No, I mean really. That's good. That's great. We'll use it. You're kidding. No. It's just what we want.
00:21:56Look, the man told me to give you a draft of the speech and listen to your suggestions on it. Now I know why. I want you to spice it up a bit, huh? Well, I don't know. I mean, I wouldn't use that line that I just suggested.
00:22:13Why not? That is exactly what we want.
00:22:20And not now.
00:22:22Yeah.
00:22:28My God. What's this country coming to?
00:22:36Mrs. Captry was just found dead.
00:22:45Guts rip it open.
00:22:51Oh.
00:22:52Oh.
00:22:54Oh.
00:23:20Have you been?
00:23:23I guess I asked that last night.
00:23:26Yeah, I guess you did.
00:23:30Gee, I haven't been in the White House in a long time.
00:23:36Well, not everyone gets to see all of the White House, Jack.
00:23:44I'm supposed to meet with your father.
00:23:49It's really awful about Mrs. Captry, isn't it?
00:23:53And those shoes they found, that's weird.
00:23:58Shoes.
00:24:01But, uh, Marian, the president's waiting for me. I'd better not keep him.
00:24:14Hasn't Judge Captry asked that his nomination be withdrawn because of this horrible tragedy?
00:24:20Well, I've asked him not to make that request.
00:24:23Frankly, I don't want his name withdrawn.
00:24:26The current permissive trends continue in this country.
00:24:30I'm worried about national anarchy.
00:24:34Andrea, you and I, we don't see eye to eye about those things.
00:24:39Never asked for your support, and I've never received it.
00:24:50But if your paper could change its position, it would swing the nomination for him.
00:25:00I'll think about it, Mr. President.
00:25:03Good.
00:25:05I'm sorry to have kept you here so late.
00:25:09Oh, by the way, I've asked the FCC to act as quickly as possible upon that application.
00:25:15No matter what position you take.
00:25:16After all, I do owe you a favor.
00:25:21If you hadn't banished Jack here to Budapest, I wouldn't have a new assistant press secretary.
00:25:29All right, forgive me, darling.
00:25:31Mr. President, we didn't banish Jack.
00:25:34I begged him to stay here, didn't I, Jack?
00:25:37He requested the transfer for personal reasons, and he's welcome to come back anytime.
00:25:51Jack.
00:25:54I'm sorry.
00:25:56I have to go, Mr. President. I'll see you tomorrow.
00:26:01I'll leave with Jack.
00:26:02No, I mean I'll stay here with you, Mr. President.
00:26:06I'll think it over, Mr. President. I may surprise you.
00:26:10Thank you, Andrea.
00:26:11Good night.
00:26:12Good night.
00:26:13Good night, Jack.
00:26:14Good night.
00:26:18Jack! Jack!
00:26:22Jack, I think I could be your friend, Jack.
00:26:26If you could just accept that.
00:26:29I'd like to be.
00:26:33You don't look well, Jack.
00:26:36Jack!
00:26:38Don't wait for me there, Marian. Wait for me in your room.
00:26:42Go away now!
00:26:46Jack!
00:26:51Jack!
00:27:05Jack!
00:27:36Jack!
00:27:48Hello?
00:27:51Hello?
00:28:05Jack!
00:28:35It's a werewolf.
00:28:36A weird wolf.
00:28:38A werewolf.
00:28:39Werewolf.
00:28:41Can you imagine what would happen if the press got hold of that?
00:28:43I think the kid did it himself.
00:28:46He looks like he could sever a jugular.
00:28:48Well, I don't think the kid did it.
00:28:50No, maybe he did do it.
00:28:52His obvious hatred of female authority.
00:28:55He's a womanizer.
00:28:56He's a womanizer.
00:28:57He's a womanizer.
00:28:58He's a womanizer.
00:28:59He's a womanizer.
00:29:00He's a womanizer.
00:29:01He's a womanizer.
00:29:02He's a womanizer.
00:29:03He's a womanizer.
00:29:04His hatred of female authority figures, the expression he keeps using.
00:29:06The expression he keeps using.
00:29:07Mother.
00:29:08He fits the pattern of the crimes.
00:29:10Prominent middle-aged women found near national monuments.
00:29:12He fits the pattern of the crimes.
00:29:14I don't think the kid did it.
00:29:15You're the wizkid. You keep him from the press.
00:29:23Hi, how are you?
00:29:25Could you just tell me exactly what you saw?
00:29:28Look, we just saw this figure running away.
00:29:32A figure running away...
00:29:33Was it a man, or a woman, or was it light, or dark?
00:29:39Was it light or dark?
00:29:40It was too dark to tell.
00:29:44I think it was dark, wasn't it?
00:29:46This figure was dark.
00:29:47All right, it was dark, it was very dark.
00:29:48Debbie, Debbie, just be cool.
00:29:49A black man.
00:29:51And, uh, it was a whale, a few racist pigs.
00:29:54Just one minute, sir!
00:29:55Don't point your finger at me!
00:29:57Who are you talking to?
00:29:58I'm talking to you, that's who!
00:29:59Take it easy, take it easy.
00:30:00Look, we didn't do anything.
00:30:01Take it easy.
00:30:02Could you, could you kids tell me, uh,
00:30:04something more detailed about this running figure?
00:30:07Uh, it was hairy, it walked funny.
00:30:10Uh-huh.
00:30:11The Panthers!
00:30:13How do you know it's the Panthers?
00:30:15I know it!
00:30:16Book them! Book them!
00:30:17Wait a minute, what for?
00:30:18Narcotics!
00:30:19Oh, no, wait a minute, listen.
00:30:26Uh, where are you kids staying?
00:30:28The Chevrolet Hilton.
00:30:30The what?
00:30:32The big bus on the mall.
00:30:34I'm just trying to help you.
00:30:36Uh, we're gonna assign an FBI agent
00:30:38to keep you under surveillance,
00:30:39or else we're gonna have to lock you up.
00:30:42Oh, wow, man!
00:30:45Yes, thank you.
00:30:52Well, sir, do you have any leads?
00:30:53I mean, this is the second murder
00:30:54of a national figure in two days.
00:30:56Are you sure you have enough manpower to trap the killer?
00:30:59I mean, your boys seem to be busy with the networks.
00:31:01Let me tell you something.
00:31:02None of this would have happened
00:31:04if you people didn't support the very elements
00:31:06in our society that did this.
00:31:08Easy, man, easy.
00:31:09Don't let them get to you.
00:31:10How do you know that we support the elements
00:31:12when you don't have one single lead?
00:31:14We do have a suspect,
00:31:16and an indictment is imminent.
00:31:18Sir, I must insist that you stop talking to these people!
00:31:21Does imminent mean today, tomorrow,
00:31:24or indefinitely, sir?
00:31:25Imminent means tomorrow morning, 9 o'clock!
00:31:28I'm sorry, sir!
00:31:29And won't you bleeding hearts be surprised?
00:31:32He doesn't have one indictment.
00:31:33He's too busy investigating us.
00:31:35You see?
00:31:36See?
00:31:37Jack!
00:31:39Jack!
00:32:00Jack!
00:32:19This is another one of our washrooms.
00:32:22I don't suppose you astronauts have anything
00:32:25disconvenient on the left?
00:32:27No, sir.
00:32:28I guess not.
00:32:31I understand that the three of you
00:32:34are cooping up one of these for...
00:32:37How long is that?
00:32:38It's about two weeks altogether, sir.
00:32:40Two weeks.
00:32:42Sir, do you mind if I...
00:32:44No, no, no, you're all right.
00:32:49I was a little sick at work.
00:32:51Oh, yeah? Let me give you a hand.
00:32:56That's strange.
00:32:57That's all right, sir, I'll use this one.
00:32:59No, no, no, that's no point.
00:33:03I saw just...
00:33:05Nobody in there.
00:33:10I'll just reach down under and get the latch for you.
00:33:14Sir, I'll do it just a second.
00:33:16No, no, no, no.
00:33:18Just go about your business.
00:33:21I'll get the janitor to look into that.
00:33:27You know, it's odd.
00:33:28We get one of you fellas up on the moon,
00:33:31but when it comes to fixing a little latch like that,
00:33:34we're just all thumbs.
00:33:36Okay, this is Remington I want to show you out here.
00:33:39The plaque was given to me with an ancient sheet
00:33:41a few years back.
00:33:43There it is.
00:33:44Oh, just hold it there.
00:33:48Don't want to forget this.
00:33:50Two weeks.
00:33:51There you are.
00:33:55That's three or two weeks, you would have had.
00:33:58Two weeks.
00:33:59Two weeks.
00:34:00I'm afraid I'll have to take you to the doctor.
00:34:02You know, I want you to rest.
00:34:05I'm afraid I'll have to take you to the doctor.
00:34:07I'm afraid I'll have to take you to the doctor.
00:34:09I'm afraid I'll have to take you to the doctor.
00:34:11How long did you order that for?
00:34:13Two weeks.
00:34:35Jack, I can only give you a minute,
00:34:38but I'd like you to stay and see the Senator.
00:34:48Mr. President, I'm not feeling very well.
00:34:52Do you think you might want to find someone to replace me?
00:34:56You mean right now?
00:34:58Sure, go ahead, take a nap, Jack.
00:35:01No, I mean generally.
00:35:04Come on, Jack, you're doing a fine job.
00:35:07You're indispensable to me. I need you now more than ever.
00:35:10It's about those shoes, sir.
00:35:12Shoes?
00:35:14What shoes?
00:35:16Jack, would you please stop scratching the palms of your hands?
00:35:19It's just not manly.
00:35:24It's about the murders, sir.
00:35:26I don't believe that the Panthers did them.
00:35:29Well, there hasn't been a murder since we put a guard on that black boy.
00:35:33But the moon hasn't risen yet. Put a guard on me.
00:35:37Damn that mob out there.
00:35:43Hello, Jack.
00:35:44What is the meaning of this?
00:35:46That speech you wrote last night was just great.
00:35:49The networks, they don't know what hit them.
00:35:51And it's all because of you.
00:35:52I want to assign you full time to writing speeches for the Vice President.
00:35:56Mr. President, I think...
00:36:00I mean...
00:36:03I think I'm...
00:36:05I think I'm bewildered.
00:36:07You're a senator, Mr. President.
00:36:08What?
00:36:10Speak up, goddammit, I can't hear you.
00:36:12Senator, Mr. President.
00:36:13Senator in.
00:36:19Hello, Jack.
00:36:22We all get disturbed at some time or another over some damn little thing.
00:36:26But I won't hear of you leaving the team until you've had a chat with Commander Samson.
00:36:31All right?
00:36:32Mr. President, hello.
00:36:33Oh, John.
00:36:35Good to see you.
00:36:36Come in, come in.
00:37:04I'm a murderer.
00:37:07I killed someone last night.
00:37:11Dr. Salmon, do you believe that a man can change into an animal?
00:37:17An animal?
00:37:18Have you ever heard of the Mark of the Beast?
00:37:21What?
00:37:22There's a curse on me.
00:37:24I was bitten by a wolf.
00:37:26And it wasn't a wolf.
00:37:28Only it wasn't a wolf.
00:37:30It was a werewolf.
00:37:33And now when the full moon rises, I change into an animal.
00:37:38With only one desire, the desire to kill.
00:37:41Oh, Jack, really? A werewolf?
00:37:49Well, what about my blackouts?
00:37:51And my scar? And my finger?
00:37:54And what about those shoes?
00:37:55I think you're in trouble, Jack, but not the kind of trouble you think you are.
00:37:58What about my seeing the sign of a pentagram?
00:38:01Well, sometimes we see our conflicts in terms of political symbols.
00:38:05What's politics got to do with this?
00:38:07Well, what does the Pentagon have to do with it?
00:38:09The pentagram.
00:38:10Gentlemen.
00:38:11The five-pointed star.
00:38:12We can get a word at dinner now.
00:38:14Would you come to the bathroom with me?
00:38:15Later, sir.
00:38:17Please.
00:38:18Would you come with me to the bathroom?
00:38:20Later.
00:38:21Later, please.
00:38:24I want to show you something.
00:38:27It's over here.
00:38:28It's on my chest.
00:38:31Ah.
00:38:44Jack.
00:38:45I'm going to talk about your symptoms now, but they're not very hard to explain.
00:38:49Now, you feel guilty because you were with both of these women when they were killed.
00:38:52And you don't think that in itself is strange?
00:38:55And you have the feeling that you could have done something to stop it,
00:38:58coupled with guilt feelings for having murderous...
00:39:02Well, look at this.
00:39:04Guilt feelings for having murderous wishes towards these women
00:39:07for evil reasons, for both of which you want to be punished.
00:39:10Will you look at this?
00:39:18So?
00:39:19I saw this in the palm of each of my victims.
00:39:23Jack.
00:39:24I want to help you.
00:39:26Well, then lock me up.
00:39:27Come over to the hospital tomorrow, and we'll talk it over.
00:39:29But someone's going to die tonight!
00:39:31Will you two faggots shut up?
00:39:33Now, Jack, I cannot help you unless you really want me to help you.
00:39:36Now, remember what I told you.
00:39:49Jack.
00:40:14Jack Whitter, you're on the line for Cliff Mapes.
00:40:17Cliff?
00:40:19Jack, fine.
00:40:21A little favor.
00:40:23Look, who would I talk to over there
00:40:26to find out if someone from Budapest is a red dart?
00:40:31Maybe Chinese.

00:41:13A high angel.
00:41:16Dr. Salmon?
00:41:17Yes, I did.
00:41:25Now he has me thinking that
00:41:28whatever was bothering me was all in my mind.
00:41:33No.
00:41:34No, that's just between me and my analyst.
00:41:47Yeah, fitting all the pieces together.
00:41:50Beginning to think that while I was in Budapest
00:41:54No.
00:41:56I was brainwashed or something.
00:42:00Yeah, to cover up some political activities here.
00:42:04Assassinations.
00:42:07No.
00:42:12What?
00:42:17You want to come over here?
00:42:20Tonight?
00:42:22Sure.
00:42:25I just hope your secret service man never publishes a book.
00:42:46Sure.

00:50:01I'm sorry.
00:50:02I'm sorry.
00:50:03I would like to make one thing perfectly clear.
00:50:10The...
00:50:13The vice president...
00:50:17does not clear his speeches with me.
00:50:22Mr. President!
00:50:34Is the conference over?
00:50:38No.
00:50:40I just had to leave.
00:50:44You know, I tried calling you last night after you hung up.
00:50:49Where were you?
00:50:52Did you?
00:50:55Or was I?
00:51:00I don't know.
00:51:02Jack, I'm sorry to interrupt,
00:51:04but that, uh, color that, uh, black kid dyed...
00:51:12I don't care what it is you're going through, son.
00:51:15Commander Salmon assures me that your problems will not interfere with your job,
00:51:19and that's good enough for me.
00:51:22But I don't think Dr. Salmon...
00:51:24Now wait, wait, wait, wait, Jack, wait.
00:51:27Wait.
00:51:33Look at that.
00:51:38Jack.
00:51:39Yes, sir?
00:51:40I don't care what this gypsy lady told you.
00:51:45Commander Salmon tells me that in, uh,
00:51:49in your case, or let's say that in this case,
00:51:52the existence of a werewolf has not been verified.
00:51:56So how could you be a werewolf?
00:52:00Well, sir...
00:52:01Where's the ball?
00:52:04Where's the damn ball?
00:52:09Sir.
00:52:10Jack, take off your shoes or I'll get in the gutter.
00:52:15Jack, I'm going to let you in on a little secret.
00:52:17Whether you know this or not, but I get frightened too.
00:52:22Come on.
00:52:40I like you, Jack. I really do.
00:52:43You're like the son I never had.
00:52:45I see a lot of myself in you.
00:52:47I do. You go in places, Jack, and I...
00:52:50I like to be part of it.
00:52:52There it is.
00:52:53Coming up, Doctor.
00:52:54President.
00:52:55Tonight.
00:52:56When the moon is full.
00:52:57Oh, Jack.
00:52:58For tonight, when the moon is full.
00:53:00Get a hold of yourself, boy.
00:53:03The moon is full.
00:53:07Hey.
00:53:10I'm just going through a crisis.
00:53:14I know about crisis.
00:53:16You're running for this one, you run the rest of the time.
00:53:22Jack, uh...
00:53:24Where did you go to school?
00:53:26University of Chicago, sir.
00:53:28Did you play any ball there?
00:53:29Oh, just four-wall handball, sir.
00:53:31They didn't have varsity sports.
00:53:33That's right. There's nothing wrong with four-wall handball.
00:53:35Oh, here.
00:53:36Listen, I want you to take a ball.
00:53:37I want you to ball a few plays for me.
00:53:39Go on, take a ball and get over in the alley over there.
00:53:41Just pick it up and step over there, that's it.
00:53:44All right, Jack, I want you to watch this.
00:53:46Watch me, Jack.
00:53:47Yes.
00:53:48Watch me.
00:53:49Here we go.
00:53:57Look at that shot.
00:53:58All right, Jack, you take a shot.
00:53:59Go ahead, go ahead.
00:54:01Your turn.
00:54:02Go ahead.
00:54:03Take a shot.
00:54:07This morning, both the Senate and the committee
00:54:08have the man I want on the Supreme Court.
00:54:10Who do you think I don't care about that, hm?
00:54:12Do you?
00:54:13Take a position, Parson.
00:54:14Go on, get up the line there.
00:54:15That's it.
00:54:19Now, I can assure you I have the top amount of time
00:54:22for testing and soul-searching.
00:54:25I'll strike out at my enemy swiftly and boldly.
00:54:29Maybe even tonight.
00:54:31Hey, boy.
00:54:32Jack.
00:54:33Yes.
00:54:34Throw the ball.
00:54:35No, no, not like that.
00:54:36Get down.
00:54:37Bend your knees.
00:54:38Bend your knees.
00:54:39Bend your knees.
00:54:40Yes.
00:54:41That's it.
00:54:42Now, bring the ball back.
00:54:43Let it sit down there.
00:54:44Let's just get the ball back there.
00:54:45Get your knees down there.
00:54:46Now, when you get the ball back there, just let it whiz.
00:54:48Let it go.
00:54:49OK?
00:54:53You think I run from a battle?
00:54:55I shirk from it.
00:54:59Jack, will you throw the ball?
00:55:00Throw the ball at me.
00:55:01Yes, sir.
00:55:02I would, too.
00:55:04Shoot.
00:55:05Now, I do.
00:55:06Aiming on a sheer recklessness, I'd
00:55:08miss the target completely.
00:55:11Now, son, there's only a few of us left in the boat now.
00:55:15We've got to stick together and reign from one another.
00:55:20I believe in you, Jack.
00:55:22I want you to believe in me.
00:55:26I promise to stand by you in this crisis, Jack,
00:55:29if you promise me that you'll stand by yourself.
00:55:34Jack, will you throw the ball, for Christ's sake?
00:55:37I can't, sir.
00:55:38Well, sure you can, sir.
00:55:39Just throw it.
00:55:40No, I can't.
00:55:41I've been trying to tell you.
00:55:42Jack, what kind of a man are you, anyway?
00:55:43I've been trying to tell you, sir.
00:55:45The first thing that happens, my fingers start to swell
00:55:47before the moon rises.
00:55:48And now, my fingers are stuck in the ball.
00:55:50I can't get it off.
00:55:51Oh, Jack, I have a meeting in the war room.
00:55:53Jack, please.
00:55:54I can't go.
00:55:55Jack, look, Commander Salmon will be there.
00:55:57Everything will be all right.
00:55:58I'm stuck in the ball.
00:56:00Don't make me talk to that ball.
00:56:02It's a ball.
00:56:05Hey, get out of there.
00:56:13Nothing wrong with that ball.
00:56:15Nothing at all.
00:56:17These pilots load up their planes with bombs,
00:56:20fly them anywhere they want,
00:56:22drop them anywhere they want,
00:56:24without any authorization.
00:56:26They're so damn incorrigible.
00:56:29And then it drops in our lap.
00:56:31And we don't even hear about it until we read it in the paper.
00:56:34Well, I'm fed up with being a nice guy.
00:56:39The entire country is talking about sex murders
00:56:42and Walsh and Weird Wolf.
00:56:45This is just what the paper's been waiting for.
00:56:48Did you see this article in this morning's Times?
00:56:51Articles like that are appearing in every newspaper
00:56:54in every city in the country.
00:56:57The networks, they can't even control their own people anymore.
00:57:02That circus of hippies outside the White House
00:57:05is getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
00:57:10Congress is threatening you with impeachment proceedings.
00:57:15I am afraid of complete civil disorder.
00:57:18My recommendation is that we declare martial law,
00:57:22put a curfew on the whole city,
00:57:25and bring the army in on this.
00:57:27The army?
00:57:29I think we should hold off on that.
00:57:34Gentlemen.
00:57:36Gentlemen.
00:57:38I'd like to come directly to the point.
00:57:43I would like to be able to announce
00:57:46the withdrawal of all troops
00:57:49totally and immediately in Southeast Asia.
00:57:52Frankly, I'm afraid of the reaction
00:57:55from the lunatic right.
00:57:59General DeRocha, or excuse me, General,
00:58:02Admiral DeRocha,
00:58:05you are a politically astute tactician,
00:58:08well aware of the tensions on the home front.
00:58:12What can I do to keep down casualties
00:58:15here and abroad while I speed up troops
00:58:18withdrawals?
00:58:20Sir, if we can make just one last quick thrust
00:58:23into his sanctuaries,
00:58:25covered by a reactive protracted reconnaissance,
00:58:29an active radiative reconnaissance.
00:58:32Radiative? What did I miss?
00:58:35Try to stay awake over there, Harry.
00:58:38A protective reactive reconnaissance,
00:58:41an active...
00:58:43Okay, let's do it.
00:58:45Sir, don't you think we should
00:58:47notify Congress?
00:58:49Notify Congress?
00:58:51What do you think, Jack?
00:58:53Jack?
00:58:58Now, goddammit, let's just ignore them.
00:59:03Gentlemen,
00:59:05our credibility is at stake
00:59:08throughout the world.
00:59:13No, I will not be found wanting
00:59:16in this nuclear age.
00:59:23There's one more thing, gentlemen,
00:59:25about our plan to recognize
00:59:28Red China.
00:59:30Oh, Mr. President!
00:59:32Great theater, isn't it?
00:59:43Jack, we can't sit down.
00:59:46Jack.
00:59:51Jack.
00:59:55Jack, what the hell time is it?
01:00:04Jack!
01:00:07I said, Jack!
01:00:10Jack!
01:00:13Gentlemen, will you, uh...
01:00:15please excuse the boy.
01:00:16He hasn't been feeling too well recently.
01:00:25He's, uh,
01:00:27probably gone to the dispensary.
01:00:45Jack!
01:01:15Jack!
01:01:45Jack!
01:02:16Wait, wait.
01:02:18What is...
01:02:19Wait!
01:02:21Wait!
01:02:27What is your name?
01:02:30What?
01:02:32What is your name?
01:02:34You have a name!
01:02:37What is your name?
01:02:40Tell me your name!
01:02:46What...
01:02:49is your name?
01:03:10Are you real?
01:03:15Are you really real?
01:03:39Are you real?
01:03:41Are you real?
01:03:43Are you real?
01:03:45Are you real?
01:03:47Are you real?
01:03:49Are you real?
01:03:51Are you real?
01:03:53Are you real?
01:03:55Are you real?
01:03:57Are you real?
01:03:59Are you real?
01:04:01Are you real?
01:04:03Are you real?
01:04:05Are you real?
01:04:07Are you real?
01:04:09My name is Whittier, I called earlier about some silver bullets.
01:04:39No, I want them, with powder, and tonight.
01:04:44All right, five hundred dollars, I don't care.
01:04:48No, they don't have to be ballistically perfect.
01:04:51Well, can you make one by tonight?
01:04:55All right, then send me one.
01:05:09Bullets won't stop it, maybe we can get it with a tank or a flamethrower.
01:05:27I don't want him destroyed under any circumstances.
01:05:30Don't you realize how important it is to our programs?
01:05:34You must issue the order that it be taken alive.
01:05:39It's interesting, Dr. Kiss, about the programs.
01:05:43Just what in the hell are our scientific programs?
01:05:48I haven't any more time for this.
01:05:50I have my own work to tend to.
01:05:52Well, it's pretty much the law.
01:05:56Word leaks out that there's a werewolf running around and we can't kill it.
01:06:00Well, just don't let it.
01:06:03Only you and I have seen this.
01:06:05Just keep all the people off the streets tonight and we'll handle it.
01:06:08I don't know about that.
01:06:09I mean, I'm up to my neck in this Asian policy stuff,
01:06:14and then there's two students out in Ohio.
01:06:17I respectfully submit, sir, that that is your problem.
01:06:33Oh, uh, Dr. Kiss?
01:06:38Dr. Kiss?
01:06:41Dr. Kiss, what do you think of my Southeast Asian policy?
01:06:46Dr. Kiss?
01:06:49Oh.
01:07:09Okay.
01:07:11Mrs. Captree.
01:07:13The publisher.
01:07:15The black kid.
01:07:17The guard at the Pentagon last night.
01:07:20And this is the same shape as the scar on my shoulder.
01:07:23With just one knife.
01:07:26To fill in the shape of the five-pointed star.
01:07:33Another murder tonight.
01:07:36At Watergate.
01:07:38My apartment.
01:07:41And there's no doubt about it, the shoes we found at the Pentagon are his.
01:07:47And the shirt.
01:07:50And the shirt.
01:07:52If I can just catch a plane tomorrow,
01:07:56I'll have the full month to find that old gypsy woman before the full moon rises again.
01:08:03Doctor, I know you can find a way to tell the President
01:08:06so that there won't be a search for me tonight or an investigation.
01:08:13But you have to lock me up tonight.
01:08:16All right.
01:08:17I'm convinced.
01:08:19We'll lock you up.
01:08:21We can't let the press know about this.
01:08:23We can't let anybody know about it.
01:08:25Yeah.
01:08:26There's no doubt the press would seize on your personal tragedy to discredit the President.
01:08:32Well, frankly, I don't even want them to know.
01:08:34He's got enough on his mind already.
01:08:38Jack.
01:08:41I'm sorry about this.
01:08:47Could you tell...
01:08:50Marion?
01:08:52All right, I'll tell her.
01:08:57I even think I might be able to get some rest tonight knowing I'm chained up.
01:09:02Let's go.
01:09:18What's that?
01:09:21It's a time-lapse camera, Jack.
01:09:24Presumably it'll go on during the transformation.
01:09:29If you are what you say you are, we owe it to science to make a record of it.
01:09:36Oh, and the President wants a copy for his new library.
01:09:40Oh, Captain Salmon, would you turn on the television for me?
01:09:43I'd like to watch the President's address tonight.
01:09:51Still angry over the...
01:09:53I'll be back after the address is over.
01:09:59I can't believe I have to go through another night of this agony.
01:10:05Captain Salmon.
01:10:07You see that cane?
01:10:09The cane right by the television set?
01:10:11Pick it up!
01:10:13Pick it up!
01:10:15Hit me with it!
01:10:17Hit me with it!
01:10:18On the head!
01:10:19Kill me!
01:10:21I'm just a violent beast and I'm better off dead!
01:10:24I'm better off dead!
01:10:26I'm better off dead!
01:10:27Kill me, will you?
01:10:28Pull yourself together, Jack!
01:10:30There's nothing to whimper about.
01:10:34I guess this station will do.
01:10:36He's going to be on all the stations.
01:10:40All right, Jack.
01:10:42I'll be back after the address.
01:11:12Oh, my God.
01:11:31Who did this to you, Jack?
01:11:33No one did anything to me, Marion.
01:11:36Will you get out of here?
01:11:38Are you insane?
01:11:39Who did this to you?
01:11:41Marion, will you leave my chains alone?
01:11:43Did you do this to yourself?
01:11:45Just leave them alone, Marion.

01:11:57It's not nonsense, Marion.
01:11:59Please.
01:12:00Will you leave before anything happens to you?
01:12:03No, I'm not going to leave.
01:12:05Of course not.
01:12:06In fact, I'm spending the night here.
01:12:07What?
01:12:08So that you can see this is all in your mind.
01:12:10Oh, Marion, get the hell out of here!
01:12:12Don't worry.
01:12:13I'll leave your chains on.
01:12:15What's that?
01:12:20Marion, just next to the TV, there's a gun there.
01:12:23You see it?
01:12:25All right, it's loaded.
01:12:27Now, if anything happens to me, if I change,
01:12:32that's the only thing that can keep me
01:12:34from killing someone else.
01:12:38Oh, Jack, stop it.
01:12:40Marion, if you insist on staying here,
01:12:42you can at least do that for me.
01:12:44Keep it with you at all times.
01:12:46You can do that for me, can't you, Marion?
01:12:48You can at least do that!

01:13:43but it's just that the press secretary is ill,
01:13:46and I need you there.
01:13:48I guess it's my most important address ever.
01:13:51I'm announcing an arms limitation agreement
01:13:54with the Chinese foreign minister,
01:13:56and I just don't want the public to think
01:13:59that it's a cover for the curfew
01:14:01I'm imposing upon Washington tonight.
01:14:05I just don't want to sound like a little boy who cried wolf.
01:14:09You know what I mean, Jack?
01:14:12What?
01:14:14Jack, I'm sorry.
01:14:15I'm going to have to insist.

01:15:01our nation's television broadcasting
01:15:03for an unannounced press conference.
01:15:07Isn't that right, Jack?
01:15:09I understand it comes at a very good time.
01:15:12Is it true that everybody in Washington
01:15:14is afraid of a world war?
01:15:17Where are you from?
01:15:18No, no.
01:15:19I haven't heard that story.
01:15:21Oh, is that so?
01:15:32I read a report of it in one of the Hanoi papers.
01:15:36It sounded like a case of mass hysteria.
01:15:41Well, it sounds like an amusing report,
01:15:43Mr. Prime Minister.
01:15:45Jack, would you look into that?
01:15:47Jack.

01:16:44and then that'll raise a certain amount of speculation,
01:16:47Mr. Prime Minister,
01:16:48and then I'll come on,
01:16:50and that'll give the people what they've been waiting for.

01:26:33Oh!
01:26:43My fellow Americans, this is your President speaking to you from the White House.
01:26:51First, I want to thank you for your letters and telegrams
01:26:56offering me your best wishes during my recent illness.
01:27:02Secondly, I know I can count on your support
01:27:06as I lash out against the enemies of America,
01:27:10both in the press as well as the Senate,
01:27:14Republicans as well as Democrats,
01:27:17white as well as black,
01:27:20who have circulated the vicious rumors
01:27:23holding members of my administration responsible
01:27:27for the recent and tragic deaths of just a few of my political opponents.
01:27:35At night, I roam the silent, empty corridors of this great house
01:27:43wrestling with my conscience,
01:27:47and I've come to this conclusion.
01:27:51If I'm to prevent our enemies from destroying not just America,
01:27:59if I'm to prevent our enemies from destroying not me,
01:28:06but the very office of the presidency,
01:28:10I must have your support.
